    It’s a fine, a punishment. Council tax is right and proper to provide services for communities. Doubling council tax is a punishment. Punitive tax never was a good idea and never will be

    It's attractive to councils ...they'll make more money ...youngsters won't be able to afford these homes if second home owners were to sell. .they'd bd left empty

      But second homes are left empty for the majority of the time anyway. That's part of the reason for charging more for them. Sure, local people cannot afford them, but the main reason why they are so expensive is that they are being bought because they are cheap to use as a holiday home. Make them expensive to leave empty and slowly but surely the price will stabilise. Obviously it won't happen overnight, but something needs to be done to help small villages survive and not become ghost villages.

      No one has a given right to live in the place they were born. I am a Londoner and Londoners and their families were priced out years ago with successive waves of people wanting to live there. I don’t see many London councils applying this tax.
