    As soon as you open the hood the problem is obvious, look at the state of the wiring.

    One of the coil wires was too close to the tower. Move wire away from tower, problem fixed! No more grounding.

    You really should Mount that coil vertically as they are oil filled and laying them down on the side like that will cause them to overheat and fail prematurely. They describe that in the instruction manual

    So if I'm not getting spark from the coil wire but I touch the screwdriver and it shocks me a little does that mean my coil is good and my MSD is bad?

      not sure never been shocked by it

    Obviously neither the MSD 6a box or distributor was not the problem.

    This video tested nothing towards the 6A. This specifically tested for ignition spark only. Your problem was with your connecting wires on your coil which grounded out

      this is how MSD states how to test a box. I just made a video to make it easier for people to understand. If you have another way to test it perhaps you could let the engineers at MSD know.

    Wow great video the problem that I have that my car starts up once it warms up it turns off so I'm trying to figure maybe is the MSD box as bad let me know right back to me please

      I had that problem too. They seem to maybe be heat sensitive. If you could mount it in the passenger compartment or a cooler location would be best. Mine was on the top fenderwell under hood of my truck. It got really hot. Once it quit so I yanked it and just went regular electronic ign. I tested the box a couple years later and seemed to work. I had the bypass standoffs on the coil to go back to regular ign. Once I put the jumpers on it fired right up.

    So if the msd box has power and the light comes on but you have no power going to the coil. Would that indicate the msd is bad?

    I have a 74 f100 where did you tie in your 12v switched wire off the 6al box?

    • @vincemajestyk9497
      @vincemajestyk9497 ปีที่แล้ว

      You 'normally' take it off of the original '+' feed to the coil. If you have a ballast or resistor wire you can bypass it but they say it should work down to 9v.

    COULD YOU HAVE WIRED YOUR BOX TO A POWER SUPPLY THAT BECOMES HOT WHEN YOU TURN ON YOUR KEY ? WHEN IT REQUIRES TO BE WIRED DIRECTLY TO THE BATTERY FOR A CONSTANT 12 VOLTS AS IT SHOWS ON THE BACK OF THE BOX ? IM NO EXPERT , BUT IF I HAD TO GUESS I WOULD SAY YOU HAVE INSTALLED YOUR SYSTEM WRONG ... JUST SAYN' , I WOULDNT WANT SOMEONE TO ''KEY ON'' A ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP AND START ARCING AROUND UNDER A HOOD . WELL , GOOD LUCK AND BE SAFE

      my box receives its power from the battery but the ignition switch allows the power to power the box. Had it wired this way for 13 years.

    I need some help. I have a 69 GTX that is switched over to all MSD. I'm running a 6201 6 A box. I went to load my GTX on hauler and it wouldn't start. My box is getting power into it but no power out to the coil. I live in Southern California and would like to know if anyone out there knows a place that does MSD box repair in my area. Area code 91761 Ontario Calif. We are moving and don't have a forwarding address so sending it to MSD won't work.

      Open the box. If you see the board encased in epoxy, throw it away. You can't repair it. If it doesn't have it, any shop can repair it

    What was the fix?

    • @D-Mayor
      @D-Mayor 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He had the one wire on the coil grounding out to the coil wire tower, simply moved it away & it fixed it.
      He was bitching at MSD for a problem he caused with his own install.
