  • Tatooine is an Outer Rim planet and as such, while it plays a major role in Star Wars, not much is known about its layout. Today, we get out the map and breakdown where the points of interest on the planet are located, from Mos Espa to Anchorhead.

    So I did a bit of research, the Sahara desert has about 2 MILLION people mostly in nomadic groups
    Taking the square miles of the Sahara and placing it on the northern tatooine- it’s entirely reasonable tatooine could have 50 million people spread out and centered in some of its cities
    Still not anything like earth or even a fair chunk of countries but not exactly empty

Also some planets would lend their own forces to the republic like the Wookies and Mandalorians... Clone legions (10 thousand clones) weren't deployed on mass they were divided by Companies, Battalion, Brigade and Regiments... For example the 501st could be at Geonosis with 2~3 and in Fellucia with another 2~3 battalions and still have enough force to reinforce and join new theaters.

    If Tatoonie is around 80% the size of Earth then it has a circumference of about 32,000km. With Ben's house to the Lar's homestead being around 130km (8:05), the map in this video is showing about the same amount of area as Belgium would on the Earth's map. There is whole lot more to the planet even if only the northern hemisphere is inhabited.

      @@oliviaw.2842 I feel like Han Solo saying "that's not how the Force works" right now.
      We know the Jedi had some minor amount of precognition as well as a certain degree of sensing when things were off, but even with those abilities I imagine Kenobi would still want to be close so that if danger *did* come he could act quickly. He doesn't appear to own a speeder, hates flying so that would rule out any sort of aircraft, and made a point of not using his Force powers in any visible way which would certainly prevent him using it to run quickly.
      My point here is that even if he could sense danger, he couldn't act on it in a reasonable amount of time if he's living some 130 kilometres away. That would still take some time to travel even if he had a vehicle, and days if he was on foot. We know he acted when Black Krrsantan attacked but he didn't do much when the Storm Troopers turned up to kill Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, so unless he specifically let them die its fair to say he probably should have been closer so he could act sooner.

    I think "Book of Boba Fett" makes this map no longer valid. The biggest issue I can point to is that Mos Espa is apparently within easy walking distance from Jabba/Boba's palace. Boba always seems to be walking to town, but even if you presume he takes a speeder part of the way, Chapter 2 shows Fennec Shand bringing the captured assassin back to the palace on foot.

    Judging by your maps, Mos Pelgo seems to be Northeast or so from Espa. It seems Pelly's map is inverted with Eisley on the top and Espa on the bottom. Following her scrolling of the map would put the town in that direction. This would also account for her saying "up over here" in the dialogue.

    Early sources and reference books placed Jabba's Palace on the edge of the Western Dune Sea near Wayfar. Eversince the complete locations came out - which originally came out in 2004 (Original trilogy release), not 2016, it has since been placed near the Northern Dune Sea. I've been figuring out maps of Tatooine for at least 2 years now and I'm actively illustrating my own book with detailed drawings of settlements, based both on Canon and legends. There is a science fiction prediction that if habitable planets are abundant and space travel fast and cheap people will spread out. The planets never really fill up. Once you feel pressured by something; war, taxes, rules you go to a remote corner of the planet or find an empty planet. The exception is of course the capital world like Coruscant. A capital draws in people, rich and poor, that want to be close to power.

    An interesting video with some places I'd never heard of. However, this map is just no longer consistent with what we now know. TBOBF heavily implies that Jabba's Palace is in the greater Mos Espa metro area. Tour map has Jabba's Palace too far away from Mos Espa. Also, if Ben Kenobi's House is as close to Mos Espa as your map indicates, then surely Luke would have offered to take Ben there instead of Anchorhead to get a transport (to Mos Eisley or wherever it is he was going!)

    Tatooine is my favorite planet in the Star Wars galaxy. So much has happened there! Pod Racing, Anakin's home, Mos Eisley Cantina, Docking bay 94, jaba, Mandalorian stuff, boba fett stuff. Man, I wish disney would build a Tatooine Land where we can visit and experience all we have seen in these Star wars movies. Kinda like how Universal made a Harry potter land where you can visit stuff from the harry potter movies.

    You forgot to mention the Eastern Dune Sea. When you were going over Anchorhead would've been a good time to.
    "Not much is known about what can be found there. Aside from the fact that a tribe of Sand People more aggressive that the one near Anchorhead makes its home there. There is also a cave where a Krayt Dragon once made its home, despite not being native to the area. And in this cave, could be found sparse remains of an ancient empire long forgotten."

    After Roleplaying in the Star Wars universe since the mid-late 80's refreshing to see more content in the Star Wars universe being brought up. Mos Pelgo would be supposedly located in the Northern Hemisphere of Tatooine (as it says in the description). My guess is that Mos Pelgo would be on the other side of the Dune Sea or above Mos Espa... 500km. If you consider that the likes of Mos Espa are the most North of all the cities that we know of near Mos Eisely then Pelgo is much further North. Consider Mos Eisely in the Dakota's or Germany area, and Pelgo would be in Canada-Alaska, or Iceland Murmansk respectively.

    With such repetition, what would be an approximate translation for "MOS"? Town? Refuge? Camp? Station?

    • @Tahemus
      @Tahemus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      More than likely, it would probably be akin to real world cities that contain "los" (Angeles) and "San" (Francisco). Lucas grew up in CA where many cities had similar naming conventions.
      I haven't heard of any canon translation, but some people also speculate it might be shorthand for the word "moisture" as moisture farming is common there, and so perhaps cities included it in their names to let travelers know they had water! And over time it was shortened to "mos"

    • @Celebmacil
      @Celebmacil 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Maybe "Port" would be the best approximation, though I do like the idea of it being a corruption of "moisture"... though still probably indicating a meaning of "port". As for the 'comparison', I'd say it's more like the usage of Spanish "Ciudad" rather than Los or San. But it could also be similar to Arabic Al- and Abu- and such.

      Well, if we look to Earth's own example, Mos Def, it just means Most (and Def is Deaf with one letter removed). Using this logic, Mos Espa must mean Most Vespa as they have the most Vespa gangs on Tatooine.

    When I first saw the trailer for the show, I was shocked. Mos Espa on the show looks very similar to my guilds player city, Mos Nihil, which was built in the giant crater North of Mos Espa and west of the Krayt Graveyard in SW Galaxies. The city looks 80% like our city, enough so that I wonder if someone on the show played Galaxies and was inspired by our city. It was one of the more popular cities on our server (Bria) and defiantly had a unique feel being built inside the crater. Was a bit disappointed when I watched the show and they were saying it was Mos Espa. For a couple weeks, I was wondering if they were going to make our city cannon...

    What about Fort Tusken? Or was that only canon to Star Wars Galaxies?

    • @GenerationFilms
      @GenerationFilms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Star Wars never really makes this clear but almost everything Tusken Raider-related takes place in or is located in the Jundland Wastes. According to Legends, Fort Tusken is on the northern edge of the Wastes but that's still a fairly sizeable area. Nonetheless, if accurate, it's probably somewhere not too far from Ben Kenobi's house.
