That’s how it is when you play 1v1 or 2v2 with a ref. Even maybe 3v3. When the ref passes it in, that signals the play is live and all players are aware. When there’s no ref, or when ppl check the ball to each other, some ppl expect a double check, some assume every pass is a check up, some ppl don’t check up and the other person isn’t ready, etc. By giving the ball to the ref, and the ref passing it in, it makes it fair because all players know the play is now live.
