    Thank you for the videos. Recently did this job to my garage floor, using the same calking material. Wanted to mention to anyone else doing this type of job that, at least in my experience, the calking started off 'flat' but as it dried is slowly started to 'sink' into the cracks. I let the calking dry for a few days before I started the epoxy job itself.
    Some more research showed that if you truely want to have a flat surface, use a concrete mixture for filling and a floor sander afterwards. This was a bit much for me & I was already hurting on my time to get this job done. Floor still came out great, but man what a job it was! I was solo and from start to finish it took me almost 2 weeks. I put a lot of effort into the prep, including the acid etching. Advice for others attempting this job: get help! My biggest issue was cutting in the epoxy on walls & corners, while also rolling it: the epoxy was drying faster than I could get it down. I ended up doing several coats with a clear coat as the final.

    DO NOT USE CAULK! I did in my garage after seeing this video and it cracked within a couple weeks. I have now ground it all out and filled it using a 2 part epoxy filler. I also now have big patches in my floor where I had to patch the epoxy. Wish I had never seen this video.

    I am getting ready to epoxy my own floor. The company I am going with says to not fill the saw joints. However, I think I would feel more comfortable with filling them with caulk like you did. If you caulk it and then smooth it out to the top of the crack, how does the epoxy still show the lines?Also, have you ever had any problem with the epoxy cracking along the joints if the garage settles at all?Thanks!

    By filling the expansion joints ( saw cuts) in the floor with caulk, will that cause the concrete to crack in other places or will the floor still be okay? We just bought our first home and I want to apply an epoxy in the garage before we move all of our stuff in the garage, Thank you and I love all the hard work you and your team put into making all of the videos you produce.

    Thanks so much, excellent video series! I'm about to epoxy the concrete floor of a new 2,600sqft shop. I've etched and power washed it, now I'm caulking the saw cuts. My first pass "sunk" into the cut, so I'm adding a second layer to make it even with the surface. A question -- I'm having a hard time avoiding caulking residue on the top concrete surface. Will this create an adhesion problem for the epoxy? I'm trying to scrape off as much as I can but it's still there.

    Hey nice videos, I'm going to epoxy my own garage floor. I have a question for you. I have a few large cracks in my floor. approx 1/2" wide. The slab has lifted a bit as well, my question for you is this. Can i use an epoxy such as hilti or set 22 to fill the crack ? my concern is if the epoxy shield "rustoleum" will bond to the epoxy i use to seal the crack. I could just dry patch the crack but im sure it would just re-crack. What do you suggest? Where do you buy your calking ? Thanks

    • @jonasnazaruk4888
      @jonasnazaruk4888 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A friend of mine is an engineering nerd (love 'em)...I asked him the same thing, as I moved away from caulk, and ended up using a fast setting cement. He was surprised at how little the cement expands/contracts w temp....it really came down to how stable your foundation/slab is. My house is 23YO, and nothing's changing, so I felt confident in using a less flexible material to fill the cracks....but only time will tell.
      Also, remember, epoxy and polyurethane also expand and contract with temps too.

My saw cuts are 1 to 1.5 inch in width which makes me nervous that it will crack the epoxy when a car drives over it. My saw cuts are obviously larger than what is posted in the video. Good job. I have a few questions. I did my floors about ten years ago with Rust-Oleum 2 part epoxy. It’s time to redo it again. I have pressure washed the floor and and got about 30% of the old paint off. Do I need to take the rest off or can I paint over it with the same product again? I know Rust-Oleum sells a primer, but that’s for floors that are already painted and since I have areas that are bare concrete I’m not sure if I can use it. If I need to strip the rest, what do you recommend using? Thank you.

    Avoid caulk for this application! I love just about everything he teaches, but I can't agree with the caulk method. I tried Big Stretch on expansion joints 1/2" wide x 1/2" deep. I live in Colorado in June, so low humidity, dry weather, and it's 6 days later, and the middle of the caul never dried, and still tacky and it's put my epoxy project back by days. I'm lucky because the caulk failed on my primer coat, but now I have to remove the caulk, and find another solution. It looks simple, but don't make more work for yourself, also, this stuff is expensive (about $70 worth of caulk being removed)....go another way.

      @jonasnazaruk4888 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robertbolen4151 Sorry Robert... hopefully others will see the comments before they use the caulk and save some headaches.
      In the end, I used a grinder w a bristle brush to get all the caulk out, then washed again with a degreeser before using Rapid Set Cement All to fill the joints (gotta work and clean up fast w this stuff). It cures very quickly, but I gave it two days before trying to primer it, then final epoxy coat (Arizona Polymer) and flecking, then two coats of polyurethane (Durathane 100). Just started parking cars in there this week. This floor isn't going anywhere, but I'm still cautious about hot tires off the highway in the summer. We like to keep the hot cars out of the garage anyway (girls' rooms above the garage)...we cool them off outside on really hot days anyway, and now we just have another reason to do that....no reason to abuse the work.

    Incredible!. I've been doing epoxy for ever. You have no idea what epoxy process mean. You should never use caulk in concrete floor for epoxy.
    I would to see that caulk in 5 years .we sign warranties for 10 years with 0 cracks

    do not use Shermax prior to using any solvent based epoxy coating. the following is taken from the Shermax data page directly from Sherwin Williams website: "Never use in architectural joints, joints subject to heavy abrasion, wear or joints frequently under water" an expansion joint applies here. Not to mention Epoxies are not flexible and this is an elastomeric caulk, which is extremely flexible. Shermax is tested and rated for mostly vertical services This video should be taken down immediately. IF YOU FOLLOW WHAT HE DID, IT WILL FAIL
