Even so, this trade was pretty terrible. They desperately need offense or someone to fill in that SF spot and they could’ve gotten buzelis who dropped, knecht who dropped, or dillingham, who dropped, etc. they could’ve even drafted williams. This is probably the last chance they’re ever gonna get to develop players while they’re not super competitive so honestly this was just flat out stupid. And they did it for god awful picks.
Spurs will just keep tanking. Castle helps but not playoff close. I do think that trading away for players in 2030 and 31 is bad. Be lucky if Wemby stays around after contract after more bad seasons. Get ready for a last place season.

Why so many Spurs fans are giving him the benefit of the doubt is BEYOND me. Drafting a player that could give you bench depth and average 18-20ppg like a Lou Williams is ABSOLUTELY worth a top ten pick in any draft, but especially a "weak" one. Rob's floor is a 6 man that can get you buckets; his ceiling is all star. A team like Minnesota that's competing for a championship wouldn't bet on a ROOKIE to be a major contributing piece in their future if they didn't value his talent.

After the Kawhi debacle, the Spurs want character players. Players who think team first, like a Ginobili, hence Stephon Castle is their guy. Won't be surprised at all if the Spurs used their draft assets to get another Aaron Gordon type big guy who will do the spadework.
