Mental toughness is one thing I got from being a U.S. Infantry Marine that I use every day. The mission must be completed. Adapt and overcome!

I disagree, we are born with plenty of mental toughness, we get lazy as we age. Just look at all the training a baby does to crawl, walk, speak, they overcome challenges every day and don't give up, adults give up too easily. Mental toughness, if you don't use it you lose it

that's a great opinion! i also think it's because as we age, we know there's other (usually not so rewarding, but easier) way to achieve something, so why would you “waste” your energy when you can do that particular job with less effort? as babies, we feel like this is the only was to go.
i really don't like the attitude i just described. i always try to push myself and make myself uncomfortable, because that's when things get the most rewarding!

Obviously it doesn’t factor in as much for normal people, but what do you think about elite athletes (normally sprinters, I’ve noticed) that do have that chest beating kind of bravado. Is there anything to that? For example, did you see Karsten Warholm before his 300m hurdles WR?

I'd argue that that isn't an example of "mental toughness" as much as it is psyching yourself up, increasing your intensity/focus, and perhaps an attempt at intimidating the competition. Two different things.

You lost me when you talked about masculinity. Unless you think women already got the mental toughness thing sorted out (we haven't)

If you're so fragile that a phrase triggered you, I suggest building more mental toughness.

@@StrengthRunning Triggered? I'm fine. Just find this "woke" belief that there is some negative connotation within masculinity or being "pumped up" about something (particularly athletics) that is somehow toxic? What is toxic is when people like you attempt to be inclusive while being exclusive. Feminism is GOOD. Masculinity is GOOD. It makes us, US. Hate or disposition to other's divides. Maybe we both can find some mental toughness in this?
