However, now hearing Leo mention not to hang it upside down, makes me nervous, because i don't have another option in my current room, due to low ceilings and its placement. I hope its not that bad or have issues that slowly kill it overtime, because yea, this thing was the amount of a car and getting my wife's approval was key lol. Congratulations 🙌 you will love it. I highly recommend you create a folding shelf on your ceiling so the NZ800 can be placed on its feet . I had a few units replaced as little particles can fall onto the DILA chips when mounted upside down. Again this is my experience so I recommend to people not to do it. Enjoy your room with this amazing projector.

Yes at lens and can go past 0.007. High bright mode was 47k and calibrated perfect grayscale was 39k iris fully open no laser dimming . These machines are truly amazing. Best I have seen 😮.

To chime in here, Leo calibrates off the lens - he did measurements in high bright to verify the 100K:1 contrast as reported by JVC, however, to calibrate the projector, correcting grayscale and colours, he was able to get 39K:1 with no laser dimming - iris full open. High Bright is just to get the theoritcal capabilities without any calibration or autocal interfering with the raw output. You always lose brightness and contrast when everything is corrected. I'm sure Leo can clarify what I'm saying here in case I got anything wrong.

I’m looking to upgrade from my NX5 to NZ800, I have a 106inch AT screen ,Lumagen and use 3D. Is the black level a lot better than N5? My N5 is great but I think struggles on dark, murky sepia photography lik3 in Presumed innocent TV series , The Batman and Silo, thanks!

Would be interesting to stack two of the projectors them for added brightness to support even larger screen sizes for HDR, as you do lose brightness with the DCI-P3 filter calibration.
Yes, Leo doesn't use the filter as he explained in the video. But big screens I can't see why you can't overlay two together as they do in Dolby cinemas.
To confirm what Leo said. I am now on a 130" screen and only lost a few nits, BUT, I feel if I went bigger it would degrade quickly - inverse square law of light in effect!

My settings are based on the calibration, I run hdr laser at 66 and sdr at 46 - 8k e shift on, laser dimming on balanced- no cinema filter, MPC on high res 1 and enhancement on 2 . Deep black mode on for HDR . SDR gamma 2.4 . I hope this helps

Leo you don’t have to disclose this, but I am interested in how you sold your NZ8 to get the NZ800 as the used projector market in Australia is very small and depreciation on the JVCs from a previous gen to the next is pretty high ie. 50% or higher. BTW very nice room.

Yes, I was the first to get the Pro2 - which unfortunately meant that it had been on tour with the crew at a show, where i think possibly it had been damaged. So... I missed the early posting and so many have their reviews out HOWEVER I don't need to be first. My review will have actual calibration results done with a high end sensor, including brightness and contrast ratings and I will display the results unedited in the video. Unfortunately my unit had too many issues for me to do a review any justice. I won't air them all here, but sufficed to say it was the actual unit as none of the other reviewers had any of the issues mine had. I promise it's coming very soon as I have the tracking number. I will also be reviewing the ALR screen from Valerion as well so alls well that ends well :) Thanks for following my channel.
Its odd in the digital studio I was a camera man for a short stint they had a running joke for jvc just very crap its amazing how far they come Panasonic was always thought as best video cameras
Sorry guys I bought the Aurzen Boom 3 it projects on a 100'screen . It's 1080p with HDR10 very good picture Quality and Dolby audio sound brilliant. So cheap as well £275.00 with 3 years warranty. I have no regrets. I wouldn't spend on these high end projectors the competition is catching them up. I brought an Epsom some years ago I wouldn't again. Good video good to compare
I'm sorry but it's not possible to compare these two projectors, but I sincerely mean it, if you are happy with your new projector than that's awesome because that's the whole point of this hobby - enjoy it and enjoy watching movies!
I appreciate the review and it's obviously an amazing projector. However, in a room that small why not sit closer and get a 97" oled or even a 110/115" mini led if you're happy to spend that kind of money?
Good question- I love home theatre so a projector , screen with speakers behind it gives me the true home theater experience. I agree a massive OLED would be pretty cool too .
It's not a small room! It's a great sized room and 135" in cinema scope with the speakers behind it is pure cinematic heaven that a mere 100" screen can not deliver.
I had some bad experiences with mounting my units upside down - little particles inside the DILA chips can fall onto the chips and if big enough you will see them on the screen. I had a few units replaced by JVC and with the unit on its feet the problem went away. Anyway this is my experience so I thought it’s good to put it out there.
Leo's so rich I borrowed his Trinnov - it's actually his on a long term loan... jks :) We are a little crazy with how we save for years to afford these awesome toys.
The NZ700 loses the 8Keshift, 4K120fps and 3D capability with some of the ports at the back missing which are featured on the NZ800 and NZ900, to get the world's most compact native DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) resolution. Sony's XW projectors are smallest chips in 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution.
I guess its your camera but my JVC rs440 looks much better on john Wick 4 - yours seems to not resolve the black levels down as low as mine you are missing low level detail - again Its prob just the camera limitations - point is I paid $2400 CDN for an image that equals or exceeds yours and i paid 1/10 the money
It resolves fine, the camera sensor can only take in so much light, and that specific scene does actually go quite dark, there are similar ones 20 seconds later which illuminate his face more. But yeah, I did a disclaimer before the demos if you recall. I can only show the best that my camera can record off a screen - decent camera though it is will never show what the eyes see. Try recording your screen and you will see how difficult it is :)
Yeah I know the FOMO is real, but the colours on the NP5 are awesome and 2 minutes to warm up is a good compromise for not losing a lot of money selling the NP5 and coughing up the cash for an NZ800!

@@BuildMontage HUH, weird. And yes I was serious since normally I associate them with mediocre audio products. Normally when I think quality projectors I thin Epson or Sony. I didn't even know they had a VISUAL SIDE to their company.
Oh really! Well, JVC are VERY highly regarded in the home theatre niche for having the best quality black levels and their projectors range from 10K all the way to $40K AUD.. if you look at most TH-camrs in this niche we have JVC. I am about to drop the NZ700 review tonight and it is a $15K AUD projector - beats the Sony easily!
@@BuildMontage HMM might be cheaper to import it then, since it's 16k in the US. I did that with a beringer sound mixer where I got it for 100 US cheaper from a german site, and they had free shipping, and came in 3 days. It was weird.
Thank you for making this video Tony and Leo! I just recently began using the NZ-800 myself and I love it. Just like Leo, it is like the solution to all the minor problems I've had with previous projectors. The best advice I could give during my usage is to get LLDV working on it, since I like streaming and so much of the content is in Dolby Vision. The calibration was done for rec709 and discussed in the video. Definitely he uses HDR. In my case I only use SDR and a MadVR video processor to do HDR to SDR tonemapping using pixelshaders. It's insane how good HDR content can look on SDR if done this way.

Yes contrast and ANSI is a lot better . My nx7 had 24k:1 and 230 ansi and my NZ800 has 39k and 405 ansi .

Tony, what max. Screen size would you recommend for the NP5 ?
120-130inch woven AT screen should still give you about 70 -110 nits . Other screen materials might be better so you can go bigger.

4k pixel shift that turns into 8k? How does it look with a 1080p bluray? Does it still double?
Remember the projector’s resolution is 4K so it’s upscaling it to 4 k and then shifting the pixels 4 ways to get full 8k resolution.
The NZ8 did not look that more better with 8k but the NZ800 looks unbelievable with it on and razor sharp .
My UHZ50 after color tuning provides best picture specially when 16:256 grayscale.

@@SuperRomy09I would recommend after about 20 hours but might be ok straight away as laser is extremely stable. Screen is woven 0.8 gain .
What is the problem with mounting them upside down?
The position of the chips, if dust gets in and lands on them it can create noise in the image.
@@BuildMontage I thought the NZ800 had a sealed optical path, so dust can't land on the chips.

I use Panasonic cameras (used one for this video) but JVC Kenwood projectors are honestly insanely good!

I dont mind losing a few of those features for the laser and the extra contrast and brightness. My NP5 can't do those anyway :)

@@BuildMontage HUH, weird. And yes I was serious since normally I associate them with mediocre audio products. Normally when I think quality projectors I thin Epson or Sony. I didn't even know they had a VISUAL SIDE to their company.
Oh really! Well, JVC are VERY highly regarded in the home theatre niche for having the best quality black levels and their projectors range from 10K all the way to $40K AUD.. if you look at most TH-camrs in this niche we have JVC. I am about to drop the NZ700 review tonight and it is a $15K AUD projector - beats the Sony easily!
@@BuildMontage HMM might be cheaper to import it then, since it's 16k in the US. I did that with a beringer sound mixer where I got it for 100 US cheaper from a german site, and they had free shipping, and came in 3 days. It was weird.
Thank you for making this video Tony and Leo! I just recently began using the NZ-800 myself and I love it. Just like Leo, it is like the solution to all the minor problems I've had with previous projectors. The best advice I could give during my usage is to get LLDV working on it, since I like streaming and so much of the content is in Dolby Vision. Hang on, $25k and you don't use HDR on it? Ie only rec709
Yes I do use hdr.
The calibration was done for rec709 and discussed in the video. Definitely he uses HDR. In my case I only use SDR and a MadVR video processor to do HDR to SDR tonemapping using pixelshaders. It's insane how good HDR content can look on SDR if done this way.
