    The human animal is a quite a creature...imagine you are Barney and Hooky...you watch and revisit the truly transcendent things you did together, and cannot find a way to forgive each other...just a terrible shame for the rest of us...thank you both for the incredible gifts

      Animal says it best. Listen to the opening monologue by Charlton Heston from the original planet of the apes.
      It speaks to what you are saying.
      Hard to say what’s worse - hating each other over money or artistic differences 🤷🏼‍♂️
      Just seems so lame after all they not only survived but created together.

    it’s so cool to hear the influence that joy division’s sound had on new order’s early music, but it’s hard to not imagine what it would’ve sounded like with ian in the mix. you can visibly see the pain or sense of loss on everyone’s faces still. the first few performances for them, especially in america, where they should’ve been with ian all along, must’ve been rough. but like this song says… dreams never end.

    • @ubellubo
      @ubellubo หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ Technically Ian Curtis is not a "good" singer. He has a limited range. No training. He is not versatile. What Ian Curtis does works in the context of Joy Division and punk /post-punk. This is not a controversial take. Don't get me wrong. I love the way Ian Curtis sounds, but that is because of Joy Divisions artistic choices. They created a context that worked for Joy Division and helped them created a unique sound. He is not alone. There are quite a few singer, especially in British post-punk who have are equally limited singing voices . Morrissey for example or Ian Brown from the Stone Roses. Both great artists, who use their voices in an interesting way.

    I’ve long found this song a very fitting and appropriate beginning to not just an album, but to an entirely new era of the band’s history-a metamorphosis, if you will. What’s more, it’s also a not so thinly veiled tribute to their fallen friend and bandmate, Ian Curtis. A true statement of perseverance if ever there was one…

    A gem. I still think this is probably the best song they ever did. The way it begins slowly and transitions...the guitars and bass fusing into a distinct voice...growing more and more furious-still gets me. Intro, main body, crescendo...I've listened to this repeatedly and never tired of it.

      It's funny that as time marches on, many bands whose music bore no resemblance to one another at the time, in retrospect seem to share very similar techniques. It's the nature of proximity in time, and the fact that of course everyone (bands) was listening to each other, borrowing and stealing, and co-inspiring. Few years back, I noticed how similar some of the rhythmic mannerisms of DEVO and Talking Heads sounded curiously alike. At the same time, their whole musical programs couldn't have been more different.

  • @michaelburk9171
