    This is my dream camera~ i know it sounds stupid as a dream camera, but I'm currently using my phone because i can't afford anything. Once i finally get my laptop i will hopefully have enough for the camera. I really love photography and this camera seems amazing~!

      Update: 📷📷📷a dslr is no longer a dream to me. I bought a used nikon D3200 with kit lens and sigma 70-300mm lens and battery charger all for $170 from fb marketplace. Battery doesnt hold charge for long so i ordered two batteries from ebay for about $30. There are lots of people who can aford to buy the latest cameras and will sell their old for cheap. There where even cheaper cheaper cameras some as low as $70 for older dslrs 📷📷📷

    I absolutely share your sentiment on the 1000D, it was my first ever DSLR and really opened up the world of photography to me, even though I'm only a hobbyist. Bought it at the start of 2009 and used it so excessively that the shutter actually failed after around 50-60 thousand exposures. Thankfuly, Canon repaired it free of charge, and it never had any issue since then. In 2013, I bought a 650D before embarking on a longer trip, just to make sure that the camera won't fail on me at the worst possible moment.
    One year later, as my 1000D was just gathering dust, I lent it to a friend, who was asked to help photograph a wedding, and he of course also used it as his main camera. Maybe two weeks ago, due to me being stupidly nostalgic, I asked whether he could return it, and he did! I'm really surprised how well it held up to more than a decade of use, with the only signs of wear being very smooth and shiny plastic in places that are touched a lot, as well as the rubberized surface coming off the grip at the bottom.
    So yeah, it still looks good, it still works, and I still love it for what it gave me back when I bought it. Attached a mini tripod and put it on display in the living room with the 55-250 tele that was the perfect addition to the 18-55 kit lens it came with. Just a very well made little camera that even my very big hands didn't have the slightest issue with. :)

      Ohh wow, thank you for sharing your story and experience! Really appreciated it and also really appreciated the time that you took into writing this comment! :-)
      Yeah. the Canon eos 1000d still holds very well today and will still produce great looking images. The built quality is also really good for type of camera and the fact that it still works even after so many years is a testament to how well this camera was built/design. Furthermore, this camera also gives a really nostalgic feel everything you hold and use one today.
      Thank you very much again for sharing your story/experience with the camera as well as for watching. I hope you have a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

    This is the DSLR that I learned digital photography on. I had borrowed one for a time and then I found a body at a thrift store for $80. Bought a film camera for $20 for its lens until I found a $20 18-55mm IS II kit lens. Used it for many years well into obsolesence, finally replaced it with a 77D so I could get video capability.
    Got it out today to play with it, I definitely miss some features I've gotten used to with the 77D, but it's otherwise still capable enough if one doesn't want to crop too much.

      Thank you for watching and also for the comment. :-) The 1000d is still a reliable camera and will still deliver good results. I am sure you'll produce great results with it. :-) That being said, I think for similar price, the 500d or the 550d might be a better option if you shoot a lot in low light and would like to record some form of video and need a bit more accurate focusing system. Just something to consider. But the 1000d will still cover general field of photography very well.

The form factor and the weight of it also makes it nice to travel with the camera and take more pictures with it as well. :-)

    I still have one. For me it's important to have a cheapo "disposable" small camera when i go to places where my camera and lens could be stolen or damaged. Vacations, beach, rain, protests and riots, dangerous places in my city, hiking, etc. Places where I feel more comfortable with a cheap small camera and not exposing pricier cameras or lenses or not carrying something bigger.

  • @alfepalfe

    I still use my canon EOS 500 in 2022, as long as you feed it with film it can be good. I also use my 1100D that I got for cheap, I must say that while I really do like my analog cameras I do enjoy not having to feed my camera with expensive silver coated plastic foil.
    My favorite camera to use is probably my Konica autoreflex T3, built like a tank that thing is.

    • @DavidCuhls
      @DavidCuhls  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, analog cameras are nice and depending on the films you feed them, they can give you some really unique results! But of course, digital will give you that convenience and also the ability for different kind of experimentations that films can’t really deliver… But you seem to have a good balance between the system, which is good. :-) Thank you very much for watching and also for sharing your story, very much appreciated. truly perfect choice , as you say from 8mp you have 4k size ,means 10 mp fit the requirement, no video mode (i heard about a 640x480 one but at least obloslete) so you concentrate yourself on the photo essentials points, as you say many nice Yongnuo lens like the 50mm f1.8 ,also live view and sd slot ,easier to manage sd slot than Cf slot, this camera fullfiled everything we really need without any gadget option , for 50 usd or 50 euro it's a very good choice ,not only to got the cheapest one camera , but to got really what you want for
    what you payd also this camera seems little tiny compared to some other canon eos one ,maybe eos 100d is more tiny but the 1000d is much more cheaper

      @@DavidCuhls yes. I would like to upgrade the camera soon :) i was thinking about the 6D to go full frame or the 5D mark III. I mostly want to photograph my family and friends and animals (e.g. my dog running), as well I like macro. At the moment I only have one EF lens. The 100mm 2.8 USM. Do you have any advice? :)

    • @DavidCuhls
      @DavidCuhls  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the 6d would be a better choice at this point. Sure, the 5d mark iii has faster autofocusing point, a little bit better in video, a couple of megapixels higher, a bit bigger and more autofocusing points in a nutshell~~ But the centre autofocusing point of the 6d is more accurate and can focus much better in lower light than the 5d mark iii's centre autofocusing point which can be more useful with you macro photography. The 6d is much lighter and small than the 5d mark iii which allows you to take it to more places thus capturing more images with it:-) The colour science of both cameras is the same but due to lower megapixel count, the 6d produces a tiny bit cleaner and less pixelated images than the 5d mark iii when using higher ISO. The last point is that the 6d has wifi and GPS, which can be very useful when traveling and wanting to tag your location on your images and also instantly share your images rather than wait until you are on your computer and import the images and send it to your phone... :-)
      Regarding the lens, I think it's nice to also have the 50mm 1.8 from Canon as it's a nice and budget prime lens that allows you to work in different scenarios yet still giving nice and sharp and that bright aperture for beautiful background blur. A zoom lens that I can recommend is the older version of the 24-105mm f/4.0 L IS USM lens. The price has dropped so much and even though the newer version is much better and sharper, but due to the older sensor of the 6d or even the 5d mark iii, the older version is still a great match for them. :-) Furthermore, the lens is also weather sealed which will allow you to shoot in harsher environment like in the rain. However, if the price is still too high, then the 24-105mm f/ 3.5-5.6 stm lens is also nice, it offers the same focal length from wide to semi telephoto length. However, it is not weather sealed and the aperture is not constant. But if you don't need weather sealing and if you shoot with higher aperture like f/5.6 and above, then this lens might be better:-) Overall, these two lenses (24-105mm range and the 50mm) are nice lenses to have first.
      When coming from a crop frame camera, 24mm doesn't sound that wide... but because full frame is bigger, 24mm feels like a 15mm on the crop frame camera, so it is wide :-)

    How does the camera do with indoor shots? Currently using a Sony bridge 20.1mp camera, which is good outdoor, but indoor requires the flash and resulting in everything over exposed. Thinking of getting this, but I'm quite new to cameras, worried the drop in mp may be a problem? But your shots look great!

    • @DavidCuhls
      @DavidCuhls  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the camera in genera still can deliver great images in general but I do understand that if you are comparing the 20.1 mp camera it can seem that you are downgrading. I am not familiar with the sony bridge camera that you have so I cannot use it as a reference point.. But if you would like to shoot indoor with this camera, I can say that as long as if you have enough lighting indoor, then you can definitely get great results with this camera but if the lighting is not so great then using higher ISO will give you a more pixelated image (but you still can clean up a little bit in post processing if you want). I think if you don't shoot in very low light situations as well as not going to crop a lot from the image, I think that this camera would still be good. I think 10mp sounds very little because we are in the time where camera's average resolutions are between 24 - 36mp and 10 is less than half of that... But if you think about 4k videos, many people really like the resolution, but it really is only around 8mp... So I think if you don't crop/zoom in a lot and if you can deal with the low ISO range compare to today's standards, then I think that it would be a great cheap little camera to have :-) If you already have some canon lenses laying around, then this camera is only about 40-70$/euros or get a secondhand set for about 150$/euros... :-)

      This camera does not have any native video feature... If you want a camera that can take decent videos for the budget then maybe look at the Canon eos 100d, Canon eos m50, Canon eos m5, Canon eos m100. If you don't need autofocus in video, then the Canon eos 600d, Canon eos m3. They are all very affordable second hand options that will take good videos. :-)

    Can someone please tell me how to transfer photos from the camera to a pc with usb? i got the programm but it doesnt connect

    • @DavidCuhls
      @DavidCuhls  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have already installed the EOS Utility 2 software, then all you have to do is connect the camera to your computer (works for both Mac and PC), make sure that the camera is on and the SD card inside the camera is not set to "protect" so that the computer can access the card. Then depending on the settings that you've set while installing the software, the EOS Utility 2 might pop up automatically, if not, then just manually open. Once it's open, depending on how many images you have on your camera, it will take time before the selection menus will be available to click (will be greyed out for a short moment). But if the software shows no sign of recognising the camera at what so ever, then it is the problem of the mini USB cable not having enough power for data transfer which is a common problem, which is why you can't just use any mini USB cable. Hope that helps somewhat, hope you have a nice day and have fun shooting:-)

    This camera was a birthday gift when I was around 15! That’s already a decade ago. I’m trying to use it again as I’m feeling nostalgic about it too ☺️. Can you please share again what were your recommended lenses for this camera? 15mm and..?

    • @DavidCuhls
      @DavidCuhls  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing your story! Regarding your questions, I don't think I was recommending any lenses in the video though... But it really depends on what you need to shoot with this camera. I would recommend the ef 50mm 1.8, ef-s 17-55mm 2.8 (if you need an all-in-one lens that still produces sharp results, let in a lot of light into the camera and has great contrast to it.. a little pricey but worth it if you only want one lens for everything on a cropped sensor camera like the 1000d). :-) Then I would recommend getting the ef 40mm STM, the ef-s 24mm STM and the ef-s 10-18mm STM lens. You don't need to get all of these lenses because that would be over killing it as well as more than you would generally need with this camera (I think)... haha.. But just to give you a general idea of what you can look at and determine for yourself of which option you think might be a good option for you base on what you shoot/plan to shoot... :-)
      Sorry again for the late reply but I hope that helps somewhat. :-) Otherwise, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

    Its still worth it in 2024 as it has a 10 mp sensor and I consider a 8 mp sensor the smallest useable one I recently got one great condition from a pawn shop and it cost me less than what I spent on a brand new compact camera that has an 8 mp sensor and has an iso
    Setting of up to 1600 which is good for a compact camera
    So it is a very good choice if you just want to dabble in DSLR photography or are just starting off
    And don't want to spend a lot of money on a usable DSLR camera

    You mentioned the metering but actually spot metering is missing. So it’s less than what modern cameras offer. I bought this camera because your video made me curious and I had the 1100D as my first DSLR but this is cheaper now ;) I love the side memory card door and the ISO button. The image quality is in RAW quite stellar to my surprise ! I have the feeling that all the higher megapixel cameras except the 20, 24 and 32 megapixel ones, only introduce more noise at base ISO and don’t have real advantages. I had the 1100D, EOS M, 100D and the 50D (12 mp,18mp, and 15mp) and they seem not be really better, actually the EOS and 100D photos look worse! The 20 mp class brought a change IMHO

    • @DavidCuhls
      @DavidCuhls  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thank you for correcting me and also for sharing:-) Much appreciated. I always use evaluative metering on all of my cameras, so I totally forgot about the spot metering, sorry about that. I can agree that that some of the higher megapixels cameras from canon have introduced higher noise in the base iso. I only experience this with my 7d but even then, the noise is still cleaner than my 1000d at the base iso... I never own the other cameras that you've mentioned though so I can't say much about them but thank you for sharing:-) But I do think that noise isn't really everything because if those cameras can get you the shot, then it will get the shot :-) But thank you for sharing again and have fun shooting!:-)

    • @DavidCuhls
      @DavidCuhls  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that the image quality is definitely alright even if you are planing to edit with the files from the camera... though it might not be as smart as a modern smart to pick which mode to set itself to achieve the best image quality whereas the modern smart is a smarter chip inside to decide a better auto settings for you.... Other cons would also be the dynamic range might not be as good as the more modern high end smartphones as well... the autofocus can be slow in low light compare to smart phones as well... but the pros is you can change lenses to get new and different perspectives that will surely please you (if you also invest in lenses). For a small dslr, if used properly you can get some really amazing results ☺️☺️ (there are also sooo many good but cheap second hand lenses that you can buy as well that you give you different perspectives and effects...) and this camera will allow you to learn the fundamental of photography from the technical side which will help you to creat the images that you want one the long run ☺️☺️

    hi i just watched your video after searching on youtube about a cannon 1000d.It was the best video i've seen about the camera.It's the wifes camera she purchased it a number of years back i dont know when it came as deal with the body and two lenses a 18-55mm and 55-250mm with a bag.Recently i retired and got camera out and manual is missing so im working in the dark.We are in lockdown in melbourne australia at the moment so my question is if you can help me i would appreciate.
    I needed a new sd card without the manual it makes it hard to work out what size to buy,so i brought a lexar 16gb professional sdhc uhs1 663x95mb/s which i have no idea if thats the right card.Question two you mentioned about a wifi sd card what size card do you recommend and that goes about to the first question as well and what brand.
    Example a toshiba flashair 16gb sdhc/sdxc which i dont think its the right card is $143.09 delivered then the next size up is a ez share 32 sdhc class 10 $46.00.I don't think this camera can take a 32gb card.Cheers Gary

    • @DavidCuhls
      @DavidCuhls  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gary, I am very sorry for such a late reply, I've been very busy lately... Regarding your question, this camera is definitely capable of taking cards with higher capacity than 32gb, so you don't need to worry about that. That being said, this camera produces relatively small files anyway, so getting something lower than 128gb will do it (or just get many small capacity cards, so incase you lose a card or two, you won't be loosing a lot of images).
      Regarding card type, I think the normal SDHC cards with any class from class 4 and above will do the job. This camera does not shoot very fast and the files are small and a lot of these SD cards are also very affordable nowadays (I remember back in the days when this camera was still new in the market, even an 8gb SD card (class 4) for this camera was already super expensive).
      Regarding the wifi card, I am not sure about the possibilities of options as it seems like there are different brands and variation of wifi SD cards available in different countries. But I would go with the Toshiba because that was the one that was recommending to many people and this brand seems to be available in many countries as well... But if it's too expensive, then you can choose other brands and options as well (I am not sure why it is so expensive there...) but just read the reviews. Again, the speed of the SD card does not need to be super high for this camera as the files are not large. So if you can find the lower class but still above class 4 cards, you can save a bit of money and it would still work!
      I hope that helps, I am sorry again for such a late reply... I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting!
      David :-)

      It really depends on what kind of look you are going for and your budget really... I think if you are looking for a nice standard focal length lens that is really good but also cheap, I'd recommend the Canon ef 50mm f/1.8 STM but if you are looking for more of an intimate look for a budget, then I'd recommend the Yongnuo 35mm f/2.0. They are both very affordable, lets in a lot of light, creates nice background blur and give you really nice and unique look actually. :-)

    • @DavidCuhls
      @DavidCuhls  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion, the 450d is better because it is better in lowlight, gives more control options, cleaner images with slightly more megapixels. Better screen to judge the images, more autofocusing points and slightly better built quality. So on the long run, I think that the 450d is a better choice and since they cost almost the same, might as well just go for the slightly better option. :-) Hope that somewhat helps, I wish you a great time and have fun shooting :-)

      I think for the long term investment, the 1100d might be better because it will be able to take pictures in lower lighting condition, the colour reproduction of is also smoother as well. Furthermore, if you would like to shoot videos, the 1100d has a video feature and the 1000d does not have a video feature. This camera and iphone 12 pro max, which takes better photos?

    • @DavidCuhls
      @DavidCuhls  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that they are very different. The iphone 12 pro max will have the advantage of computing photography where it will be able to combine images instantly to create a higher dynamic looking image thus using faster shutter speed. The images from iPhone 12 Pro Max will also deliver a much more pleasant looking images straight from the camera. However, the 1000d will give you the possibility to change lenses to change your perspective without loosing any resolution and details. The 1000d will also have a better RAW file if you want to edit adjust your images quite heavily somewhere later on in you photography path. With the ability to change lenses, you are also able to mount lenses that allows more light entering the sensor thus giving a more natural blurry background than what any smart phone can achieve as well as better in low light with those lenses. Lastly, the 1000d will allow you to have a complete manual control of your camera so that the you can achieve the precise image that you are after.
      So at the end, it depends on your priorities will determine which camera will produce better looking images for you needs. Hope that helps. Thank you for watching. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

      Yeah, the 1000d can be found for around 50 euros nowadays. That being said, if you do order it, make sure to invest in nice lenses later because the camera sees the lenses, so a lot of time soft blurry images are produced because of the lens rather than the camera. But the 1000d will definitely help to teach you a lot about the mechanism in photography as well as some of the core rules. :-) I am glad to hear that you are getting into photography too and I wish you all the best with it. I realised some of the lenses are expensive but I mainly shoot with full frame cameras for my photography/filmmaking jobs and to me it didn’t made that much sense to look for cheaper lenses just to fit on the 1000d when I have some lenses already from my professional setup.

      I personally think that this camera is still a good camera if your concern is getting good images but you don't shoot too much in low light. If you still want to get this camera, I think the best and first lens to start with is either the kit lens (18-55mm lens, the image quality is not great but it will teach you the basics and will give you okay results but it will give you the basic focal length that you will need to get started with DSLR). The other lens I recommend is the 50mm 1.8, it is a cheap lens that gives you really good images and nice blurry background. Furthermore, it allows in a lot of light into the camera, which means that you can take nicer pictures in the dark with this lens. However, the down side is that the lens is a little bit too tight and you don't have the flexibility to zoom. A third lens that I could recommend is the canon 10-18mm, it is an ultra wide to wide angle zoom lens but it is also affordable and has good sharpness and contrast control. If you would like to know how this camera performs, I've created a video shooting with this camera here: th-cam.com/video/32UMnCuvEAA/w-d-xo.html
      If you have more questions, feel free to ask at anytime. Otherwise, I wish you a great time and have fun shooting! Thanks for watching!:-)

      I got this just yesterday secondhand. It comes with the kit lens and 70-300mm lens. I'm planning on using this outdoors in daylight and in the night. I'd stay on auto most, but the kit lens AF seems damaged (it only refocuses one way). I'm looking for other lens (like 18-135mm) but I'm not yet decided as the lens cost more than the price I bought the package for. Any recommendations will do for beginners like me. Also, watched that other video and you took epic shots! You got a new subscriber here. 🙇🏽‍♂️

      Hi, I think that the camera is still worth but but a 180 euros is not worth the money unless if the camera already comes with a lens and some other essential accessories. Otherwise try looking at the canon eos 1100d, canon eos 500d, canon eos 100d and canon eos 1200D.

    Ok, I’m confuse now. I want to give to my wife one of this cameras. But the info says the camera has a 10.1MP, and her phone has 16MP. Is it for real? I mean, the camera of a smartphone can really be better?

    • @DavidCuhls
      @DavidCuhls  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think if you just purely judge a cameras based on the number of megapixels that they have, then sure, many smart phones will be better. But smartphone sensors are smaller thus, the light gathering per pixels is less, giving your less performance in low light. Furthermore, smaller sensors also means you cannot naturally blur the backgrounds as nice as you can with DSLR cameras. Adding on, you can add different high quality lenses to DSLRs to give high quality different perspective to the images you are capturing. Not to mention the colour science, colour reproduction, skin tones of each camera sensors that also matters...
      DSLR cameras will also generally give you more manual controls than smartphone cameras and also better and more robust files to edit should you want/need to.
      Also, when you say “one of these cameras”, it also depends which model of “one of these cameras” you are looking for. You can find more features cameras with high resolutions as well. You can easily go for 24mp, 30mp, 50mp, 100mp models as well. If the number of mega pixels matters that you will always have the option to upgrade to a higher megapixel count.
      But if you are not ready to take controls of any of the features and prefer the camera to decide a lot of things, then maybe the smart phone might be a better camera to use at the end of the day...(?). But that’s just what I think..

      If you mean no recent firmwares, then yes, the camera has been discontinued for a very long time now. Even if you want the latest firmware for the camera, you might have to manually select the operating system that the firmware was available for in the time period... If you are using more modern operating system, the website will not show any firmware at all simply because there are no firmwares for the 1000d made during the time period of more modern operating system to be compatible with... I do beliefe that this camera can still take great images and I have done some videos about my light photography with this camera. However, when I do say “takes ok images from time to time” it really refers to the technical side of this camera when compare to more modern rebel cameras to date or even other low end entry level cameras. Can the 1000d still take great images? I would say absolutely but I also have to be realistic when comparing it to more modern cameras when it comes to the technical side of the images. But of course, the creative side of the images does depend on the photographer, not the camera. Thank you for watching and for sharing your comment, much appreciated it.
