Honestly man thank you so much for this. I've been playing guitar for over ten years and not knowing what I'm doing musically. This has been a godsend.
Thank you so much for this series! This is the best primer on basic music theory for guitar that I've ever seen. I really like the fact that you've taken the time to break it down into bite-sized chunks. I have no background in music theory at all, and the smaller pieces make this so much less intimidating. I appreciate all the effort very much.
Jon Jenson Thanks! So glad you find it helpful. It was definitely my goal to break it down in a way that makes it easy to follow, so I really appreciate hearing that. Thanks again! -Chad
Yo Chad, just wanna say you're chaning the way I see myself using the guitar with these videos. It's a bonus that these are free. I don't know what else to say but thank you, every lesson is engaging and simple to understand.
I love this series so much! It's absolutely perfect for me. I can watch one or a few short videos everyday, learning bit by bit. And as a non-native english speaker it's still so easy to follow. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Sir i got a problem.I 've learned all the 7patterns of g major scale from your major scale mastery lesson and i am also able to visualize all the note names on the fretboard. But when i play the C major scale from the 5th string 3rd fret the pattern does not match with the c major backing track (C G F Am).I also know that moving to another major note will still have the same pattern. So how can i play Gmajor scale patterns over C major scale starting from any note of C so that it matches every note with C major scale backing track. Please help!
So when you start at a root anywhere you do wwhwwwh steps..how come when you look at the fretboard layout on this video the patterns don't seem to me that they are following the wwhwwwh.?
when do you think we should accompany these lessons by actually learning to play the scales and such? for example; should i start practicing major scale at this point or finish all the lessons, then start the playing? i am not sure if you still check the comment of these older videos, but wanted to ask anyways. GREAT lessons by the way, i finally understand theory after all these years playing.
+Kenneth Rivera It's a IV-I-V in the key of G. C is the IV chord, G is the I chord, D is the V chord. That's because the chords in the key of G are G-Am-Bm-C-D-Em-F#dim. So you can see those 3 chords are in there. Those 3 chords together can only be found in the Key of G. It's prob little confusing since it starts with C as the 1st chord but it couldn't be in the key of C because there is no D major in the key of C. If that's confusing keep watching the series. I dive way deeper into keys. Thanks! -Chad

I recommend to start practicing right away. Playing guitar is way more important than understanding the theory. Thanks! -Chad
How does C-G-D became a Key of G?
