Independent? Isn't the PAC still looking for their 8th member right now? I'd like to think that they would join the new-look PAC before they chose to go independent. They probably wouldn't mind playing against Fresno St and Boise St every year, plus there is the battle of the brothers with Utah St. The PAC would be a much better fit culturally and geographically, too. The money would fall off, but it would still be better than going independent.
I think a lot of people really fail to understand that "we don't want to be in this conference" isn't saying the Big12 is garbage, it's saying that we loved the Pac-12 and were happy with the situation. Being mad at us and kicking a team while they're down doesn't make you cool or unique. If you want to be mad at people, go be mad at Oklahoma and Texas, who not only routinely whooped your teams ass for decades but then abandoned you and started this bullshit chain of realignment. And fuck USC and UCLA while we're at it, too.

The best they could do was try to keep up and independence was better than staying in the MWC. Leaving a power conference to go independent if you're not named Notre Dame is insane.
