Okay, I'm going to break this down for you really quickly. Taiwan was stolen by the Republic of China once Mao defeated them. Mao went to get it back and the US intervened. It was not a democracy either. It became a democracy in the 90's at the same time it was officially agreed between the Republic of China, Taiwan, and the People's Republic of China to re-merge co-operatively and peacefully.
Except the west views Taiwan as part of China. Are you going against your own country just to score points on China ?

The problem with china and taiwan isn’t communism or democracy but traditional chinese mentality .
Traditional chinese mentality has resulted in chinese people suffering 3 main problems which is being superficial , overtly materialistic and the most important flaw which is pragmatism to the point of stupidity .
Because of being overtly pragmatic, chinese people do not play devils advocate and adopt a progressive mindset to understand and question why should something be done or why shouldn’t it be done .
What sort of benefit would prc obtained in starting a war with taiwan other than obeying and kawtowing to some middle age winnie the pooh which frankly should focus on other issues in PRC?
Young chinese folks whether in china or beyond have , should and are currently focusing on things that matter . In fact , the young folks in china have done so much for PRC and the world that it frankly puts many country in the world to shame , even the USA.
If young leaders in the PRC make this paradigm shift in their mindset , I would mostly likely see Taiwan unifying politically with the PRC in the future willingly.
