As many others will point out, the original video will drag the tears out of you. I have always loved it.
It also has the choir you want. Including a children's choir.
Absolutely agree! The original video deliver the message much stronger. I love that video and it gets to me every time I listen AND watch it.
It's hard to read this,, all the tears in my eyes
I agree....I dont know why she never watches the official videos which are usually much better than these live performances!!
Yes! It will really take you to church!
The original video is a must watch for this song.
Watch the original music video, it's touching, and it talks to your vision of a soundtrack.
One of the most emotional, and meaningful, songs ever written. Paul Carrack's voice is perfect for it.
Lead singer is Paul carrick, Mike is Mike Rutherford who was in genisis. If you watch official video there is a choir it’s even more emotional x
Was he in Genesis from The Beginning?
@@Isleofskye Yes
Two choirs, the children's and adults mirroring the theme of the song.
The original music video will make you cry. These lyrics bring forth stronger emotions there than on the live version.
It wouldn't matter. She's showing the video so transparently I can't even see it. Ridiculous.
Paul Carrack is the singer and keyboard player. Mike Rutherford, originally from Genesis, is the guitarist. Carrack has one of the great voices in rock, and has sung hits for other groups like Ace and Squeeze, as well as his own band. He's currently juggling between his solo band and being one of Eric Clapton's keyboard player. The first time I heard him play live, I likened his impact to Ray Charles.
Carrack always reminds me of Michael McDonald too.
You have to see the original video, he does have a young boy choir and later joining the adult choir. The visual adds a little more to the emotions to the words.
🇨🇦 Every time I hear this song, I am reminded of my Father ! Luckily, I was there when he passed !
Beautiful song, Paul Carrick has a magnificent voice. Mike is Mike Rutherford original guitarist in Genesis. Since you recognized the need of the choir, the original is done with a kids choir and it is fantastic.
There's a kids choir, AND a choir of older adults. It fits the theme of the song so well.
My congrats to you. Never got over this song without tears in my eyes. And, the hell , I'm 50 years old. And my parents are luckaly still alive.
The official video for this song does have a choir behind the band singing. Great song.
this song can make you cry if your mood is in the right place.
and you watch the official video.
You say you feel the “church”, give the original version, with an actual choir, a listen. It'll move you! Spiritually and emotionally. It does me every time I hear it, and I'm pretty much a rock, I'm not easily moved.
If you watch the original video, there is a choir and the video gives you a visual perspective with what he’s saying.
Every time I hear this song, tears well in my eyes.
Oh yes !!!!do listen to the original music video, you'll truly enjoy it!! Love you're reaction.
You picked the wrong video you need the one with the full out choirs, chilling!
Yes the video brings it home.
You can't get thru it without tears
Beyond Beautiful ❤️🔥 never give up and never give in 🙏
8:21 Mike (Mike Rutherford) writes the songs and plays the bass. The singer here is Paul Carrack who has a long history as a talented vocalist. You may have heard him sing "How Long Has This Been Going On" when he was with the group Ace, or maybe "Tempted" when he was with the group Squeeze. The BBC dubbed Carrack as "The Man with the Golden Voice". This song reminds me of my father who passed away when I lived about 45 minutes away. Upon hearing the news of his passing, I jumped into my truck and made a beeline to my parents house where I got to spend some time sitting beside his lifeless body before the funeral parlor arrived to retrieve it. I had my final talk with him during that short time. Peace.🕊
Great reaction but you should watch the original music video, there is indeed a choir, very emotional
35 years later and my eyes still get all weird as soon as that organ comes in. This is one of those songs whose lyrics should be read and considered every morning until they're part of you.
Sometimes certain songs become the sound track of your life . This is one for me. The year it came out my father was dying and my son was born . Very meaningful for me
@T.elegram-me-Britt_Reacts sorry I can't do telegraph , invalid telephone number
This is a fantastic, timeless song..
It always gets me.
He often performs live with Eric Clapton now playing the Hammond organ and keyboards and singing. Very under rated musician..
You should check out some of the live performances with them both together if you find any from more recently 🏴🇬🇧
There's a choir in the original video. He's singing about his personal experience.
Might remind you of soundtracks because of all the Phil Collins songs, Mike Rutherford was his band mate in Genesis. Paul Carrack does the vocals here. Enjoyed the live version but the original video is the MUST watch. The video gives the background story and you get not one but two choirs (two generations). Enjoy!
Paul Carrack, the vocalist, is an songwriter & artist in his own right. I recommend his “Eyes of Blue”, I think you’ll love it.
The original video has the choir in it. There is a boys choir and an adult choir and they sound really good. Watch the video and you will be moved to tears.
Well, you want a choir? Check out the official video and there is a boys choir and a mixed adult choir behind him in the original studio version......you were so right!
This is an amazing song from a beautiful video of theirs, you just have to see it!!! xx
It also has 2 different choirs, children and adults, adds so much depth. Also, the video images are perfect for the song.
Yep, yep , yep. Lost my dad at 50. Really want to talk to him. This kills me.
The spirit of the song " You are gorgeous 😮"
This is a great version - as others have pointed out watch the official video and you get the choir backing them up.
There’s a message in there somewhere! An old song, but a good one, always brings a tear to my eye.
Paul is often referred to as the man with the golden voice. He's a bit of a legend in the music industry.
BTW, Mike is the lead guitarist who was in Gensis with Phil Collins and the singer is Paul Carrack (of many other band memberships)
Mike is the guitarist (Mike Rutherford from Genesis), the guy singing is Paul Carrack I believe.
So glad you like this! so much truth in this song! My dad passed and I never got to say goodbye.
The actual video has a Choir in it. The music video will rip your heart out!!! Probably one of the best videos ever!!!
Beautiful song!! I have always loved this!! 😅
Lead singer is Paul Carrack. He teamed up with the guys from Genesis without Phil CollIns. He also sang with the band SQUEEZE!
There is a cover of this song by the Issac’s you need to hear , they are a family band that have won several awards. It would be worth a listen .
Chokes me up every single time. Truly.
Just like to give props to the writer of this song, a Scottish singer called B.A. Robertson, he had several hits in the late 70's and early 80's and has written songs for TV, Film, and many other artists, including some of Cliff Richard's biggest 80's hits ' Carrie', 'Wired for sound', he wrote 'The Living Years' after his father died just 12 weeks before the birth of his son.
Mike Rutherford was the co writer.
my DAD wanted this played at his Funneral MISS YOU BUDDY
If memory serves there is a choir in the official video version
When the music, lyrics, message, and vocals all are top notch 🤌💋
There WAS A CHOIR and a Graveyard and the image of the leader of the Group(not the singer) MIKE Rutherford with a Boy, who was either his Son or acting the part and there were different elements and Groups singing in the Choirs and all that imagery, which really brought home the message, was on THe OFFICIAL VIDEO that everyone reacts to but all missed here.
When you get 4 minutes, please, watch the accompanying video to really bring home the message of this song.
Thank you Britt. I needed to hear this today. Everything about this song, the lyrics and everything you talked about in this video brought back a lot of memories and feelings. Really hit home 💖💖
one of my faves! the Glee version is so good, as well!
Big fan, only recently discovered your channel a few months ago. Can't believe you've already chose this song - one of the most profound lyrics of all time Britt! - from a man across the big pond where this band came from xx
The studio version has a choir
There are 2 choirs in the official video, the beginning it a children’s choir that morphs into the adult choir, that video will make you cry
The official video will have you tearing up it is a great song
Another great tune by the singer & his other band Squeeze,"Tempted"
Been waiting on this from you, Britt! 😊❤The official video would’ve been awesome. AND THE CHOIR IS THERE ❤😊😊
It was ALL in that fantastic video.
That's actually Paul singing. Mike was the leader of the band, played guitar and used to be a member of Genesis. But yeah he can sang this song. It brings me to tears.
This was THE song back in the day! I actually won this album from a call in radio contest!
There are TWO choirs in the official music video.
Loved this song forever! Hey, Girl you've got a petty good set of pipes on you! You should record this! I'd love to hear it!
If you want a choir, you should watch the vidio for the song, it has two choirs and film footage that relates to the songs lyrics.
Thanks so much for this video. This song always makes me cry. Paul Carrack is one of the truly great singers of our era. As stated below, there is a choir in the original video. You called it Britt. Try reacting to "How Long Has This Been Going On" by Ace, with Paul as lead singer. He wrote the song.
Music and lyrics by Michael Rutherford (Mike). Since 1969, Michael was the founding member, bassist, songwriter of the legendary prog rock band Genesis, who performed their last concert a couple years ago, due to the poor health of Phil Collins, drummer and then lead singer (after Peter Gabriel left in 1975).
Mike Rutherford from Genesis has written amazing music and lyrics for decades. Add those songs to the voice of Paul Carrack and you have gems like this one, moving , memorable and timeless...Good pick!
What a wonderful band underrated for sure always a pleasure have yourself a beautiful day 🎉
This is one of those where the original/studio version is the one to react to.
There’s another version that has a choir and all that
Mike Rutherford is the guitarist - he wrote the song. Used to be in Genesis
You nailed it Brit. The original video has a choir and it is so much more emotional
In the official music video there are two choirs, one children's and one adult's mirroring the theme of generational and emotional gaps in the relationship between the father and son that the lyrics are about.
Mike started this group after years with Phil Collins. Bringing Paul in was genius. This is why the song is so popular and strong. You are so cute by the way😊
Britt, great timing. My father died 15 years ago. My father-in-law passed last Friday. He was like a father to me for 44 years because he lived blocks away versus states away with my Dad. I was close to them both, but there is always more to say. I encourage everyone to make it a point to write things down in the present, good or not, to let them know they are appreciated while alive and/or air out differences, to mend fences in order to enjoy the bonds that can and should be. Thank you again, Britt. I've enjoyed this song for many, many years.
My Father died 52 years ago in London and I still miss him. My Mum 27 years ago,as wel.
I knew you'd love this one! Incredible song, and an anthem when it came out. So full of pathos and hope. A timeless song.
The "Mike" was Mike Rutherford, the guitar player. He used used to be in the band Genesis. Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins also started in Genesis.
Moral of story, hug and TELL the people you love that you actually love them! There’s no reason not to. ❤️
I also agree with you about our loved ones passing and sending us new hope
I agree, this had to have been used in a movie somewhere.
Britt the original video of this song did have a choir in it.. soooo good . Take care girl keep on rockin
The video had two choirs; one of kids and one of adults as if they were talking to each other.
If you watched the music video you would see there is in fact TWO choirs.
The Choir is in the original video 😊. Love Paul's voice....he has been in Squeeze, Ace, Mike and The Mechanics and a solo artist.
The original video Has a choir of boys!
Had this played at my father’s funeral…he and I struggled with our relationship! He was a good man but we didn’t see eye to eye!!!
From wiki "The song addresses a son's regret over unresolved conflict with his now-deceased father. The song was inspired by Mike Rutherford and B.A. Robertson realizing their fathers had died around the same time, and they later learned singer Paul Carrack's father had died when he was young, as well. Rutherford said:
Being of similar age, we both came from an era where our parents had lived through two world wars, when young men wanted to be like their fathers - wear the same clothes, do the same things. But then there was a huge change and our generation wanted to be anything but their fathers. It wasn't our parents' fault, there was just a big social change. Pop music had come along, The Beatles, denim trousers... for the first time, teens had their own culture. That's how our generation couldn't really talk to our parents in the same way.
So we had the idea of writing a song about how you never really talk to your father, and you miss out on these things."
It's funny you mention Disney sound-tracks.Mike's "other" lead singer,Phil Collins of Genesis, did a few of them.
Everytime I hear this I get a tear in my eye very relatable...😢
this song is so special to me, and your smile could light a million candles!, thanks for reviewing this, big love to all people :)
A great song that I had forgotten about. Thanks for bringing it back to my attention! I'm sure I'll be humming this the rest of the day. :-)
The original studio version and video does have a full choir (actually 2 choirs). Oddly enough the “Mike” in Mike and the Mechanics isn’t the lead singer but actually the guitarist Mike Rutherford…who is also in a other little band called Genesis.
Kind suggestion: "Humble and Kind" by Tim McGraw another great message song.
As always great reaction. Your baby is being exposed to some great music!!
The incomparable Paul Carrack on lead vocal. He's had massive hits in three different bands as well as solo.
Ace....How Long
Squeeze .... Tempted
Solo....Shed a Tear, Eyes of Blue.
The original video has two choirs. One adults the other kids.
The official video for this song does have a choir made up of middle aged ladies and guys, which I always thought was so cool bearing in mind the message of the song. Again Britt, a lovely reaction (but please do watch the official video too) 🙋♂ ❤ 🙋♂ ❤
Always liked this song, but I never truly got it until I became a father.
He's got just a hint of Michael MacDonald in his voice. This song also has a strong "We Are the World" vibe.
The song is written by band leader/founder Mike Rutherford but the singer here is Paul Carrack. He often performs this song live as a solo artist. It wasn't hard for him to emotionally relate to the lyrics since he lost his own father due to own work accident when he was only 11 years old. This song is timeless for sure. Funny you mentioning a choir when Paul has performed this song solo he has used a choir! If you wanna check out this song with a gospel choir search for Paul Carrack and London Communtiy Gospel Choir.
I enjoyed this as much as you did. A different rendition from his original 'official' version that is so popular, but I liked watching you enjoy this.
Do the Music Video version...very Powerful/Emotional
This song always gets me... reminds me of my Father....ugh🙌
The official video is GORGEOUS.
ahhhhh.....the feels
