The view which the Chinese guy is actually quite common amongst many Singaporeans, it's just that they don't show it openly. Is it me or does it feel like Yeolo was talking faster than usual towards the end of the video?
    Still enjoyed the video 😊
On another note. I couldn’t even watch the original video the first time. After less than a minute in, I had to stop. It was so hard to continue watching. I skipped to different bits to see what they would be saying. It was hard for me because I’m a Chinese girl dating an Indian guy. What’s even worse, is that my mom is the one saying all the bad stereotypes of my boyfriend when she first found out about us. Imagine your own mom saying these sort of racist things, like Indian not treating women right. Not exactly the same situation. But the pain is still there. I can only imagine the pain this couple was going through.

But luckily for Dave and Jacqueline, their parents sealed their relationship with blessings. So they have got strong support from the beginning. What worries me is this lecturer thinking that one's race should not be polluted with another race to preserve the Chinese blood. It is a very backward thinking. He even speak like Adolf Hitler! When I first introduced my indian husband to my extended family, my aunty started saying the exact same things that I'm a disgrace, he will leave me soon after marriage to go back to india, he will be disloyal. It was so ridiculous because she said all these hateful and hurtful words during the family gathering, right in front of him, in chinese. It was sooooo disrespectful. I had to call her out and confront the racist and hateful comments there and then. It was awkward and painful. Educating racists is hard and all we can do is to soldier on, remain hopeful, and live our best lives! focus on those people who have embraced ur inter racial r/s. :)

Ppl make fun of performative activism and reposting but when when it comes to racism, I think ppl are forgetting one aspect where social media comes into play, which is education. Racism in Singapore has always been somewhat of a grey area as ppl find it so hard to come to a definitive concludion(mainly due to the fact that we choose to ignore minority voices). Personally for me, I grew up around adults who were constantly making racist remarks and jokes and as a brainless child, I didn't have a filter for all these terrible things ive heard from ADULTS. I only found out about right and wrong thru social media. And I think that rising cases of racists are helpful in bringing up conversation and deabte. We can't pretend to just live in the Utopia where there is no hate

Similar incidents happened to me when I was dating Chinese girls in the past. Even though I am not with a Chinese girl now, many Chinese people come up to me and start talking about incidents where Indians are involved. Delta virus, tekka market closure, etc. One thing I have learned is that these people won't accept their mistakes and do not want to change. They have confirmed it in their heads that they are right and will verbally attack anyone who is anything other than Chinese. It is about time they got caught and I applaud the action of the couple. Kudos to the both of them. Lastly, love is meant to be blind. It does not see color. It does not see anything at all. Perhaps, these race warriors should just keep their mouths shut because there is no room for racism here and their delusional one sided opinions are what we care about the least.

I think the lecturer is just like on the borderline or even beyond worried for his:
    1) love life because he may have experienced something similar...like when he was younger his own Chinese gf left him for an Indian man (for whatever reason) which made him the way he is today. Idk just a hypothesis because there has got to be what made him the way he is. Thus he feels at a disadvantage and may have form the perceived conclusion that this is similar for many Chinese men thus they are at a disadvantage and the 'Indian men are predators towards young Chinese women' in his own words. The racist remark aside, does this view have any merit to it in terms of Chinese men having disadvantage in love lives because there are limited Chinese females for them/to their taste (should they prefer only Chinese women based on their reasons)? Up to you to decide.
    2) He is speaking of the race/ethnicity concept and like it should not be disturb or 'corrupted' via interethnicity couples from his point of view. To him, this may dilute the aspects of a race and may dissolve the essence of a particular race altogether if many are contributing to inter-racial relationships. In his eyes, if there is an Indian-Chinese, it may 'dilute' the Chinese race and make it not pure and authentic anymore. In his eyes, if a person is Indian-Chinese, he/she may not fully follow the ways of any singular race aka Chinese race thus 'corrupting it'. He may be viewing race as a box/compartments. To him, disturb the box is like disturbing the core structural integrity of a race itself. But the way he said it as a racist remark certainly does not do justice. Nonetheless, is he right in long run (corrupting a race) or not (enhancing a race)? Up to you to decide.
Still, to call out a random stranger couple out on public like that is uncalled for and disrespectful. If he wanted to address this interacial marriage, he could have just write a Journal Artical Thesis about it and not verbally harassing people on the streets. Simple problem solve. Overall, the chinese man should have known better and could have conducted the situation better.

    • @embershen364

I am extremely glad on action of the government. This man must be terminated from his job because he harassed a Muslim student in class. The student most definitely suffered going to his class. I come from mixed parentage and they had a great marriage with respect and dignity for each other. The lecture had the audacity to speak in such a demeaning manner to Dave on race , and the student on Islam. No religion or race is superior to any other religion or race. Respect goes a long way. This incident should be nipped in the bud, so that these occurrences will not happen

Everything come from rapid growth. Educations , Dominations , Power , Social Status.......... things will never roll back whereby everyone live in harmony. You don't even need to lock your door when you go out. What is really on this guy mind ? Perhaps his upbringing. Respect is mutual. Everyone have their choices. To question another on interracial matter does not make him a hero. Locally we will say , "seow ah" or crazy. We are a very small nation. Let's make an effort to live happily together :) Oh btw , most of you must have come across someone who will say "I am not a racist" and one fine day the same guy say "Aiyah , people from this R___ always like that." Typical self ignorance or self denial character." Be care what you say next time.......bye

I’m sorry but not even Yeolo can turn the video funny with his commentary. This is too much. And the fact that someone like that walking around with such thoughts and have the audacity to confront the interracial couple…. I feel bad for the society. Dave, you show who’s the bigger man. Proud of you!

The saddest thing (or maybe scariest) is that there are many others who share the same thoughts as Mr Tan but just do not vocalise it, displaying it in other ways.

Also, this has technically to do with nationalism because race and religion is the nation's matters lmao wtf

Male versions of Karens should be known as Rogers, as the name Karen was derived because it was a common name that was given to the girls born in the 80s, and coincidentally, Roger was the most common name for the male babies in the 80s, though this was the statistics in US where the first Karens emerged.

I don't understand ppl who say "it's not like it's very important issue".... Miss girl. If you get a cut on your finger, its not gonna kill you. But it still stings rite? U will still put a plaster rite? We are a first world country, it's not like we have other pressing issues to worry about. So why not worry about an issue that affecting a specific group of ppl in our society?

To be honest, in recent years I found that there’s many foreigners here and Singaporeans alike who share the same thoughts on race intolerance like that male Karen. It’s sad but we definitely have more to educate our young kids on these racism issues and teach them racial harmony!
