How a corrupt prince, a Saudi arms dealer, & a Banana empire set the stage Adani's US indictment

  • Fifty years ago, the revelation that American multinationals had been bribing officials across the world to secure contracts led the United States to enact an extraordinary piece of legislation banning bribe-giving overseas. The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act was an unprecedented bid to bring order to global trade. As many companies have discovered, the Act can bite hard.

What is questionable about Adani's indictment is that it the same people who have bought out charges on Pannu's case etc by the NY Eastern District Court US Attorney Breon Peace an Obama man ...with the same judge a Biden Appointee, the judge who convicted Trump. What is even more interesting is that it has been done a day before Adani was to raise money in US, not to mention the Hindenburg Tamasha last year targeting Adani. People forget that west has done similar hit and run attempts with other Indian Business Men like reliance and Mittal.

Mr Swamy, while many rich and famous columnists are furiously jostling with each other to enlist as apologists for all kinds of wrongdoers under various pretexts and similar figleaves, you have had the courage to stand by the polite but firm refrain: "it ain't fair!" Congratulations. In addition to incisive gyaan, you also have strong values!

    Well done, really good video.
One thing I've noticed that is missing from all the discussions around this scandal is the lack of concern for the most vulnerable element of this sordid deal-making: the poor Indian consumer. Bribery and corruption has one notable loser always, the person buying the product. In India, I imagine, there is no choice in the selection of an electricity provider. In this case SEBI (Solar Energy Board of India, I may have got that wrong) made a "deal" for an abnormally high price with the energy provider (Adani), which they then would have passed on to the end user (the Indian electricity consumer).
The SEC also realised that all bribery and corruption that involved governments ended up eventually being paid by the taxpayer - because the people paying the bribes got that money back through higher prices.
In the US corruption cases of the years leading up to the formation of the SEC there was rarely any government involvement - it was usually done by either private individuals or more likely by publicly listed corporations. In this case in India there is quite clearly government involvement at various levels, reaching to the very top. It is no secret to most Indians, I imagine, that Mr Adani and Mr Modi are very close friends.

It is shameful that the World sees the crime of Adani, but our own Govt. does nothing. Even a small economy like Nigeria is cancelling contracts.......while Godi media and Whattsapp university is trying to protect an obvious wrong doer!!! Shame on us...shame on Adani.....shame on Modi!!

US court issued a warrant to seize the phone of Company A nephew, which revealed evidence of criminal financial transactions.
Company A bribery led to high electricity prices, due to the selling the imported low-quality coal marked & sold as high-quality coal to states.
I wish that our central agencies conduct impartial investigations into the company & officials. Only they are responsible for their illegal activities.
In the US, lobbying is a registered & legal, however bribery is crime. It is important to understand the difference between legitimate & illegal activities.
I also hope agencies stop targeting businesses from non-Gujarat states based on mere suspicion. Fair treatment is vital for a robust economy.
P.s large companies often have businesses running in many states, regardless of which Party governs there.
In most or majority of the states, business decisions are dependent on if central agencies like ministry of new and renewable energy can add pressure on state officials

US is very prompt on taking action against Indian businesses and must be wherever illegality is established.
On the same lines there are many US companies operating in India which have charges related to bribing Indian officials through their agents. Will the Indian authorities charge the global CEOs of these top companies of wrongdoing and issue arrest warrants is to be seen.

"there are many US companies operating in India which have charges related to bribing Indian officials through their agents." Please name some examples. The act applies to U.S. companies as well so they are much better than our corrupt regulatory agencies at prosecuting their own companies as well as is evident from the walmart case mentioned in the video

The quid pro quo of US is practiced blatantly by super pacs etc. Everyone knows Kamala spent 1 billion $ for her campaign. And Zuckerberg gave up to 400 million. And Elon spent around 125 million. So how what Adani did is different!

Yes, however they did not lie to their investors. Remember Gautum Adami testified that the underlying bonds (loans) would not be used to bribe public officials of a foreign nation. Then he destroyed evidence of doing that and try to cover up his crime.
