What a wonderful journal to have Pam. If we could all have some bit of our grandmothers and grandfathers old things and pictures, maybe life would be a better place.

What a beautiful tribute to your grandparents! I have a boxful of papers and letters, passports, rationcards from WW2, drivers licences, all kind of things from my parents, who both passed away recently. Now I know what to do with it all. Thankyou!
Pam, I can't think of a better way to keep the papers we inherit from those we loved. My mother left a huge trove of papers, all of which I still have. It will be a gargantuan project to collect them all and give them a proper home, but it will be a labor of love. Thank you. ~ Lisa
Hi LB! One thing I can share is that now that the papers are in a journal I have looked at them so many more times than when they were in the box at the bottom of the closet ;) It has been fun to share with other family members too :)
This is great. Gave me a wonderful idea about how to use my grandparents old papers. My grandpa saved a lot! I got to be the one to get the papers out of his trunk.

I absolutely love this idea! We have hundreds of old black and white photos of family and friends.....people i don't know who they are. My mom is 90 and still has a good memory for the past. I am having her to write down who these people are and just a little about them.
I want to create a journal....or journals....to preserve these.

Hmm, have you explored Ancestry.com yet? You may be able to make copies of lots of old papers related to you lineage! :)

That was lovely to watch. I grew up with such a dysfunctional family that I never had a relationship with grandmother's or grandfathers. I didn't even know who my biological dad was until May of last year. I went from being an only child to having 4 half sisters and a half brother. Yay for Ancestry.com. it has been such a delightful surprise. I look forward to watching many more of your videos. 🦋

Lovely! This year I gave my daughter her holiday gifts, not necessarily journal related, wrapped in vintage linen. One was a napkin very similar to yours! I also gave all the young woman who attended her bridal shower vintage hankies as favors. I could only wish my family had preserved some of their papers. Sometimes I think my fascination with all of the above, old photos and vintage ephemera in general is precisely because I’m trying to fill in the blanks of my own history. Beautiful, thanks for sharing.

Oh, Pam❤This is exactly what I want to do with my Grandma Grace's things to honor her for my Dad.
I also want to make Special Journals for my kids' Grandparents to write to their grandchildren--they hold a wealth of information from days gone by. Treasures lost when they pass away if not written down somewhere. Thank you for inspiring me to do this💞🤗
This is so lovely to find from a love one. Today I found pictures of my parents when they were young adults. I will look for more things I have placed somewhere..

Such a very special journal, Pam. It's beautiful in every single way. Your grandparents must have been very strong persons. Imagine crossing the Atlantic back then..... Not exactly a walk in the park. Fantastic that you got all these documents! How exciting it'll all be the day you get it translated!
I have not done a 'honoring journal' but similar in the form of a scrapbooking album. I had a three years younger brother that we tragically lost in summer 2014, leaving three sons behind. At this time the oldest was about to be 14 years, the middle son about to be 12 and the youngest one was 9 yrs. Thankfully I've always taken lots of photos. Started going through them all picking out the ones with any of the boys, and their father. Fortunately I've kept a diary since like 1980! So even the analogue pictures I could pinpoint to the correct date. I could tell what they got for birthday presents when they were like 1, 2, etc years old and what we ate!! Last summer the oldest one graduated, he's 19 yrs old now! As a present I gave him 2 full scrapbooking albums filled with pictures and journaling. I don't want my nephews to forget their father. Already has the albums ready for the middle son, he will graduate in June 2021. We are memory keepers, my dear friend! Hugs from Ditte

That’s beautiful my grandparents died when my mom was a child and when I was a baby our home burned down so I don’t have gorgeous moments like yours. You are so so lucky. Pam, put that in a fireproof safe. That is precious or somewhere you can grab on the way out if there was a fire. I think thst is just amazing that you have that! Good for you!
Thanks Vickie, I think about folks who don't have the hard copy papers and I think about ways they could maybe make a journal to honor a family member. Maybe one could make a journal of memories of that person using pictures from magazines or words from a book. Maybe poems could be added ( self written or "borrowed"). Maybe an art journal of feelings and emotions could be made or drawings or collage to express things. Maybe we don't actually need the old papers. Maybe we can still pay tribute to those special and dear to us. The journal world is our oyster to create something from nothing...so let's do this! :)

Oh my goodness...lovey too see you put the treasured documents in an extra special journal keepsake! I was so shocked to hear your grandparents came to Canada ( big country). But one of the mementos was from Kmart Welland, Ontario. Of all places! That’s 10 minutes from where I live! Imagine that! My goodness gracious 💕🇨🇦. My parents emigrated from England in 1965, and I’ve been thinking of doing a journal for me first..of my precious memories then do something lovely for my Mom. Mom has great memories of her past, but short-term difficulties. So a journal, I think might be something she could look at & enjoy in the present. Thank you so much for sharing, Pam. What an awesome tribute to Your Grandparents! I have a 3 ring binder that my Uncle my Dad's brother gave me and it's my heritage. Lovely journal Pam! Wonderful idea! My grandparents came from Italy. Their papers are all in Italian. Right now they are stored in my mother’s cedar chest, which was given to her when she was a girl by my grandmother. I never knew my grandparents, they passed away before I was born. My mother was almost 92 when she passed away. The cedar chest is about 84 years old, itself. This is a wonderful idea for their old papers...
The cedar chest is at my sons, because we were having problems with flooding from burst water heaters in my building... so I evacuated the cedar chest for safekeeping.
Well, I certainly didn’t mean to write a dissertation here...

Google translate is our friend. Cameras took several minutes to capture an image in the 1800s. It was too hard to hold a natural looking smile for that long so they opted for a no- expression for photos. Lovely journal. I'm inspired.

Wonderful ideas!! My cousins have most of the family history. I was fortunate enough to get my grandmother's paperwork from whence she came to this country from Spain via Cuba. I really don't have a home where I can keep things properly so I plan to copy all the paperwork and give the original ones to my daughter. but I would like to make a journal like this with the copies for myself and then send some of the other copies in a journal to my cousin's. Firstly.....sending you Aussie Christmas Greetings.... boy am I looking forward to getting back home and have a dig in my trunk and gathering my parents momentous it will have all bits and pieces of their migration to Australia many yrs ago ....and what a momentous way of holding it ALL in a journal to pass on to the next generation instead of a box which would just be taken away cause it's just stuff. A beautiful way to honor your grandparents. You've inspired me to try something similar this coming year. An idea to have your treasures translated is to visit a family history center, if there is one near you. I'm seeking help through them to translate some Norwegian documents for me.

I recently started going through all those boxes of papers that I’ve stored for a while and I found some amazing things from my grandparents and other family including photos and letters. My family came to this country from Cuba and there is even some amazing Cuban memorabilia I found. I’m going to make something exactly like this. Thank you for sharing.

OMG I've been compiling my grandparents papers with the intent to make a journal to pass on to my daughter. My maternal grandparents were also from Hungary, they settled in West Virginia & my grandfather worked in the coal mines. They were called gypsys because they would move often to where there was coal to be mined. My fraternal grandparents came from 🇮🇹 Italy. Thanks for sharing, love meeting someone whose.Hungarian. 💖💖💖

Sooo enjoyed this video!!!...When my dad passed, I started gathering pictures and what ever else I could find, and it all turned into a geneogy book of sorts...one of the areas that my Dad and I connected on...then I went on to make another album for my mothers side of the family...Altho not too much paperwork.on either side its still a wonderful tribute....I plan to copy it to hand it down to whoever may want it...You are so lucky to have so much paperwork!!! Three cheers for the savers in the family!!!.....People now days tend not to do it...Thank God someone saw fit to do so!!! There's something to be said about holding an object in your hands...as opposed to seeing it on line!!!....Thank you for doing this!!!💝

Lucky you are to have all of these papers. What a wonderful way to keep them safe and together in one place. My dad died when I was 7 and my mom died when I was 12 so needless to say I don’t have much from their past. I was fortunate have a few photos and am going to be doing an ancestry search soon. It is so cool that you are lucky enough to have these old documents! Love how they are in a journal rather than a scrapbook. I hope your papers are acid free tho so the old papers won't break down any more.
