    Try putting the wire in the pen, heat it up while using the hammer to flatten the wire. Faster and less stress on the wire.
    Don't hit the pen...

  • @scionhud3462

    Bend your measured length of nichrome wire and fit in pyro pen holder. Find a drill bit or rod of metal with the same diameter as the gap of the two wires in the terminal and then using a pair of pliers squeeze the tip so there is about 7mm length where the wiers touch. Remove the spacing tool. Apply power - adjust if able to have the wire with a faint red or a blood red colour. Start peening (tapping) the tip to flatten and get the spoon shape you require, you may need to occasionally squeeze the tip together as the spoon shape appears.
    Don't flex the tip as shown in the example - it weakens it.

    Can we use copper or aluminium wire?

    • @richypyrography
      @richypyrography  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, you cannot. Use only Nichrome wire to do this.
      It's an alloy of nickel and chromium.
      The difference is that this material has a high electrical resistance and produces heat that way, while copper and brass are good conductive metal. Do not work with this kind of burning system.
      Also Nichrome does not oxidise when heated.

    • @richypyrography

      Hi Tom. No, I don't heat the wire. Plugging it to the machine is dangerous. You can miss the right place with the hammer and damage the pen. I've had these tips for years and none of them broke.

    • @tommytitmouse
      @tommytitmouse 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richypyrography Thank you for replying Richy.
      I `ve tried the "no" heat method, and of course you do still end up with a decent Tip of course ,but I`ve found that the heat method does get the job done easier & quicker ,not that quickness is absolutely necessary, but for medical reasons with my hands ,I find personally quickness is more advantageous for me.
      I understand where your coming from with your comment however ,I got around that by using a cheap Chinese Pen and use that to hold the Tip while applying the heat , but I`ve not had any mishaps with accidental hitting of the pen up to now touch wood. .. I suppose Its all a case of being careful and being precise in what your doing if using heat method. But Both methods work of course. So thanks for taking the trouble to show your method as it gives people a choice to see which they might prefer..

      Tom, I agree that heating the metal is the right method, of course. It causes less stress on the metal and it's easier and quicker, as you said, to get a good result. Hi Hamid.
      I think this is nickel-chromium wire. You have to buy it in a pyrography supply store to be sure.
      You have machines that work with 120V and others that work with 220V/230V.
      You must check the voltage you have in your country before buying one.
      If you have 220V and you buy a machine from the US or Canada you'll burn it.
      Hope this helps.

      Don't worry Ricardo,that's only a old project of mine in mind and,I believe that's a good idea,should be nice making our own very small logo,signature, or initials to be printed on the wooden artwork in the same manner fish scale tips does,of course that the branding head must be connected to burner handpiece through two bronze tube connectors (same used by manufacturers)also in the same manner as standard tips,but in this case the branding head obviously must be cast on a mould,I don't know about the real possibilities to make it,nor the casting temperature for the ni-cad wire,surely must be a very high one,I believe that's a very very good question and a real challenge for the manufacturers,and I would be very surprised and at the same time very disapointed in case this small job for some reason cannot be done with the advanced tecnologies of our time.
      I make anatomical custom grips for target shooters.

      Maximum 3 volts ac. Try getting someone who knows how to put a light dimmer to control the output ac voltage of your pyrography unit if it does not already have a variable control - 1.5 v ac to 2.5 v ac is the normal supply range for .5mm to .9mm thickness nichrome wire. If you have an old heater element that has a ceramic rod with the nichrome wire as the heating element try that for thin wire nibs. A request for those who did not UNDERSTAND the questions DONT try to answer.

      Up to 7 or 8 amps, would be the upper limit, remember the ac output voltage will normally be below 3 volts. If making your own unit, the secondary winding only needs about 7 to 10 turns. If you lay 5 turns and then tap every 2nd turn you will be able to get a useful range. Cheers from Don.

      Emanuel, já sei mais informações sobre os fios.
      Fios de cobre e latão são condutores. Funcionam bem nas máquinas do género "ferro de soldar" porque o calor é conduzido para a ponta e estes metais são bons condutores, então funciona.
      Com este tipo de máquinas o aquecimento funciona com a passagem da corrente elétrica e o aquecimento resulta precisamente da resistência a essa passagem. O níquel crômio é uma liga, como o nome indica, que é altamente resistente à corrente, não oxida e funciona.
      Espero ter ajudado.

    Todo el vídeo se trato de aplastar un simple alambrito q malo

      Hola José. Este alambrito es, en realidad, un hilo de una aleación niquel y cromo, de 1 mm. Las herramientas a usar y la forma en que se utilizan también es importante. Me siento que no haber entendido.
