Brp Fan in this video they were loading cane for planting. Most planting in south Louisiana is still done wholestalk like this. However some farms still do harvest wholestalk also. Chopping the cane with a combine style harvester is a more modern and commonly used method.
Aerial Ag Thanks! So the sugar cane plant takes it chopper up or whole stocks then? Thanks for the reply and sorry for all these questions! It’s all totally new to me! Would love to come our your way and watch the farmers harvest cane!
Brp Fan Not all sugar mills except both. The two mills close to where I live take chopped cane only. Some of the mills about 50 miles west of here still take both. Some farmers still prefer the old wholestalk method. They say it's a lot more economical and less traffic through the field. Some farmers do both wholestalk and chopped cane. If the cane is standing straight they'll cut wholestalk but if they start hitting some heavy , down cane they might switch over to the combines. The combines do a better job of picking up down cane. Keep the questions coming I'll answer if I can!
I think I just learned something. Being a northerner I know nothing of cane other than it supplies SUGAR for my coffee and all the sweets I love so much. I always thought CANE grew in the Wetlands of the deep south. Swamps, bijous, and such. That field doesn't look so wet. Seems like that JD is a pretty good machine for the job. sdh in CT
The fields can get quite muddy if there is a lot of rain. But you are correct, they plant in regular fields. Not anything like rice which grows in a wetland type environment under water.
You probably dont give a shit but does someone know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account? I was dumb lost the account password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
I was wondering that myself, but I can't remember. Probably because I was flying the drone back to save battery time and not really watching what he was doing.
The wagon is a hand planting wagon, not mechanical. Unfortunately I do not have video of it. I do however have a video of this same farm using their mechanical planters here: th-cam.com/video/4FhAqNjY0-0/w-d-xo.html
Bit late with my question, but I have only just found this video. Why do most of the trailers i've seen have what appears to be a fixed canopy at the rear of them, or is it actually a 'tailgate' that is propped up, - and if so why.? I would have thought to get the most in the best thing would be to shut the 'tail'.
@@AerialAg Ah, I wondered if it was going to be 'seed cane' in view of the area that had been cut in the field as it was 'whole stalk' and not machine chopped up. I thought they had 'automatic' trailers that do the planting from the front of the wagon, or are these an earlier type and this farm still prefers this way.
Just a thought, but could a header not be adapted to collect the canes into a bundle rather than dozing them into a bundle? A simple hydraulic drive header of sorts would do the trick and make for non stop collection and loading. Great video all the same 👍
that’s impressive to know that some guys continue manufacturing good machines, i would like to enroll in that world. and by the way, do you know how much earn a sugarcane operator..?

Nice, i always i have wanted to visit thibouthox, i love the life of the cane, the machines, loaders, harvesters etc. In fact, i operated several sugarcane loaders sometime, and I designed 3 diferents but that kind of machine, it's awesome, my respects. By the way that machine and the 1850 were CAMECO before, right? Do you know why was CAMECO sold to John Deere?
Around Thibodaux these wholestalk machines are used only for planting. All of the cane is harvested using combines. They still do some wholestalk harvesting around New Iberia and St Martinville though. Yes this used to be a Cameco design. From what I was told John Deere wanted to go into the sugarcane market and basically forced Cameco to sell out to them. I heard that JD said that if Cameco didn't sell out to them they'd build their own factory in Thibodaux and sell machines at a loss until they'd run Cameco out of business. Again, I can't say that's exactly what happened but its what I was told.
That unfortunately goes on a lot in business especially the 'grocery' trade. The supermarkets 'own brand' product, they dictate the price they will pay for a certain product and any company that is stupid enough to make it at that price gets the 'contract', - otherwise tough.
JD were looking to get into the 'cane machine' business and unfortunately their 'eye' fell on Cameco as being a firm that seemed to dominate that particular market. So as with all these 'Big Multinationals' they approached Cameco and asked if they would sell out to them, what the answer was I don't know. So JD bluntly told Cameco they would build a plant virtually next door and sell all their machines at a loss in order to force them to their knees and out of business. - Alas that is what happened and they reluctantly "Sold Out" to JD.
yammyharrone nah they don't dry sugarcane like other crops. They're loading plant cane here, this is not for harvest. However some farmers still use wholestalk harvesting because the maintenance is far less and they use a lot less diesel.
Interesting, but in my opinion JD doesn't have a lot of market, the machines are excellent but very expensive, possibly they have some market in Brazil but very little, and in some Central American countries, there is a lot of competition in machinery for sugarcane harvest, they are retaining a lot of machinery Cameco, like Mexico I've seen of 20 Camecos only 2 or 3 are JD, and obviously more brands than Cameco. And by the way what about Game ?? I don't know but I feel they are Cameco, they have a very good equipment and JD has not made changes to his sugarcane loaders, except the combine harvesters. Do you know Game? what do you think, maybe I'm wrong.
Yes, Game was started by some guys that left Cameco when JD took over. I'm no expert but it seems like they have quality equipment. I still see a good bit of JD cane loaders being produced at the factory.
si amigo estas mal informado , jd compro a cameco, y las que vez en mexico son inventos que no tiene ninguna comparacion con estas maquinarias que fueron creadas para este proposito , saludos
They make it look so easy. Good video.
bondoly66 This was the second video I ever made .. check out my new one from a few weeks ago.. much better quality !
Show de bola essa máquina
How much could this machine cost?
So way picking up cane from the ground like in this video compared to shopping it?

Where can I get info about machinery like this?
John Deere www.sunequip.com/about-us/locations/thibodaux/
Top movie. But what happened at 7:00. Why did they stop loading?
I was wondering that myself, but I can't remember. Probably because I was flying the drone back to save battery time and not really watching what he was doing.
very nice machine. the bagon that is loading is manufacturing of you ..? Could you shoot a video with the vagon planting?

Christopher Lovelock The cane in these wagons are planted by hand. The canopy gives the men pulling the cane a little shade from the sun.

Not sure, I just take pictures and video..I'm not a farmer.

why didnt they used a tracked harvester that cuts and loads? Good Video
Most of the farms in Louisiana still plant wholestalk cane. This loader was loading seed cane into cane planting wagons.
To dry the crop and control/reduce the moisture content I expect

Does J.D. make a rubber tire whole stalk harvester ?
No they do not
