Ha, that’s cool! Well that sounds accurate; I do a lot of traveling in my free time, and I’m the type of person who needs to stop every 30 minutes / 1 hour to use the bathroom 😂 so it was probably me!
2:44 the Denny’s as my knowledge, did open some time around 1975, and the motel opened sometime in the late 80s. I know this becuase my mom used to go to this dennys and motel when she was younger. Rip these two buildings tho.
Been to that Dennys when I was a kid. Other than the mall once in a blue moon I haven’t been up to that part of Danvers in a hot minute until yesterday. Always used to hear about trouble happening there especially when it was still a Days Inn.
Sad to see the Dennis like that. I used to take my son there every Saturday. The location close because the owner wouldn't fix anything and it just needed to many repairs. Much love to the workers there they were cool people.
Man looking inside that dennys at the counter brought me back. Finally demolished after all those years lol. Probably another big condo complex going there I bet.
Thompson's nursery was located on the property prior to it being turned into a motel. The entire area was a farm up until the early 70's when the Liberty Tree mall was built.
In the early 1980s I drove from the Boston area to Harrisburg PA for the first time. I was famished and looked to get a meal prior to my hotel check in. The joint I ended up in was designed to look very similar to a Denny's, so much so that I assumed it was done on purpose. Not too long after that I saw "Coming to America" where John Amos had a role as the proprietor of a look a like MacDonald's, very close to an exact replica. It was named McDowells. I do not recall the name of the Denny's duplicate I ate at, but I think it was similar sounding to Denny's.
Really great exploration on abandoned motel and a former Denny's. I explored an abandoned Kmart on the inside and it totally reminds me of the abandoned Denny's you got into. Awesome video and you've earned a sub 👊😎
Thanks so much! I’ve always wanted to explore an abandoned Kmart! There used to be one not too far from me, but they recently removed it… I would’ve loved to venture inside!

Fun fact Danvers is actually the footprint of the old Salem, way back in 1692. The book Witches by Stacy Schiff who won the Pulitzer for her Cleopatra text covers all this very extensively.
This property was originally a Koala Inn before it was a Day's Inn. The notice that you found on the door is a standard notice required by law in most states for hotels and motels. It lists the state laws pertinent to the operation of the hotel. These are not the "hotel's rules". The room rates listed are the maximum rates allowed for that room. They would only come into play during special events. The "collapsed wall" (railing) on the building was not collapsed but likely taken out to facilitate the positioning of a dumpster to push the rubble from the clearing of the rooms prior to demolition.
I stayed there. I was either 06 or 08 after a concert. We were too tired to drive home and we stayed there and we ate Denny’s when we woke up in the morning.
The prices shown on the card on the door are the maximum they were allowed to charge, there were probably very few days you would pay $200 for a room. Many states require the maximum room charge to be listed to prevent price gouging. From my experience the ultimate low rent lodging is Motel 6, but they do leave the light on if there are still rooms available.
Yes, Tewksbury Hospital is still standing, but it’s actually still an active medical institution today! Not much is abandoned, most buildings are still active. However, I recently did a video exploring the old cemetery there!
The MO in Motel refers to MOtor hotel, MOtor inn or MOtor lodge. They were designed for motorists, usually having each room entered directly from the parking area for motor vehicles rather than through a central lobby. They started in the 1920's and grew in popularity as more people became car owners, and were a smart solution for traveling salesmen and middle class families on road trips. In the late 20th Century, both motels and hotels made a lot of money from municipalities looking to housed their homeless population, especially families with kids under 18. So you've never been to a Denny's or stayed at a motel. Weird but okay. That isn't good or bad. Maybe it is for townies. I don't know.
I ate there several times. The service went downhill at the end. I only stayed at the Econolodge once, with an ex. After that, in 2013 or 2014, I couldn't get them to rent me a room.
Just subbed!! I was there acrross the street the mall when they filmed The Heat! I lived in Danvers for a while during that time and drove by there almost everyday when it was open. Its a little creepy seeing in look like that now. When are they demolishing that property?
Fascinating stuff dude! I’ve noticed that they keep pushing back the demolition date, so as of right now, I’m not entirely sure… but it’s lasted a lot longer than I expected!
That EconoLodge was used by the state to not only house the homeless but to also serve as transitional housing for families w/children (varying reasons - homelessness, leaving domestic violence, etc.) and refugees relocated to MA by the federal government.
@freedomofspeechorDEATH1111 Not everybody who ended up there was a criminal. A contributing factor was how broken the system is. Many who ended up here were dumped with little to no supports to help them get on their feet. The state is notorious for that, dumping people without a longterm plan. To make matters worse, DPD often looked the other way when reports were made re: certain activities there. They were more concerned with parking at the edge of the Denny's parking lot and chasing red-light runners than doing anything about the drug deals and trafficking going on right under their noses. People don't just up and decide one day to be a problem. It's usually a bunch of factors, with the most dominant one being systems that failed to do what they exist/claim to do.
I lived in north reading mass for years which is about twenty minutes from there I remember that dennys and hotel haven’t been in that area in years live in Maine now it was drug invested hotel

On a side note; behind the MGH building stands the Endicott Pear Tree, the oldest cultivated tree in North America.
