Just a tip, it would be nice to see it working after you completed the "restoration". Also may want to be careful what metal you use for the electrolysis if you're going that route for rust removal. The sacrificial piece you used looked to be a small zinc coated wire. A larger carbon steal piece would have worked much better.
Yeah we decided to start doing that on the videos after this one. And for electrolysis we changed over to using a piece of large, flat, rectangle scrap steel and we bend it into a U shape and have gotten better results, overall works more effectively. Thank you for the informative feedback! I’m glad we stepped in that direction following this video (:
After so much heating to remove that screw I am afraid the metal parts in the area were affected and lost their hardness. Don't expect much endurance from the ratchet mechanism but some life is better than the rusted scrap it used to be.
What voltage and fluid is used for electrolysis? I was cooking off rust from some unplated really rusty sockets in muriatic acid, just before watching this vid. (I rinsed, dried and oiled them afterwards).
So we use a car battery charger, which is passing 12 volts. And we don’t use trickle charge, we use high pass through. You can use acid but honestly we tested so many ways and the results always ended up being similar. We tried vinegar, baking soda together. We tried baking soda by itself. We tried salt with baking soda. We’ve tried acid as well. To be honest, it never made a difference from what we had seen. So now we just use baking soda and water. And sometimes we throw in simple green. I know it sounds crazy but it still works really good.
The best results came more from what steel we used as the sacrificial piece plus how much area the sacrificial metal covered inside the electrolysis solution. So more coverage across your bin or tote or whatever you use works really well to hit the entire rusty object. I don’t know all the info about all the science but just that’s it works very very well. Check out the pliers video we uploaded shortly after this one, it will give you a better visual of what I’m saying (:
Yeah, we do that intentionally and I’m glad you noticed that. :) We just posted a rusty pair of pliers on the channel if you want to check it out! th-cam.com/video/W38VWHiQ4XU/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, we are working harder to make even more dramatic changes and things. Side note, we do try to keep things original when it comes to the pitting and overall aesthetic. I understand it may not look 100% brand new, but getting it close is what we aim for. :)
It came out looking almost brand new!
I like how you guys do different things, all satisfying to watch in their own ways.
Thank you, we really appreciate the feedback. It means the world to us! Glad you enjoyed the content and continue to support the channel :)
Did you watch the same video?
@@francissobotka8725 I did. Key word, almost. Poor sad guy hating on a small channel.
👍
Definitely fun! Sweet 👍🏻 👍🏻
Thanks, your feedback is very helpful! If you haven’t dropped a sub, please do we’d love to show you some more! (:
Some rusted out tools just aren’t worth it.
This is just about there bud.
Cool video Thanks!
Haha you are right about that one! It was fun to see if we could make it functional again
That is good idea for restoration!
Nice work, ready for another decade or 2...
Thanks! And yeah as long as we keep it in the right place haha
Este restaurador, nos quedó debiendo
Nice one mate. 👍
Thanks!
Nice video mate and very good work. Keep it up. 👍😁
Thanks! Same goes to you, keep up the good work too! (:
Muy bonita quedó, una pena que fuera tan trabajoso quitar el tornillo y tuviera que calentar, good work!
Thank you! Yeah the screw was the only real problem on this tool, the torch came in handy lol

Haha yes very true, we’ll consider using this tool for a rainy day. Thanks for the feedback by the way!
@@J23Restorations OK it doesn't look like it was made yesterday, but it's still probably better than the new junk from CCP.
