Was inevitable especially after the Raiders and Warriors left. If Oakland wasn't going to get an arena/stadium deal done for the 2 more profitable franchises, it was obvious they werent going to do it for the A's. Had the team spent money on ANY of their homegrown talent over the years (outside of Chevy, who's back imploded about 2 years into his long term extension), they mightve won a ring or two.. but having said that, the Warriors won 3 titles in Oakland, and still, no deal lol.
@@dre32pitt There is plenty of capacity here at the existing place. It doesn't make sense for the local taxpayers to cover all of the costs for expensive stadiums, and then have the team owners make all of the money. Most people can't even afford to go to a pro game anymore, so there is no incentive. Who cares if there is pro team here anyway? They provide literally nothing to the community, just cost.
All comment sections for all clips of Moneyball have the same vibe... people have a real connection to this movie, many of whom are not necessarily baseball fans. So what is it? I think it is the fact the movie is REALLY about appreciating people for their contribution and not rejecting them for biases. It's "the island of misfit toys."

Football is a more fluid sport than baseball with a lot more factors that determine outcomes. Maybe there aren't as many player attributes being discounted in modern-day football as there was in baseball in the 90's. And football has already embraced a more stats-based approach than where baseball was when Paul joined the A's. Just look at the increase in the number of times teams go for it on fourth down. That's a result of a more statistics-based way of thinking
Yes, Moneyball doesn’t work in football because, unlike baseball, nobody in football (outside of kickers) performs entirely in isolation. It’s always the team working together. DePodesta should’ve stayed in baseball, and the Browns should have fired him by now.
The problem with using stats analysis in football is the much smaller sample size. Football teams play 17 games a year; baseball teams play nearly ten times as many in the same period. So, you get a much better average for a baseball player's performance due to larger numbers. A starting outfielder will come to the plate 4-500 times a year; a running back might; only the top RBs in the league will get half as many carries in a single season, and the top defensive players won't even sniff that number of tackles. Football isn't a game that can be predicted based on averages the way baseball can.
He built you a winning football team. Then your owner decided to sign Deshaun Watson to that ridiculous contract and give up a ton in picks to get him.
814 (not 819) runs across all 162 games (5.02 runs per game). Not 814 runs in the 99 wins. What he is saying is that across 162 games, if they score 814 runs and give up 645 runs, they should win 99 games and make the playoffs.

I never played baseball as a kid, and rarely watch it now. But this movie just gets me. This, and 61*.
So the laptop next to the desktop representing something new replacing something old was a nice touch i never noticed before.
Moneyball hits even harder now that the A's aren't in Oakland
We can thank Davis for them being gone due to his stunts.
I still can't get my head around the Colts not being in Baltimore.

This blew my mind. Hadn’t heard they moved out. Been out of the bay for 20 years so blows my mind a city that had 3 professional teams now has none
As a musician I am impressed with the music. It's sparse and sets the mood perfectly.
really reminiscent of The Social Network's score, which came out just a year earlier

Great observation.
Well said.

That’s the first baseball he’s ever touched , lol
Never seen a video where they use the actors names in the title
The stress of trying to impress Brad Pitt is why Jonah Hill is skinny now
ngl I'm kinda tired of these movie clip channels using actor names instead of the characters lol. It defeats the point kind of..
I love this true life movie. What I love even more is the A's haven't won shit in decades. Go Dodgers!
814 runs? in 162 games? 5 runs, every game.....bit of a stretch
steeevvveeee madddennn.
The Sumerians gave us civilization. The Athenians gave us democracy. The Americans gave us baseball. Let's call it a tie.
Fair enough. We’ve seemingly left civilization and democracy behind anyway.
This comment should be on every highway in America. Well said.
Imagine having this algorithm for some parlays 👀😂
what do you think the online casinos are doing?
Crappy inkjet printer. Yep, day po
So this guy (Paul Depodesta) is who we are counting on to build us a winning football team? He's failed so far.

This has turned the games into boring-to-watch sports now. The NBA is a 3-point contest and the NFL as well.
His calculations to make the playoffs was 99 wins with 819 runs.
THAT’S 8.2 RUNS PER GAME!!!
