@Canon, please give us the "we are not idiots" firmware fix with an advanced mode for the R50. I have used every setting in my R50 hundreds of times now. I don't need an explanation and click OK every time I change settings. Now I know why so many people keep it on "M". Less work to set it up then missing your shot because the camera is unusable until I click OK.
Just last week Sony pulled their updates for the A7R5 and fx cameras due to some serious problems…. I’ve learnt not to update immediately until it’s safe to do so….
You're not the first to say that. Makes you wonder how many resources they spend developing and testing the firmware updates. Lumix start it all. Each firmware updated made the camera more usable. Canon started doing it with the R5. But if companies are going to get on the bandwagon, they need to put in the right amount of time and not just a list of features for the marketing folks.
When trying to update via iphone app, I get an error. When trying to update via PC, I get another error. There's something really fishy with this update.
Ok Simon, I was about to ask for instructions how to use the elusive LP-E6P on the likes of the R10, R50 & R100 .. but after some minutes you revealed they're on the same level as the R3 ;-)
All us who bought the Canon EOS R & Gave canon the Finances 2 help their New Digital System are now just left Behind in the upgrades! Why Canon we deserve Better 4 Supporting u in ur new Camera System!
Thanks for the video and the details. Anxiously waiting and have the India link, but decided to wait until they posted it to the US site out of caution.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker I can confirm that the R10 has the same smaller battery. It's one of the reasons I quickly got a pair of extra batteries so I can swap between 3 of them. The only downside is that the battery level doesn't show up properly on the camera meaning it shows as full till it stops working.
Fuji destroyed the eye AF on their top of the line cameras with firmware this past year and they won't acknowledge it. Lots of Fuji people are jumping ship. With that said, I've always been an early adopter of firmware for my computers and cameras (always Canon) and I've never had a a single issue. The nice thing too is that Canon will generally fix the issue quite quickly as mentioned in this video.
Oh, no, the old batteries will work fine. But if you're buying new batteries, might as well get the LP-E6P as they cost the same and will work on newer cameras without issue.
Simon, stop recommending to not update if you do not have something solid about these updates. I made the update on R5 and R5II and all fine. The update for R5 was on Canon US website, but not on the head of displayed list. I made a screen capture and helped people to find the update on forums and social media.
Everything is fine and dandy until it bricks your camera. I always wait to apply fixes. Because there a good chance there is a problem. Some larger than others. How 1.0 updates did we have? 1.0.1, 1.0.1.1, 1.0.2, 1.0.3, 1.0.5, 1.0.6.1, 1.0.7.1, Those the ones i can find on the internet, how many times has Canon got it wrong at least 8 times with the 1.0 Canon has got it wrong a lot. How many times have they told us, don't install this update unless you are exhibiting the problem. Who is more wise, you telling everyone go ahead install the update when Canon says don't unless you have a problem, or someone who say, take a wait and see approach. Canon cannot be trusted, sometimes they sent out a firmware that bricked the camera.
So there's a major update rollout for; R5ii, R5, R6ii, R6, R8, R10, R50, and R100. Me with my R7: ...what am I to you Canon, a $2 hooker 😂?!?! Yes, I know we got an update a few months ago, but I think that was just to add support for a lens. *update* never mind, its there.
Yeah, I wondered about that... 1.5.0 is the latest. It likely will come, but sometimes Canon delays some updates. Saw this with the R5 / R6 a few times.
According to canon germany the updates for R7 as well in example the r6 II too are out since 20th of september ;-) I think canon rumors either hates R7 or got an incomplete list of updates and doesn't check back ^^
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker I know man, lol, I honestly think the r6iii is gonna be something for me, I skipped the r5ii, I shoot Sony right now for video, but when my Canon R6 and R7 get it right, it really gets it right, it just fails hard in High dynamic situations.

Just last week Sony pulled their updates for the A7R5 and fx cameras due to some serious problems…. I’ve learnt not to update immediately until it’s safe to do so….
The R3 does have a new firmware update. only in Canon India.
the new fujifilm firmware updates messed up the AF-C badly.
No updating the pre-capture for the older models that support it?
So seems like no support for the new batteries on the original EOS R 😢
Looks that way. If you were local, I could give you some LP E6NH batteries ;)
What if everyone or most wait 2 weeks then the problems show up.
Just updated my r6 mark 2. Now it's bricked. Won't power up. 😢
All us who bought the Canon EOS R & Gave canon the Finances 2 help their New Digital System are now just left Behind in the upgrades! Why Canon we deserve Better 4 Supporting u in ur new Camera System!
Still not on Canon USA for the R6MKII at least.
The firmware hasn't hit Canon UK yet, 16:16 Friday
Thanks for the video and the details. Anxiously waiting and have the India link, but decided to wait until they posted it to the US site out of caution.
Have you read anything about a Canon R7 Mk2 coming out in Feb 2025.
R7 too. Firmware 1.6
I have an R5 MK I currently running 2.0 is it worth updating if I don’t have the new battery? Also I primarily shoot stills
great im updating my r8 right now........
Any word on if they removed 30min time limit on original R61?
Simon, any word on a new Sony A75?
Nope. I'm not expecting much in terms of leaks for a month or two.
If you want I give a the best answer for build camara . This tips or idea will be future sir
The R7 got the update too
What about the R3 is it getting a update???
The EOS R10 uses the LP-E17 battery. If only it could take the LP-E6.
It should take the LP-E6... I thought just the R100 and R50 got the small one.
I just upgraded my R10 without problems !
Have a great weekend too
Thanks Antonio. I might have to go the the camera store. They sent me the wrong battery grip ;)
Thanks Simon, does that mean the R7 is going to be retired?
R7 firmware updated too. It’s now 1.6.
Good advice to wait a few days.
No r5c?
Fuji destroyed the eye AF on their top of the line cameras with firmware this past year and they won't acknowledge it. Lots of Fuji people are jumping ship.
With that said, I've always been an early adopter of firmware for my computers and cameras (always Canon) and I've never had a a single issue. The nice thing too is that Canon will generally fix the issue quite quickly as mentioned in this video.
That's got to be very frustrating and a kick in the gut.
informative news thanks Simons
Thanks Simon 👍
Thanks Bryan. 4-7 years before we move to YVR ;)
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker hopefully see you out here again soon!
So does that mean I can’t use my old battery’s in my R5 anymore 😥
Why would it mean that?
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker was just asking wasn’t sure if the update would effect that thank you
Oh, no, the old batteries will work fine.
My R3 bricked with the 1.8.0 after update. It wouldn’t even turn off. Pulling the battery fixed it thankfully, hope it doesn’t keep happening.
If you were able to pull battery to fix.. that isn’t bricked.
Nothing for the RP?
Or the R
I think we all like to hear different camera manufacturers not just Canon..😞
I am waiting for the going on sale update
The firmware is free ;)
I know - you meant the camera ;)
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker yes. Hopefully it will go on sale during Black Friday
If it does, it won't be much. It's too soon and selling very well. They could do anywhere from $0 to $200, but I can't see any more.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker probably just buy a used one. Don’t want to deal with sales tax and the camera is overpriced
@@OrdinaryFilmmakergot 1.6.0 yesterday on R7
According to canon germany the updates for R7 as well in example the r6 II too are out since 20th of september ;-) I think canon rumors either hates R7 or got an incomplete list of updates and doesn't check back ^^
Everything is finally getting clog2 :), yessir
That's would be nice, but the sensor needs to support 16 stops of dynamic range first ;)
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker I know man, lol, I honestly think the r6iii is gonna be something for me, I skipped the r5ii, I shoot Sony right now for video, but when my Canon R6 and R7 get it right, it really gets it right, it just fails hard in High dynamic situations.
That's why I like the R52 - for video, the extra dynamic range is incredible. But I know stills is a different situation
