We love listening to your stories because we did the same kind of things as we were growing up so keep telling them again so that we can hear them so that we don’t have to go back and look for the older videos. Thank you so much for your time I’m a widow now, but I do keep busy and I do watch your chats and I love them and this is my husband, my deceased husband‘s iPad. Thank you for your stories I’m 85 and grew up in rural Tennessee and I’m Jean Smith. Thank you.
I really enjoy your chats and also I enjoy the lady in Georgia, Helen Wyatt, and then there is the lady granny Lois Rice and of course BillyJean

Hi, Granny Pat! I am 36 years old and I’ve always loved old movies from the 30’s to the 60’s, and l loved Yvonne DeCarlo. When l was little, we used to watch The Munsters on Nick at Night and l didn’t know it then, but l soon learned, when l took an interest in old movies, that Yvonne DeCarlo played Lily Munster lol. I also love her in McClintock! With John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara. Old movies are an escape for me. They’re made during a time I’d have loved to have lived. Sometimes l wish l had a Time Machine so l could experience how people lived without so much technology- we can’t seem to anymore lol
As far as Saturday nights, when l was 18 l worked at a nursing home, and some Saturday evenings when l was off, l would still come to the nursing home and spend it with a lovely lady, Uva, and l would sit in her room with her and we’d watch Lawrence Welk on PBS, which l enjoyed so much. l also enjoy all your cooking and reminiscing; you’re truly a special lady!

I am 69 yrs old, but I played outside too. I roller skated, rode a bike, played house etc after school. The Helms man came down the street and all us kids could pick out a snack off the truck. Our parents had a tab. I love to play at night in the summer. And I learned too how to walk on stilts. Thank you for the memories.

It's okay to cry Pat, I've already been crying for 10 minutes! I also shared a bed with my younger sister and that was a special time! We had a feather bed and in cold weather I would scrunch down so I was covered except my nose and eyes. When we moved into town and we had a very good furnace, my Momma made each of us feather pillow! Life was "good", but I always missed the feather blanket!. Very happy memories, thank you Pat! ❤😊

Dear Granny Pat, you are a jewel. Thank you so much for the stories from your life experiences. They provoke such warm memories from my life. In today’s video, you made me reminisce about the long, carefree summers of childhood, and the fun activities my friends and I did from morning to twilight, when either the mosquitoes would run us inside, or the loving voice of Mother would call us to come home.
I started thinking of our skates we would strap on our shoes, and the elusive skate key, the many Red Rover games with the neighborhood friends, and Hide and Seek. It was a good childhood. I think I need to write it down since you have kindled my memories…. ❤

So many things are different now. I remember gathering around our stove and my grandparent's stove in the winter. Playing outside. I only had a brother, so it wasn't the same as when my mama was growing up she had 8 siblings. Mom was the baby of the family, so she finally got her own room because the older ones moved out. Mom told me they had an outhouse, and she would have my grandma sit on the seat first because she would warm it up, my mom was about 5 then. I love all the memories thankfully they are mostly good ones. I try to tell my grandbabies about how much fun we had and how much fun my mom had growing up. Didn't have a lot of money but it didn't seem to matter then. God bless

We made Christmas tree forts and I just turned 40 last month. It felt old fashioned and wholesome back then. We collected all of the thrown out trees after Christmas was over and made igloo type houses on some willing parents' yard. We made allies and enemies. Overnight, the enemies would take their bikes and steal your trees. We played kick the can during the day with those and then defense mode with squirt guns when the enemy came to try to get our trees. I think that trend ended when we aged out of it, but the late '90s until 2000, it was a huge thing in our neighborhood.

Loved this and got me to remembering my childhood, no technology then. We’d roller skate, see how high we could swing, hide and seek in the neighborhood, ride bikes, hopscotch and sometimes if we could afford it we’d go to the matinee on a Saturday afternoon. We could watch movies all afternoon for a quarter. If we had an extra dime we’d stop at the penny candy store and get ten whole pieces of candy for a dine. We knew we had to be home when the streetlights came on and you best not be late. I shared a bed with my sisters too, even when we had chicken pox😂. So glad I grew up then instead of how things are today.
I keep meaning to ask how you got interested in collecting your beautiful dishes and glassware?, learning the talent of your beautiful tablescapes, etc?

On many saturday nights we played pinochle or hearts with my mom and my step dad.. wasnt yvonne decarlo in the Munsters on the television! Remember Peter Lorree...eeek! I liked vincent prices ' voice. Once in awhile I would ride the streetcar to downtown Portland with my Gramma. We would go have a fancy meal at the Bohemian Restaurant! Then go over to the NightClub where my mom was singing and they had these nice semi circle bench seats all nice and padded, tuck and roll.leather! We would stay for a few songs then take a taxi home.Everything was free, even the taxi because my mom was the singer there. It was lots of fun and sort of glamorus too, even though I was a tomboy! I had a little purse to go with my dress and balero top, and I kept a pack of candy cigarets in it along with a,cherry sucker to make my lips red.! Remember how it seemed like all the adults smoked! That was crazy , At 15 I tried my first cigarette, newport longs for the ladies...well I threw up afterwards and that cured me of ever wanting to smoke again! You just put me in mind of our sawdustburner in the floor of the living room. It was a heavy metal flowery design and you could look down into the furnace. Our house always smelled good of sawdust mixed with all kinds of wood including cedar! The house was two story and we had what they called registers in the upstairs floors where our bedrooms were.! Since heat always rises our bedrooms were warm if we remembered to leave the registers open. I loved those days from the 1940s to the 1960s! ..seemed we had all four seasons where we lived, and had snow in the winter time around the holidays! Wish I could go back! I had the best relatives, and cousins and grammas and granpa and all those fun games...red rover, hop scotch hide an seek! Thanks for reminding me Granny Pat! much love to you! I love your storys!

    Great stories G Pat!
I loved playing during the summertime. I am the youngest of 4 so by the time I came around, mom and dad pretty much let me run in our small town. We had no need to lock our doors and everyone knew each other or were somehow related. I would hear my dad say, “well there’s Bob; he’s my second cousin”. Bob was the town policemen. Us kids never got away with anything like sneaking out at night or soaping the windows with ivory bar soap at Halloween. We always got caught and were told by Bob, “now you give me that soap and I expect to see you tomorrow with a towel and bucket of water to wash that soap off.” Yes we did.
We rode bikes to the “2nd bridge’ which was on the road leading out of the town to the country side. Under the bridge ran a little creek that snaked its way through the timber and farmland. Oh we had fun playing like we were explorers discovering new territory.
I had friend when I was 7-12yrs old who lived just a block or so away on the edge of town, on a rural road. I didn’t know it at the time but they were dirt poor. Her parents had an old truck that was parked under a big maple tree. We would grab blankets and pillows and sleep the night away in the wooden bed of the truck, looking up at the stars and talking about everything. In the morning we saddled the horses and went for early morning rides in the country. Oh my…what wonderful memories. My town had 1600 people, a farming community. Remember Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird? Yeah, that was me. All the farmers knew me as “Charlies girl”. They all knew dad. He knew all them as well.
Your post today is so good Pat! You really made me remember things I had forgotten.
Youth today are empty of good experiences. They have NO idea what they have missed. You start out just riding a bike in the morning but by the time the sun set you walked aways with a day’s worth of experiences you never anticipated.
I know I write too much but Pat, you really brought things back to mind. This world would be a much better place if kids and young adults would put away electronic devices. They are OK but they can never ever create the beauty of interaction and life around you.
    I’ll stop now.
You had the best era. You are blessed Pat.

Your story about the heated bricks made me remember a night maybe 10 years ago now. My husband and I were traveling between WA and CA and it got late, the roads were covered with snow, it was cold…..we stopped at a motel asked about a room…..we walked in…..no heat on in the room! And the heater was a small radiant heater in the wall…..we cranked it as high as it would go, but it was gonna be hours before the room would even be warm. I remembered I had a microwaveable rice bag for sore muscles…..we got that and zapped it and put it in our bed to help take the chill out of the sheets……that was a cold, long night.

Hi Dear Pat! I'll have to watch that movie "ABand Of Angels." I love anything with Sidney Poitier. Such a talented actor! I loved Yvonne DeCarlo. She played Lily Munster. I loved watching The Munsters in the 60's. Your neighbor that had the movies for a nickel. That was so fun! You had a great childhood. The kids today have no idea. I love your stories. Never stop! Love you my Friend. Have a wonderful weekend. Shirley from PA

I just keep extra cords and stuff on hand for my iPads cause I got two or three we have more than that James has got iPads. I got iPads because he likes to mess with him too. He likes to look up houses and stuff and the News right on his iPad and get the weather and everything you know of course you know that so I’m enjoying your story today and brings back a lot of memories to me what we did one of these days I’ll have to do another one on what we did when I was a kid we went rollerskating and I never had the money to pay the $.50 it needed, but there was an old farmer that came that lived close to us and he would give some of the kids enough money, including me that I could skate

I had to entertain myself. I did play a lot in the creek that ran behind our house. I rode my bike a lot. No movies because our town didn’t have a theater and my parents probably wouldn’t have taken me anyway. When I think of Saturday nights I think of Hee Haw and Lawrence Welk. We could only get two stations. The story about your sister eating her jelly sandwich while you were in dire straits cracks me up!
