I just bought the V3 with the 48v p/s direct from Fosi for $88. It arrived in 7 days. I also picked up the Fosi P1 for $40 and it improved the overall sound signature when used together.

Great video. Thanks. I have 3- Fosi P3's in 3 different setups used as a Preamp. It greatly improved the sound clarity and spacial separation of instruments with a nice warm bass sound. I run the Fosi and amps basically flat and all 3 setups sound great. I have the V3 on the way with the 48 Volt AC power adapter. I'm taking the Sony Receiver out of the equation and replacing it withthe V3 going into the Fosi P3 Preamp. Can't wait to hear it.

I spent 2023 rolling op amps. Didn't know this was a thing until I watched you, thanks, I settled on a 49860. The 49720 was a little fatiguing after a while. I don't have money for the staccado or sparkos. I'm told renovating my house is more important, lol.

I just found that it was more trouble to swap them than the differences they made.. LOL, But it is fun. If you like to tinker, it can be fun for sure. :)

    A couple of things ...
    1) Power by measurement
    On the 32volt supply ... 55w/ch on 8 ohms, 100w/ch on 4 ohms, less than 0.1% distortion.
    On the 48 volt supply ... 105w/ch on 8 ohms, 210w/ch on 4 ohms, about 0.1% distortion.
The distortion at lower levels is beneath the 0.05% threshold of my equipment.
    2) Difference between 32 and 48 volt supply
Don't expect some magical transformation. If you take the v3 (or any other TPA3255 based amplifier) and get a listening level without clipping on the 32 volt supply then without changing anything else you plug in the 48 volt supply it is unlikely you will hear any difference. The TPA3255 chip is fixed gain so all the 48 volt supply really gives you is an extra 3db of headroom.
    3) Yes the case runs warm.
It's part of the main chip's heat sink. It runs much cooler on the 32 volt supply.
    4) You will never get 300w/ch out of the V3.
Fosi like all the others latched onto a big number from the spec sheets. Problem is that's the Absolute Maximum power rating at more than 10% distortion. The TPA3255 will give you a short burst of 300w/ch ... once.
The TPA3255 chip was originally developed for public address and sound reinforcement in powered speakers. It is also used in studio monitors and high end AV equipment. It is a very capable chip when fully and correctly implemented. Most of these "china-amps" give you like 90% of the chip's performance, which for most people is more than enough.

Funny how ALTRUISM can be an HYPER EFFECTIVE subscribing incentive ( not saying this sarcastically or cynically btw ) First time watching this channel, but i'm considering buying a V3 so i forage through TH-cam reviews... The MOMENT i heard 'We're the only non-profit...we donated..." i literally JUMPED on the 'subscribe' and 'like' buttons right there and then even before i finished the vid, lol Your review was very helpful, THANK YOU for your altruistic work !!

Its very good but not as good as a good class AB amp in my experience.

    • @abxaudiophiles
      @abxaudiophiles  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

That’s a very general statement overall as all class AB amps even sound different. I’ve head class AB that don’t sound as good as the V3 and I’ve heard class AB that destroys it. And over years Class D that destroys $5,000 class AB amps. The V3 is a good budget option in the price point. But it’s not a GREAT amp.

Does the Fosi v3 has better components under the shell than their upgraded versions viz BT20A Pro and BT30D Pro ?

The problem is that nobody that measured the amp really show where the weekness is.
    Not even ASR..
There is one TH-cam channel that put the amplifier on a Dyno and measured certified and uncertified at 4 and 8 ohm power and so on (into clipping and distortion threshold).
Then we have also all the measurements from Amir at ASR..
But one guy showed that in measuring with a measuring microphone and REW where this v3 amp started to sag and drop in power in the lower frequencies..
Yeah, that is cool and maybe somewhat normal..
But he measured a Yamaha that did NOT sag and lost steam at the lower frequencies when it were pushed..
So as I were thinking about to use it together with passive subwoofers than just exactly that is probably VERY important.. when I don't care about the power at 1 kHz.. I am interested in the power at 0 to 100 Hz.. that is what I will be using.
In short.. to measure power at 1 kHz is a walk in the park and don't revile this information.
A complement measurement should maybe measure the power at 20 Hz also!
So we could get a relationship metric for power at 1 kHz and 20 Hz. That should be around 1.
Example: watts at 20 Hz divided by watts at 1 kHz. If they are equal then we get 1.
And depending on how much the power sags at 20 Hz so the relationship will fall under 1..
That will revile how the amplifier is able to deliver the necessary amount of voltage and current that is needed.
Then if Amir do something like that he could put that quotient as comparison with other amplifiers.
That will be helpful for knowing how linear the output is across the frequency when juice is needed.
But not all 2ch HiFi lovers has a true full frequency reproduction when many of them has ordernary speakers that role of long before 20 Hz. So they will not be affected or notice any issues at all. 😢 (until they maybe switch speakers or drive subwoofers)
But a amplifier should "easily" cover and being "equally linear" (DEPENDING on its voicing) in the hearing frequency range.☺️

FOSi's power rating are nonsense. Momentary power, or power measured at 1khz (only) at 10%. THD isn't real world. The true measure should be 20hz-20khz, both channels driven at 1% or less THD. In truth, the FOSi is likely a real-world 30wpc as measured correctly. It is most certainly, not a clean 150+ wpc. Look at how robustly built a Crown or Class d audio mini gan amp is made. Big difference in power supply and capacitance.

    • @AmazonasBiotop
      @AmazonasBiotop ปีที่แล้ว

@@scottlowell493 That is NOT what was my concern that I brought up here.
The issue is that EVERYBODY measure at 1000 Hz. And at some level of distortion.
I don't talk about if X watts is legit or nonsense or whatever, that is another discussion.
      Let us go forward.
What I am addressing is another way of measure that revile something else.
If the amp can deliver X watts at 1000 Hz but it can at the same circumstances ohm and distortion only deliver a fraction of that at 20 Hz..
That will revile that there is some issues somewhere and it will not perform equally in frequency response at it max output as it does at lower loudness levels.

    • @WeebLabs

I am familiar with that video. He failed to consider the sensitivity and impedance curve of each speaker when performing his comparison and clipped the amplifier. There were no real controls in place and there is nothing wrong with the amplifier. The included 32V power supply will clip the output above 34W into 8 Ohms. In order to achieve rated power, a 48V or 52V power supply is required.
