    You made me want to shoot cosmetics even though none of my clients are cosmetic companies! (And now I really want to replace my Profoto Acute with D2 heads. I've rented them a few times but maybe at some point I need to bite the bullet and buy two or three heads)....

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or maybe you're fine with what you have. It's just light. Invest in some great modifiers instead like reflectors and grids if you don't have. Of course it's nice with new gear 😁 like the D2's especially if you like to freeze some action.

  • @rinky_dinky
    @rinky_dinky 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very nice, I learn something new today.
    I achieve a similar gradient effect with a roll of lee filter 216 diffusion
    And a flash with a standard reflector with a very tight h-comb.
    Could I ask why didn't you choose to light it the way I described ?
    I'd want to find out what's the pros and cons according to you.
    Thank you

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's how I also normally do it. This is just a "short cut" trick for people who don't have so much equipment. However, I often find that I can get a more perfect gradient much faster this way so...

    • @rinky_dinky
      @rinky_dinky 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@botvidsson oh yeah definitely , I'm sure balancing the gradients on both sides is much easier with your method, cheers mate !

      Yes they are! I used a regular matte photo paper.

  • @LeonKolenda

    Very Curious, You mentioned Matt Photo Paper, Now when you create this Gradient file in PShop I presume, is it a 16 bit file so there is NO banding in the final print? Do you have your own printer? I don't have a printer but considering having some printed commercially. Do you think you could just print a few different gradients, like Gold, Silver, Black to white? Maybe even in different sizes? Great Idea!

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I actually used a 8bit jpg max quality. No banding. I sent it to my local photo lab. Yes made in PS with the gradient tool.
      I think it's a great idea to print out in different sizes, the one I made is A3 and it's a bit too big for a lipstick. I think printing a black/white gradient is the best, fits all products cuz the light should be neutral color.

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably yes but I think the gradients have to be very small. I will try to do a ring light tutorial as soon as I get my hands on a beautiful ring. 😁

    Why do you bounce the light from the softbox on the white board? What happens if you just light the product using the softbox pointing directly instead of bouncing?

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You mean on the gradient board? Then I will get a gradient on the lipstick.
