Just caught your channel about a month ago and I've been binge watching it since. I don't know if someone has replied to you yet but Yul played Rameses II on "The 10 Commandments" or Rameses the Great. Seti was his father and Rameses I was his grandfather.

I carried Mr. Brynner twice on flights I was working, he was traveling with his last wife. He could not have been more gracious, self deprecating and just wonderful. He wanted my name first of all and used it throughout the flights. Warned us with his distinctive but diminished voice about smoking. He carried his on Fresca soda's and had me put them on ice for him. Both occasions he was gentle, amusing and Wonderful which I already said, but I mean it. One of my greatest moments flying.

An unusually attractive and charismatic man, especially in the Rameses role (and outfits). What a voice; what a gaze; what presence; what an actor. Unforgettable.

I have had a crush on Yul Brynner since I first saw him in the film version of the King and I. I wept buckets when he died in the film. I have loved the look of a bald head ever since I saw his. He was fantastically sexy and incredibly handsome. I was just a mere child when he was at the height of his fame. Has any other mongolian/russian/hungarian every become such a superstar in history? I can't think of one person who has. He was incredible and it is such a shame he died the way he did. Such a sad ending to a truly amazing actor. They just don't make them like that any more. Rest in Peace Yul Brynner, you were incredible. What a loss.
I agree, Miss Carly. When it was broadcast on t.v. that Yul had passed, my ex-husband came into our bedroom, knelt beside the bed and, very gently told me. I cried off and on for days. My thoughts are with you and all of Mr. Brynner's fans.

I was little when Yul played Ramses,and I got my first crush.Then,he went on to absolutely cement that when I saw The King and I. THEN,..I saw Kings of the Sun,and I was even more lost.I was 9 then. In moccasins,fringed buckskin pants,and nothing else.He was just beautiful. Strutting as he always did.
Absolutely magnificent!
He shaved his head for the role of The King, and then kept it that way full time. He was 23 the first time he played The King. When he reprised the role for stage in the 70's, he was in his 50's. He said now he could now identify with the King better and give his performances more depth. I saw him live at the Pantages in Hollywood in the 70's. I will never, ever forget it.
His PSA was dramatic and highly impactful. It should still be aired.

I first came a cross Yul Brynner as a child on television in Anna And The King from 1972 , a short lived series that really deserved a much longer run. Remember this show fondly...

He was a terrific actor, too.
My grandfather came from the Czech Republic in what was then Bohemia and was named Julius. He went by Yula as a nickname especially with his Czech family and friends. He also went by Jules, Julian, Julie. When he finally retired he had to go back to the old country to get his baptismal record to prove who he was. He didn’t have a birth certificate which I guess was not unusual? My grandfather was an actor in Cleveland, Ohio and he was a bit of a con man/salesman for most of his life. His family came to the States in the early turn of the century and things were very different back then. You could invent yourself and bullshit yourself through a lot of things. It was a Bohemian gypsy life in a way. I wonder if he found Yule Brenner to be an “influencer”.

He was well schooled by his upbringing to become the actor he was. Handsome, talented, well educated and charismatic. I wish I could watch all his movies again.
Yul's mother took his elder sister, Vera (January 17, 1916 - December 13, 1967), and him to Harbin, China, where they attended a school run by the YMCA.
I loooved him. His presence......his gait.....his self-assurance A MAN'S MAN. When asked who would be in your wish list of.......Yul Brynner, Gregory Peck, Sean Connery and others i can quite recall now.....But Yul Brynner stole my heart during my childhood....in the 10 Commandments......and the subsequent films he made. I loooved him. What a personality!
He was always one of my favorite actors. He was a kind & caring person. I just loved him. He was such an unusual & intelligent person. So talented ❣️

Yul is one of those People Of Unknown Origin - like Anthony Quinn (Mexican) who can play, very well, just about any nationality.
Lou Diamond Philips as well.
Anthony Quinn was part Native American and some European per his autobiography if I'm not mistaken, read it a few months ago.

What a great video ... as always. I've ALWAYS thought that Yul Brynner was, and still is, THE SEXIEST man. It's been my great fortune to see him twice, on stage, in "The King And I." The second time I saw him, my seat was 6th row center. And there was a 20 minute standing ovation at the end. I have an autographed photo of him, as well. Thank you! Thank you!! See the very brief anti-smoking clip made in the '60s by the actor William Talman who was on the verge of dying from lung cancer. He had been a heavy smoker until it caught up with him.
I think people from that era didn't have hindsight enough to realize the consequences of smoking. ( Just like for drugs, it was the cool thing to do ).Just in the movies, they smoked like dragoons so in their private lives, I can't even imagine...🙄

I was fortunate enough to see Yul Brynner in The King and I on stage in Cincinnati Ohio before he passed away I had always loved this actor and was so happy to have this experience something i wiill always cherish.
I was born in Vladivostok, their family home still stands till this day. And it’s so beautiful that as a child I thought it was a museum. 😊

He's the definition of "magnetism", he attracts *everyone* . As a child I was mesmerized by him! The King and I and Ten Commandments were TV events because of him. As a teen I loved The Gunslinger, pure Bryner genius. Liked your homage to his silent screen actor skills there. As a young adult I remember the Don't Smoke video...it was shocking and sad.
I think he's at his young Bryner finest in Port of New York. It's jarring to see him with hair 😄 he really made bald sexy! Thanks for the memories!

He was a gracious man and was courteously kind to those who were courteously kind to him. He was a remarkable artist in whichever field he chose. And it was he who taught Steve McQueen how to act on film (go for fewer lines and more expression).

Umm,..It's my favorite film of Yul's. Chris Adams was awesome.With all those gorgeous men in it,it's pure eye candy for women. I'm just relieved that when they did the reboot they didnt use his name in it. Denzel is great,but he isnt Yul Brynner.

Loved him in the Journey (1959). Very underrated movie also starring Deborah Kerr. I kinda feel like Yul picked up where Charles Boyer left off with the exotic leading man roles and the sexy, ambiguous accent and all. First thing I think of is Boyer playing a Japanese Naval Commander opposite Merle Oberon in Thunder From the East (1934) or Shanghai (1935) opposite Loretta Young who searches China for the half-Russian, half-Chinese industrialist played by Boyer whom she loves. I love these two guys.

Brynner and Kerr had an amazing on-screen chemistry, both in The Journey and, of course, in The King and I.

Oh my. Another one of the greats. Charles Boyer was in The Buccaneer (1958) as well, in which Brynner played Jean Lafitte; he co-starred with Heston and the film was produced by De Mille but directed by Anthony Quinn.

As a child, he was one of my faves….I’ll always remember his role as Taras Bulba…..he had such a beautiful deep voice…..& he was gorgeous…..and he shocked me in “westworld”. …..he was eerily scary! What a heartthrob! There will never be another!
people should read "Yul: The Man Who Would Be King : A Memoir of Father and Son",written by his son,Rock Brynner. It's an awesome read,and eye opener.
I'm a 17 year old girl from England but I love Yul so much, I first watched him in Magnificent Seven and it allllll went downhill from then. I now have a pillow, books, all his films (from dodgy Korean websites) and coasters. I even learnt Russian because of him. I absolutely adore him and his eccentricity

Yul smoked about 5-6 packs of cigarettes a day ? ,and during his work? A lot of cuts and breaks for him, though one would never know? Darn good actor ! and a great cowboy! MS 1&2 SPECTACULAR !

Hard to compare his greatness to what we have now. When will the next truly great actor emerge? Perhaps when they make compelling stories again.
First you need a real author to write a bestseller. Then they make it into a good movie. I know writers still write, but the electronic age has changed all that. I miss reading a good book. So, you'll have to look to the "Indies" for compelling movies.

Like a commenter below, I too fell in love with Yul Brynner when I saw the movie version of the King and I. His exotic good looks (from head to toe) and bearing made him such a breathtaking standout. I knew little about him, however, so this video was not only informative but, rather than detracting from his persona, explained it! Something that caught my I from all the still photographs in the video was the body hair on his arms, chest, and I assume legs. Never occurred to me that for parts like the King of Siam they/he needed to shave every body part that showed! And I've never seen Westworld, but now I want to see it because of your review of his performance. And, though I loved all those stills, the ones with Mr. Brynner holding a cigarette were a sad reminder of the ubiquitousness of cigarettes in those days. It's quite disturbing to look back at old movies, TV shows, JOHNNY CARSON, and see those damn cancer sticks between people's fingers or smoldering in an ashtray! Shocking that tobacco companies ever got away with that. And what a HORRIBLE thing to perpetrate on the public! We've lost far too many people prematurely because of that scourge of mankind! Change of subject and quick note: I've always been baffled by the kinds of things that men find erotic, most seemingly quite overt. Though I can't speak for all women, I think we're moved by subtler things. Case in point: King and I, "Shall We Dance" scene, when Anna is teaching the King to dance, and Mr. Brynner steps toward her and slowly slips his beautiful masculine hand around her waist -- takes my breath away every time!

If you've never seen The Buccaneer, give it a go! Not only is it another pairing of Brynner and Heston, but it is one of the rare instances where Yul has a full head of hair. The story is enjoyable to watch, the acting is excellent, and Brynner eats up the scenery as usual.

Yul will forever be indelibly linked with Cinema as a first rate example of the finest the craft had to offer. He has made an enduring impression. Also, it appears he was incapable of taking a bad photograph. What a remarkable thespian. Simply put, Yul was fabulous.
I fell in love with Yul Brynner when he scared the hell out of me in Westworld. I was 16 years old in 1973 when that movie came out and this man dazzled me. After that I watched him in Anastasia, The Ten Commandments, The Magnificent Seven and The King and I. Rest in Peace, thanks for everything.

At one time, he mentioned his SWISS and ROMA (Gypsey) background.He performed in bars and restaurants in Paris with his sister. He sang and played the balalayka while his sister danced.

May I recommend a now completely forgotten Brynner masterpiece -- 1963's Kings of the Sun? The entirely pre-Columbian story is profound, YB's role in it pivotal. Absorbing and totally unique!

Just watched Kings of the Sun about a month ago. George Chakiris was in it as well. Their characters of two tribal chiefs, one Indian and one Aztec? start as enemies but end as allies and friends. Sadly, Yul's character dies at the end.

Age, do you know Johnny Hallyday ? I'm in France and he was as big as Elvis in the US. He died a few years ago from cancer too, abusing him too of the cigarettes...a true rock star. Yul Brynner’s roles as Nobles in “The King and I”, and in “The Ten Commandments” were my favorites by him. But his heartfelt role as a spokesman for the the American Cancer Society was the Most Noble and sadly most memorable. End of an Era.
