I have 3 of these tractors. A 1979 first model, a 1983 and a 1986. I will be converting the 1983 into a crawler/dozer and the 1979 into a loader/backhoe. Love these powerhouses!
Absolutely the best most informative video on this topic, I didn't want to miss a second of it and I'm going to go back and watch it again. 😎💯👍 Thank you, very thorough
You need to find a early 90's Massey build by Ingersoll. 316/318/320. The ingersolls are a great tractor and it's nice to get one with Massey clothes on. That old 1650 is a good tractor too though.
Looks can be deceiving. My Ariens GT17 will outperform it all day. They come standard with front, mid and rear hydraulic lifts, as well as front, mid, and rear physical PTO’s. I have a 446, it’s big and fast, but it bogs down easily and if I wanted to use it to turn an implement, I would have to spend extra money for hydraulic PTO and three point.
My dad had a Case 446 for many years. We have a snowblower, mowerdeck, tiller and sleeve hitch for the case. It's an older design but basically has all the same features. The tiller is really cool because with the hydraulic pto you can reverse it. My 2 biggest gripes with the case is the lack of weight on the front because the engine is an aluminum block and very light as well as the lack of a middle speed range would have been nice. Otherwise it's a great machine
Thanks for the reply and sharing about your tractor. I agree with your assessments. I added the 4, 42 lb suitcase weights to the front for that weight needed. Thanks again for watching! =)
isavetractors with the tiller on the back we always had to back up the hill in my parents yard because the front wheels would be near weightless and almost lifted off the ground. It's a bit of a design flaw on their part but not a deal breaker. That tractor is still around and the original engine is on its second rebuild
1944johndeerel All the Case /Ingesoll Operator Manuals state front weights are needed for rear mounted equipment. They also state when loading on a trailer to back on.
I debated between one of these and a JD 420. I ended up with the Deere, but was impressed with this unit. The deciding factor was the width of the tractor since I have sidehill that I have to mow.
Definitely the second coolest garden tractor. The best being the case 444. Because that's the one I have. Even if the all hydraulic line is better in every way. Wish my deck was hydraulic. Of well. Awesome video
Fascinating tractor and excellent video. Does the rear axel(s)/wheels behave as a slip differential or are they capable of being locked as is a locking differential ?
Thanks! I did have to take a little time off, because our business was so busy, but we are back in control, so I can get back to doing the fun stuff! Thanks for watching!
Just bought a Case 446 and hitched it to a 4'' x 8' trailer and headed down a steep driveway and it almost got away from me. How do you manage to hold back the load going downhill? I'm guessing to raise the rpm and keep the lever speed slow?? Thanks and great video. Very helpful.
You would want to keep a High RPM, and then use the hydro lever to keep it slow. If you have a hydraulic flow valve like on this one, you can lower that too. Also the brake. I don't have that problem because my farm is flat.
Hey norman i jist got a 4116 an it seems to be dripping oil from the right nipple off the bottom of the fuel pump im confused theres no line coming off it is it supposed to be capped off any advice as i just bought it and need to start using it
You need a cub cadet 102 very very reliable my granpa bought it when he was 19 and it still runs fine just got a new and better engine not because the original engine was bad it ran perfectly fine we just wanted more power for plowing snow and hauling wood from our woods to our house and other stuff ya gotta get one
Codys Gaming Channel 8750 IH Cub Cadets are great! I built a front end loader and a backhoe for a Cub Cadet 149! Check out my playlist for the build videos
With all due respect, Case Ingersoll GT’s have a hydraulic drive system similar to a backhoe. A Cub Cadet is a nice piece, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the utility and quality of CI
Great video you did a good job explaining how the drive works. Defently on my to get list but that is a looooooong list and they are a little pricey. Even at auctions I have seen them needing work go for around 600. That's why I don't have one yet. :). I think the most I have ever payed for a mower was 300 for a 317 John Deere and I have a lot of mowers. That's a great looking mower excellent work 👍:).
I have a question for you case 446 guys,I have a 85' 446 that ran great, then suddenly won't get fuel, has new battery & plugs so I put a new fuel filter in and it's getting to the carburetor but still nothing,it starts for a second with carb cleaner but won't stay running, is a a fuel pump or the carb?? I'd appreciate any input, love your channel!
I noticed during the video that the rubber air gasket around the oil filter is missing. You are over heating the intake valve seat on the oil filter side of the engine. It will eventually loosen in the bore and damage the block. That is an expensive repair. I know, it happened to my 4018. It only happens with the Performer Series. If you put your hand next to the filter with the engine running full throttle you will feel all the cooling air that is escaping. It should be cooling the block and that valve seat. It cost me a couple of hundred dollars to get the hole welded, rebored and a new valve seat installed, all for a 5 dollar rubber gasket. The gasket is shown in the Onan parts manual, I never did find it in the tractor parts manual.
isavetractors Ok Norman, here is the info. Onan Parts Manual for P216G - P220G and Linamar LX 720, LX 770 and LlX 790 Pg 47, Item# 15 Pn: 122-0502 Gasket, Oil Filter (Code 17CD, 17CV, 17DF AND 17DG)
theres a petcock at the right side. we've had one in the family for almost 30 years. they need almost no maintenance at all aside from new deck bearings "you don't have to replace housings" every 6 or 7 years, new deck belts every 3 or 4 years. we replaced the electric clutch maybe..12 years ago. very impressive machines. i graded my driveway with it using the plow. pulled things i never thought it could pull. and does a really nice even job mowing.
After obsessing over the Pmax for years I am curious about these for bush hogging and tilling. What do you think is the better system for hard hitting implements? Seriously considering getting one to use a hydra cutter.
I just transferred the three point lift off my Case 644 loader onto my 4020ps and am very disappointed in how little it can lift. On the 644, it could lift several hundred pounds easily, but the same three point on the 4020 barely lifts 200 pounds. I found out from a local Case expert that the issue is due to the built-in holding valve on the 4020, whereas the 644 doesn't have a holding valve at all. The holding valve on the 4020 doesn't let high pressure get to the three point. Do you know a way to get more pressure to the three point. Otherwise, it's kind of pointless to have that perfectly good three point on the 4020.
Hi I have 2 question, I have a 444 in which I need to replace the o-ring for the travel spool, after reading the manual it says I need to do a hydraulic test to set the relief valve and I was wondering if you had a video on how to do that? my 2nd? is what is the purpose of the flow control valve add on?
I don't have a video on that, good suggestion though. Follow the instructions in the manual on doing the pressure test. The Flo Control Valve, can slow the flow of oil to the transmission. It's kind of like a "Creeper Gear" in gear transmissions. It allows me to go really really slow during operations such as tilling.

I have a case 210. Currently i have 2 issues with it. When i lift my mowrr deck it only lifts in the front and only 1/2" in the manual it says the wheels should not touch the ground when it is lifted and my deck wheels are on the ground all the time up or down. 2nd issue i can't explain... shimmery bronze in oil. Regarding the mower deck: Check the linkages and then check the hydraulic fittings for signs of leaks. You can also remove the mower deck, crawl under there and have someone operate the lift up and down, and observe what's going on. You may discover binding or something. Regarding the oil: it's probably water in the oil. When oil mixes with water and moisture it turns a golden brownish color.
I'm sorry, it gets to a half of a tank of gas and just shut off. I put that half a tank of gas back in it will go back to running. but then it does the same thing again half a tank shuts off fuel line at the bottom of the tank goes to the carburetor and I got a vacuum line at the top it goes down just above the vacuum that goes into the governor pedal thing inside the engine I think that's what it is. But can't figure out why it shuts off at a half a tank of fuel.. No nobody can tell me what causes that they want me to bring my more in and leave it sitting with two or three weeks I can't do that. Still got 2 to 3 weeks of grass cutting left. Can you give me and idea. Please! 😕
Don't see a response or that you indicate what type of machine this is on! Best guess would be that you have a weak diaphragm in the fuel pump or a plugged vent in the fuel cap. How much gas does your gas tank actually hold as in how many gallons
Where is the starter motor fuse located?
That 4118 have down pressure on the rear hitch? What is the size up that that would have a rear pto set up .. on any make or model ? Ty
