Firstly ,great review of the Vitara Strong Hybrid,first in the English speaking Caribbean if im not mistaken. Firstly I had a conversation with someone a year or so ago about the purchasing decisions by dealers for Suzuki in the region. The Caribbean market doesnt get all the fancy stuff for one main reason,cost. Many customers cant afford the features such as the proper hybrids and not the crap 12v I see them bringing in the market now ,also the Vitara is sourced in Hungary by Barbados and thats an additional cost and not Japan. Currently in the Caribbean the variant of the vitara on offer is the non hybrid with the good and faithful M16A engine thats more powerful than the K15C used in the model you drove. Also they use the AGS for fuel savings because they have strict fuel efficiency norms in Europe and the 6 speed torque converter on offer is not as fuel efficient. Personally I wouldnt drive the strong hybrid,what I would take instead is the mild hybrid with the 1.4l boosterjet engine with the 6 speed auto. you get Suzukis most exciting engine with some fuel savings and a bigger trunk with a spare wheel.
Well said i have to agree with everytjing you said here becasue you seem to know alot about these cars.. Im in trinidad and i bought a vitara fully loaded but minus the hybrid and all grip features non turbo as well but it has the M 16A engine that seems to me to be very willing and reliable and delivers a decent amount of torque which makes it feels almost like an 1800 or 2000 cc displacement.. I drove the 2008 grand vitara that has the J20 A engine and it dont even feel as zippy as the smaller vitara with the M 16A engine..
Some these were sold in Barbados last year. For some reason the salesman for the used car company discouraged from purchase and I don't think they brought back in any more. I think it had to do with how the AGS works compared to a traditional auto.
Ive got the same model vitara i bought it locally from lifestyle motors .. But this 1 you displaying here is carrying the name (escudo) which means this was for another market & was brought here through the foreign used market.. But i would say that in terms of exterior & interior design, compare to other makes and models the vitara may fall behind, & also in performance as well, as you rightfully said . But i believe that suzuki wanted to design a small compact cross over that is more on an aspect of simplicity that makes a less expensive more affordable crossover suv.. In terms of transmission performance in my opinion the first & second gear tend to take longer to change carrying the engine RPM to 2000 revs and above where as the 3rd , 4th, 5th, & 6th gears operates smoothly with 1000 & 2000 RPM with moderate acceleration only..
The best is old school. Low emissions and sipping gasoline with a big six and all. Little wear after years on suspension components. Handling deep craters. And low maintenance. No worries at the gas station, your wallet will still be full. Bank account never empty.
Would love to see a video weighing the pros and cons of gasoline vs hybrid vehicles.
