Both sides need to heal first of all. Compromise needs to return to politics but I doubt the original GOP will ever return. Both sides are now being mainly pushed by their most passionate (radical) supporters: Religious Right vs “Progressives.” The GOP has become the party of restoration just as the democrats have become the party of transformation.
