I’m using your products, watched almost every video to DIY a french drain in Texas. I’m doing 100ft each side of my house. Did the first side last year and doing the other side right now. The french drain works better now than last year. Digging rocky/clay soil (200ft in total) by hand using a pickaxe is painful but almost done!

Some things are worth paying for. You could rent a trencher and have the hole dug in 3 hours. If it's rocky it is worth paying someone with a skid steer to dig it in one day.

⁠​⁠​⁠@@Happydad491 yes, of course I checked that. Trencher is a no go due to sprinkler, gas, fiber cables underneath even after getting them marked. Also they don’t provide enough width and create a massive mess (pile of dirt) afterwards. Some rocks as big as over 12” wide, heavy as 30-40lbs were dug out.
Skid steer doesn’t work due to fences between both side of neighbors’ houses. Most new subdivisions in Texas only have 10-12ft between houses so these equipment don’t fit unless I take down fences (HOA issue, need agreement from many parties, cost to take down and replace). Yeah, every digging, landscaping contractor turned down the job around the area unless I take down fences.

My backyard is a bowl unfortunately and is lower than the front yard. I have no way to move the water out short of adding 12” of soil to my backyard so the water flows elsewhere.

Question, and apologies in advance if you showed it in the video and I missed it. I know you ran the solid pipe into the storm drain at the street, but what did you do with the end of the perf-pipe that is acting as your french drain? I didn't see where it ended on the side of the house or if it ran to the street as well or did you eventually tie the 2 perf-pipes into the solid pipe to get that water to the storm drain as well? Thanks!!

I live on a hill. How do I fix a new, steep slope, concrete driveway that is washing out on its edges? I live in Western PA. on soil that is clay. Will a French Drain along its edges fix the washout problem? I have been advised to wait five months until Fall to plant grass. Spring rains wash away grass seed and fertilizer.

You have to meander the driveway. You literally have to move your driveway. Water wants to run in a straight line. So if you meander the driveway, you won't have nearly the problem with washout. I've seen this many times. To leave it the way it is, you have to put in large stones, what's known as riprap.

These are 6" grates, not 4" grates. The turf restrictors that you've been seeing are on 4-inch grates.
BTW, turf plates for 6" will be available in early July. 🤫
