- Looking for tips on how to get into OT school? In this video I cover OT school requirements and things that I feel helped me get into OT programs. Although these tips are specific to OT programs I believe that they can apply to anyone trying to get into any program/school :)

This video was extremely helpful I feel like most “tip videos” hit on obvious things that don’t really help but this was FULL of info I didn’t even know I needed and I feel like now I will be more prepared once I’m done with undergrad

Hi! I’m going to be a freshman in college this coming fall and I’m very excited about doing OT when the time comes. I’ll be majoring in psychology. I can say that your channel is extremely inspiring and I thank you sooo much for the tips and advice you’ve given us all. If you could, I’d really love to see a video where you can give tips on what clubs or specific activities we can do in our undergraduate years to help us get a better chance of getting into OT school.

This was very helpful! Thank you for this video. When do you starting shadowing what year during your undergrad ? Did you call places and asked to shadow?
no problem! Glad I could help :) I started shadowing my sophomore year of undergrad. I looked up places around where I live and called them asking if they are willing to take students to shadow an OT!

I have a question on the shadowing hours part. I’ve been under a PT for a while with over 400 hours. I have realized that I may actually be interested in OT instead. Can I use that to my advantage for OT school?

Will two W’s in none prerequisites prevent me from getting into OT school?
When you did you shadow work and community service , how did you track those hours ?
My school offers a dual BS/MS degree
is it possible for colleges to except you even tho you don't have all of the pre reqs done:/ ????
What is the GRE test for?
D’Youville College in Buffalo ny accepts you into their 5 or 6 year MS or OTD program as a freshman in college ( right out of High school). You actually start learning OT theory and practice year 1. I honestly don’t understand why other schools expect you to get a 4 year BS degree, then apply to a 3 year graduate school that you may not even get into.

I have a mechanical engineering bachelor's. and am studying rehabilitation master's. can anyone help me with how I can become an OT? what are the steps? I'm very lost. how should I even start. my supervisor keeps on telling me I can't do it although I have a very good GPA.
I am applying to OT school in the fall and I am just like you in the way I am an average student. Do you mind sharing your GPA? I am feeling defeated competing with 4.0's when I am an average A/B student.
Are all the schools listed in the description accredited OT schools? Or are they just simply the ones where the GRE isn't required and are not accredited?
So I want to be an OT and I’m looking at degrees and I’ve focused on Exercise Science. So would you suggest for a Bachelors Degree
rather than an Associates?
Hi Hayden! Exercise Science is a good choice! Some of my classmates majored in it and they thought it was helpful in OT school. And as of now you need a bachelors to be able to apply to OT school! Unless you want to be an OTA, which in that case a bachelors is not needed :)

I am a junior undergrad psych student and I plan on applying this summer.
Is that the best way to do it? I know multiple schools are rolling deadlines and they encourage you to get it all turned in ASAP. However this scares me… I feel like I won’t be ready to submit everything as soon as applications open but I also don’t want to wait and be overlooked.
Can you please give me any advice you have on the timeline of OTCAS/applying process?
Do you apply to OT school a year in advance? I’m a junior so would I apply at the beginning of my senior year?
Madi W yes!! So I began applying September 2017 to be admitted for fall 2018 😊
I graduate in the fall and I start applying to OT schools from this summer up until January or march depending on the schools... but this coronavirus thing has gotten in the way with so much it makes me sad. I haven't fulfilled all my observation hours, i have no idea who i'll ask for a recommendation for and i have no idea if ill still be able to take the GRE. ugh but thank for this video very informative.

I'm in my last semester of OT school and our summer fieldworks are still up in the air. They might be postponed which will delay us being able to take the Boards and getting a job.. Hopefully things get sorted out soon for the both of us! Hope you're staying safe and healthy
ItsCristalJ that sucks 😭 I hate that this happened right now smh. Also do you have any suggestions on trying to get an internship centered around OT or that would look good on your resume/application when applying? I’m an exercise science major and all the internships they recommend are PT related 🥺 I was thinking maybe interning with special needs kids but I wish i had more ideas
@@stac1465 yeah I feel you /: And interning with PTs is actually not a bad idea because its a related area and most OTs work very closely with PTs! But if you want more ideas you can try to look into hippotherapy if you have access to it! This would look great on a resume since not a lot of people think about shadowing or doing hours in that area. Other than that you can try sensory gyms, summer camps for kids with special needs (I think this is the easiest to get since there's so many), and hand therapy clinics. I know a lot of my classmates were also rehab aides in hospitals before coming to OT school! :)

Where did you track your shadowing?
There are actually some programs that have a sheet that you're supposed to print out and have your shadowing placements sign.. not many do though. I would usually just ask the cite I shadowed if they could write me a note saying how many hours I completed with them :)

Did you have classmates that had somewhat unrelated bachelors degree? (Ex. I graduated with healthcare administration, but I know most people that go into OT graduated with psych/kinesiology)

I went to OT school many years ago. (Still love it after 28yrs!). My undergrad major was zoology. I had classmates with degrees in psychology, art, speech therapy, recreation therapy, etc. Study what you love and you can't go wrong.

lol applying there! I sucked at my SAT and any standard tests😭 I’m a RN wanting to transition to OT learned so much from your channel!
ItsCristalJ would you say Columbia is worth the expensive tuition? And was it competitive/difficult to get in?
@@sherrylin7041 Honestly I don't think any program is worth how expensive it is lol but I saw it as an investment in my future. At orientation they told us that they received over 500 applicants and accepted 54.. each year it gets more and more competitive but as long as you show that you're passionate about this profession you can get in :)
So they reviewed my application and invited me for a virtual interview. Any tips for the virtual interview process? Mine is on November 20th
