Pandemics and Earthquakes Are NOT Signs: The Mark Series pt 52 (13:1-13)

  • I still remember when I first started to realize that we had completely misused the words of Jesus. It took a while to be able to confront the fact that the teachers I had been so blessed by had actually reversed the meaning Jesus intended when He spoke these words. I hope that I can encourage us today to have humility and greater accuracy when dealing with end times prophecy and how current events might play in to God's end times plans. Humility itself can save us from a lot of errors and lessen the harm caused even when we do fall into error. In short, today's study shows how many of the things people often appeal to as indicators that the second coming is soon are actually not indicators at all. Earthquakes, wars, famines and pandemics included.
This is part 52 of the Mark Series, going verse by verse through the Gospel of Mark. Today we are in chapter 13:1-13
Feel free to use my videos in your own gatherings as an aid to studying Scripture.

I have been going through what I think is persecution, my youngest daughter Emily identifies with LGBTQ she had cut me out of her life because I wouldn’t go against the Bible. I have been praying so hard crying a lot and she texted me and said she wants to come home that she loves me. Praise God, He is worthy.

My family has a similar situation going on, there's a vast history behind it that I wasn't old enough to witness it understand, but I have seen the scars it's left on my Dad. So far there hasn't even been a text message of any kind. We're hoping for the prodigal daughter to come home. Please pray for her so that God may soften her hardened heart, even if we don't get to see it.

So why have the Bible at all if no one can know what it means? We need the Holy Spirit to understand the Scripture, we need to ask Him for guidance instead of ascribing to a "view" or denomination or particular teacher. It was written to give us instruction.

The thing is the last 30 years the media and technology have made our society have everything, from everywhere at anytime be available to us immediately. Someone farts and we all see a video of it on the internet. So what happens is that certain churches prone to legalism and religious fanaticism get dreams because their mind is constantly fed with these thoughts, and they turn into self proclaimed prophets. And this is not only about the end times. The majority, especially America where discerment and critical thinking is non existent, everything that sounds christianise gets accepted as truth whether it is a president or a norm in every day life. I start to doubt every source now, especially Christian right for that reason that best lies are mixed with a little true. And tell me the Deciever wont try extra hard to cause problems among believers, and seeing all the paranoia and division makes me feel as things are pretty up side down than what the teachers would say

Mike your work has been so important in my journey back to my childhood faith. The things I remember from the Babtist church I went to as a child , all the things I learned in Art school studying art history, the head dive into atheism , the dark path back that found me broken laying across my bed begging Jesus to come back into my heart, has been a long long sometimes harsh journey. I knew I had to start this new walk with the wisdom of a 46 year old with the faith of a 10 yr. Old. The church looked so very different from how I remembered it. I was reintroduced with charismatic teachers and while scanning utube I found Justin Peters, this lead me to Melissa Daughtery, then you. This was no doubt The biggest blessing. I was so confused I was starting to think I was wrong because my Bible my heart and what I knew about history didn't jibe with my childhood church or these new teachers I was introduced to. The 3 former , you Melissa and Justin have been so very very helpful in my growth as a new Christian. I still have such a long way I'm no doubt still crawling but I've grown more in the past 6 months then I have collectively in the past 2 years I reclaimed my faith thank in part to your teaching. I just want to say thank you . 😊

Hi Pastor Mike. I grew up in a hyper premillennial dispensational area where every time a new war broke out or natural disaster happened people went hysterical. There were a lot of scare tactics and pressured conversations used in kids clubs and youth groups and the church eventually split over the issue after I had moved away. As a result of this I grew up incredibly scared of the second coming of Christ and whether or not my salvation was secure. Satan was able to use this insecurity as an inroad into my life and I was lead astray, dealt with a lot of fear and anxiety, and had virtually no confidence in anything. Praise be to God that since then He has brought me to much better place but I still have struggled with eschatology and understanding it. I want to thank you for this video and others you have done on the subject as they have been a great help to me. I pray that Jesus continues to use you mightily in this way.

How does this prove anything? It just says he fathered Arphaxad 2 years after the flood and he was already 100 years old.. It doesn't say there was no time between Ham, Shem, and Japheth's birth (although I cant dispute that one, U could be right), but it definitely doesn't prove that the flood was told to Noah RIGHT AFTER his children's birth. It doesn't say when God told Noah all this. It only says the flood happened when he was 600 years old, it doesn't say he was told the flood would happen right after his children arrived.
The chapter in which it says he had his 3 children at 500 years old, is a continuation of ALL the genealogy leading up to Noah. Then there is a clear break in the text and it moves on to the story of Noah and the flood. They are not joined texts, so you can't conclude one happened right after another. The bible does this many times where it gives genealogy first and then delves into the things that happened between and after those times. Its literally just listing genealogy

I'm always telling people who say it's the mark, although the jab ticks that HUGE box above, it's not in the right hand or forehead, so it doesn't doom you to hell. Scripture says Jesus is revealed, believers are taken, when there is eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building and getting married (Luke 17). Those activities will be greatly diminished at the second coming (1 Thes 4:13-17, Matt 24:29-31). What will they eat and drink if there is famine, drought and a loaf of bread costs a days wage (Rev 6:6)? What will they plant if there are violent storms (Rev 16:21), excessive heat (Rev 16:19) and the sun does not shine (Rev 8:12)? What will they build if earthquakes move islands and flatten mountains (Rev 16:21)? Who will get married when love grows colder and colder as the tribulation progresses? Paul cautioned people of his time to work while you wait.
This study can push all other thought out and become idolatry. I know God placed these things in the Bible so it must be important. But being a master of Eschatology? That doesn't save! A person can study end times their whole life, and miss the point.

@@NRay-bt2kj No. The Bible is clear . The New Covenant was only given to ancient Israelites who were under the Old Covenant. See Hebrews 8:8, Hebrews 9:15 and Luke 20:35-36. Also, you have a misunderstanding of who the so-called "Gentiles" were. The word Gentile is Latin in origin so basically it's the wrong translation. The proper word is "nations" or "people" or "tribes". So, "the so-called "Gentiles" Paul and the disciples were preaching to were actually Israelites, either the Greek converts to Judaism or the elect diaspora, grafted-in descendants of the tribes of Israel who had been dispersed among the nations. Through the ministry of the disciple's great commission, they and they alone were called out from the nations to again be a holy nation of kings and priests, to be sealed for the day of redemption, which only they lived to see. Nobody today is a gentile of that sort".~Michael Bradley

@@user-ky2xo2ls4m We know who the so-called "Gentiles" are that were saved. They were the twelve tribes of Israel who had been sealed by the Holy Spirit in the first century as Rev.7:4 teaches. No one alive today is in need of being saved nor redeemed nor in need of being born again. Pagan, non-Israelites were never cursed with the Old Covenant Law of sin and death which means only ancient Israelites were in need of redemption. See Matthew 15:24, Hebrews 9:15, Galatians 4:5, Romans 5:13 and Romans 9:1-4. Pretending to be an Israelite is fun, but sooner or later, you must realize the truth that no one beyond AD 70 has needed to be saved nor redeemed, and that's a good thing.

The saddest part of all this is it seems to discourage the expectancy of the Lord. And the majority find comfort in that in the comments. Jesus Himself said to always be ready, awake, and watching lest that hour take you by surprise. Pushing eschatology that promotes Christ’s FAR return is actually *not* biblical. Since all through the NT we see the apostles encouraging to be sober and ready and WATCHING. Sure many can take that too far and I don’t think most would say the earthquake or the war in itself is a sign but the “the end is NOT YET” and “the beginning of sorrows” does suggest that they will escalate. Being more frequent and more intense as the Day draws nearer. The Bible also teaches that those who are waiting for His return purifies himself. So I do not think Jesus was saying “earthquakes and wars mean I am not coming soon” it sounds more like disappointment may have happened that the Lord has not come in a preferred time frame and now trying to ignore the global signs we now see. Sure things have happened in history that seemed alarming. Those weren’t in bible prophecy though. The world as a GLOBE are all pushing for the same things and it is all anti Christ. That should be a huge eye opener right there!

And the Left Behind books. That started out kind of cool for me, but then I was ... it became this Cottage Industry, and that was not something I was thrilled about. I read a few again recently, just because someone asks me about this topic or is talking about it all the time.
I don't often argue it, because I just don't argue non salvation issues especially with strangers. But JESUS is left out more and more often, and discussion of one specific human being, often someone in the realm of America politics (another problem! I want to thank you so much for this teaching!! I am 62 and most of my growing up years i was raised in the church. I have been scared to death at some of the teachings about Christ's return because at times I wasn't living for him. Id get all worked up and then the time predicted would pass or id just get over it. So, with recent political drama and covid, once again its like... He's coming guys, this is the big one!!! I have been pretty depressed about it. Now, I'm a Christian...have been for many years and I love my Lord. But its not me im thinking about. I read where people say ...come quickly Lord Jesus and im like Noooo!!! Not yet...please wait ✋ 🙏 😔. And here's why...I have sons and daughters in laws and grandsons and siblings and their familes...many who are not ready yet. That's who im thinking of. And my sons have heard people say time and again...hes coming soon!! What these false predictions cause is for people after a while to turn a deaf ear and say...ive heard all this before. Your message has given me a new perspective and hope ...it so makes sense and im looking forward to hearing the remaining teachings in this series. Thank you so very much for all the work and research you have done and for sharing with us. God bless and keep you.🙏

They forget scripture telling us to love one another when they’re giving an opinion ? Such a “ know all “ , critical bunch on social media. All anyone can do is pray for one another . I agree that the beginning of birth pains doesn't indicate an imminent return. However, when those birth pains begin to get closer together and more intense that does indicate that one needs to be ready for the water to break and to call the midwife or go to the hospital. These are signs of the times and indicate a need for urgency. We can never know when the 2nd coming is exactly but we can see these signs and either wake up ourselves from our own slumber or renew our earnest work of our Lord as ambassadors of Christ and preach the gospel in earnest! This is the reason why Jesus mentions and gives us these signs-to wake us up! It saddens me that because of others' abuse of prophetic gifts you have swung so far to the opposite side and are reducing the importance of these signs of the end times! We must teach the full counsel of God!

1 Thessalonians 5:2-6 NIV - for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.

    • @rastarobinson9964

@Martin Luther isn't that what the Bible says will happen? I think it's meant to be that way so that "he who endures to the end..." However those that are awakened by a great calamity that is also a purpose of God. These beginnings of birth pains doesn't mean 2nd coming is tomorrow, next month, year but an awakening that encourages believers to hold on to their faith, startles unbelievers to question the meaning of life and search for truth. It reminds us that we are in the last days (however long a period that is). When we start seeing other signs, especially those close or in the tribulation period we would know it's getting "real" (to coin a phrase). We should always be ready because even if 2nd coming is far off our own time might end today. That is why "choose you this day whom you will serve" and "today is the day of your salvation!"

    • @rastarobinson9964

In addition, it was the fifth consecutive above average Atlantic hurricane season from 2016 onward. The season featured a total of 31 tropical cyclones, all but one of which became a named storm." Take this and many other issues/problems worldwide and you can make a case for birth pains getting closer and more intense. That's all I'm saying! It doesn't mean 2nd coming is tomorrow but it is a wake up call: "people get ready!"

    • @MichaelBuckley284
      @MichaelBuckley284 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@Martin Luther I think you are right on, maybe not until everyone is dead but once the seals start breaking open. But scripture does argue in 2 Peter 3 that many in the last days, in their desire to continue with their sins, will mock believers about the coming of the Lord and how things are just continuing along as always:
1This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, 2that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles, 3knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. 4They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” 5For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, 6and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. 7But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.
8But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day

What opened my eyes was watching Hamas fire rockets into Israel again, and the leader of turkey calling for a United Arab force to march on Israel to deter them from treating Palestinians the way they are, and that they were in talks with Iran and Russia to make it happen. It's the beginning of Ezekiel wars for sure. I know that came after Mike made this video, but it makes me sad seeing him and many other pastors use scripture to say, "don't worry about the end times because we don't know."
Why then did apostle Paul and Jesus say that we would be able to tell the times are near? I get that there have been earthquakes and wars etc, and many point to ww 1 and 2 as the start of nations against nations, but prophecy is filled on God's time not ours. Jesus also said that the generation which saw the rebirth of the nation of Israel would not come to pass until the end time prophecies came to be.
It seems many pastors are one extreme or the other, that the rapture is tomorrow or don't worry about it and continue on as normal.. but a healthy understanding that the times ARE nearer than ever is what's needed to get people out to repent for their sins and to spread the gospel even more. I wouldn't want to meet Jesus upon the rapture day and have him say, "why didn't you head the messages I sent you that the time was near? You could have saved so many more souls and now they will face my wrath because of you"

    Thanks Mike,
This is great! We all as Christ's have times in our lives where we long for His return and at other times are grateful for the things He blesses us with to sustain us until His coming. One thing we long for is that He not return before all our loved ones are safely brought into the fold.
One thing Barnabas Fund informed us of a few days back is that about 1/3 of the population of the world is in a state of famine (including Christians) which is obviously concerning not from a point of His return but from simple concern of people going without basic necessities. This is heartbreaking. As one who loves food I cannot imagine what it must be like to starve to death. We sometimes say "Oh I'm starving" or "I'm so hungry I could eat a horse" yet we don't really have a clue what it is to starve. Please pray. I mentioned the 1/3 because it does remind me of one of the passages in Revelation. Thanks for reading.

Thnx Mike: I have to say that i have been following you for almost a year now. I most of the time listen very carefully to messages because of the hidden lies behind them. Brother, please keep your spirit, always stay pure. I thank you for your humbleness, kindness towards the non christians aswell. i think all of us as christians can learn from you

In Mathew 24:14 which is Mathews account of the passage you are teaching, it reads "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come." "... *_and then shall the end come_* ". I do agree with your teaching and thank you for taking the time but I do believe we are in the last times and also believe that Jesus is teaching here something like hey all these things are going to happen but stay focused on what matters which is preach the gospel to all the worldand then the end will come. I believe that technology has allowed the gospel to be preached in most of the world, especially now when this pandemic induced lockdowns have everyone coming to TH-cam, Facebook, etc., to watch church services.

I am still confused about the coming of Jesus. Does he come two times? First time for the church in the Rapture then to establish his kingdom on earth?

When you consider 70 Ad is judgment Part A, and then there is a future context of Judgment Part B The Time of Jacob's Trouble Tribulation.
You have to read all three in concert: Mathew Mark & Luke plus Revelation to get it.

      Matthew 24:3
And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
      Then verses Matthew 4:14

Yes, it all fits together like a puzzle. We have to study all the pieces. Off the top of my head, the entire book of Daniel but particularly chapters 9-12, Ezekiel chapters 37-39, Isaiah chapter 3, the Flood account in Genesis 6 to get a glimpse of what Jesus was talking about when He said that just prior to His return would be like those in the days of Noah, parts of the books of Micah, Amos, Joel, and Zecariah, etc.

@@sunnydaze1185 Why would you only hyper focus on just Matthew, neglecting Mark 13, Revelation, Daniel, Like 17, 21, &12?

    Yo, let's kick it
    Mike, Mike Winger
    Mike, Mike Winger
    Alright, stop, meditate and listen
Mike's back with a brand new position
When the Spirit grabs a hold of him tightly
He flows like fountain daily and nightly
Will it ever stop? Yo, I don't know
Turn out the lights and watch his books glow
To the extremist, he rocks the mic like a vandal
If your feet hurt, let him loosen your sandal
Dance if you want, Mike gives you the latitude
You want answers, bring some gratitude
Deadly, to the Pope and the heretic
He can slay a dragon with some rhetoric
If you got a faith block, Mike dissolves it
    Textual dispute, he resolves it
    Mike, Mike Winger
    Mike, Mike Winger
    More!

Pastor Winger is a man. A sinner like the rest of us. Not as bad as I am but one sin is enough to condemn. We all need the Grace of God to be saved.
Your high praise borders on idolatry.
I too have been blessed to be able to learn from Mike Winger.

@@melissaphotog He's got a point though. Always be careful of idolizing people over God. These lyrics mention the Spirit barely once. It's good to reflect every now and then where your focus is.
