- You've probably seen this 7.3L Godzilla swapped on the Five Bar Motorsport YT Channel, but here's your chance to see a rig run-down of the entire build. It's great to see these guys out there pioneering performance modification of Ford's latest V8 power plant. You can see our full article (with lots of pics) here :: www.svtperform...

Had to stop watching when he called it a motor. It's not a Tesla.
I know right? This clown who got a brand new truck engine running and boosted in a platform designed well before the engine was even as thought doesnt know the difference between the oxford dictionary definition of a motor and an engine.
-sent from my galaxy8 on my MOTORcycle
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone here is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
An engine is a type of motor, hence motorsports, motor speedway or motorcycle. Dipshit.
@Makitta, Do you ever get lightheaded or dizzy to the point of passing out from the excessive bending over and smelling of ones own farts?
Is that really what got your panties bunched? Your the type of guy that probably corrects peoples text's on the differences between you're and your. Makitta: I stopped giving her the D when shes said "Harder Daddy" "I'm not her father"
Thanks for coming by and showing some love. We're gonna see what an aftermarket camshaft does here in the next couple days.
Let me start off by saying that I,am not a mechanic.I said that to say this, why would you need a 7.3 motor, when Kevin Van Voris i think is in the 7s in the 1/4 mile ,with a built 5.0?I could see the 7.3,in a new FORD GT or a new BOSS 429.
@@drfaticus Everyone and their mother knows how great the Coyote platform has been over the past few years. Our S197 had a 1200hp 3V setup in it prior to this and rather than going with a Coyote based engine or an LS based engine, we decided to see what this new platform could do and be a bit different. It's been fun for our team to bond over testing out a new platform and the feedback we get from folks keeps us going. Thanks for your comment.
@@FiveBarMotorsports nothing wrong with trying something different at all.NEVER use an ls though!!hope things go well for you guys.
Im excited to keep watching yall. Im saving up to build me toy. And instead of an old FSB style block i might go for this.
@palmbeachdyno just got their cam for their Godzilla and it runs amazing!! Took a lot of work for them to get the tuning right but it is a motor with so much potential.
Really looking forward to the Godzilla getting more attention and development. Ford needs an option for us bigger cubic inch Ford fans.
No reason, already have a better option in the coyote platform.
@@Joebauers2505 I and a lot of other people disagree with you there. I’m a life long Ford guy that hasn’t owned a performance oriented Ford since the mod motors came out. I don’t like small bore space, limited displacement engines that are externally huge. I know the potential of the coyote, but I still don’t want one and never will. The Godzilla platform with 1/4 the development of the coyote will make more horsepower and twice the torque while being much less complicated and easier to fit in different vehicles. I’ve literally never heard a convincing argument that the coyote is superior to a pushrod engine. It’s definitely more modern, more complicated and makes more power per cubic inch, but if it’s just as big and heavy externally as a bigger displacement, more simple pushrod engine that makes as much horsepower and more torque, then where is the advantage? Being able to say I made X amount of power with 5 liters? Or I have a dual overhead cam, super modern motor? Those are not advantages in my mind and definitely don’t make it worth dealing with the complexity of the coyote. This is America and everyone has the freedom to like whatever they like including the coyote, but it’s hilarious to me how coyote fans come on every video about Godzilla to talk negatively about it. I don’t see Godzilla fans constantly commenting negatively about the coyote.
@@paullane7489 I never said anything negative about the 7.3, i like old pushrods they just sound better and are cheap. But the advantages of a coyote are beyond that with which you stated, its actually quite less in weight also doesnt use a power steering pump that would be added weight of the godzilla. If i added 1 mod as Just a supercharger to either engine the coyote would out perform the godzilla and take more abuse. The bigger displacement thought has me a little i get that but they do offer stroker kits for the coyote platform, AS well as the european Mod motors that are bigger displacement as im not a particular fan of just coyote or engine in general i just like making power and going fast hell my favorite engine for no reason is a 300 six. Im not convincing at all and as much as i like the idea of going backwards to something easier, its just more efficient you said it yourself if something makes more power per cube its simply because its doing it better. whether that be an coyote or an engine from over the pond. Sorry got carried away.
@@Joebauers2505 sounds good. I think some of the issue is different people and their different plans. I agree an otherwise stock coyote with forced induction will make more power than a stock Godzilla with forced induction. But that’s not my interest personally. I would be comparing a built Godzilla, possible even eventually bigger than 7.3 liters, to a built coyote which I think the biggest extreme stroker and sprayed bore versions may reach 5.8 liters. And I believe in naturally aspirated or blown versions a built Godzilla would make more horsepower and way more torque than a built coyote. I’m not particularly an LS fan, but in the head to head comparisons of built LS’s above 400” displacement and built coyotes, that I’ve seen, the LS makes more power and way more torque. So I assume the Godzilla would as well by possibly even a greater margin. And the horsepower per cubic inch doesn’t mean anything to me if you can get way more cubic inches in a similar external sized engine. Also if Ford even produces an aluminum block version of the Godzilla, i think it won’t weight more more than a coyote. At least the comparisons again to an aluminum LS showed they weighed about the same. I’m only using the LS as an example because it’s the closed thing to an aluminum Godzilla there is that I know of. Anyway, they are both good platforms no doubt about it. I just like building horsepower as well, but the complexity and limited displacement of the coyote is not my thing. Again, just my personal preference.
@@paullane7489 I get that but if we're heading down that lane, you can already get big cube aluminum blocks packaged as crates from ford dart blueprint and a few others out there. Hell a built Windsor 351 blown out to 460 would be similar in price these days. My only thing is sadly the cam in block design is on its way out and we're stuck in the death to birth cycle.a good read about a big cube engine is the 427 cammer some neat shit
Glad to be apart of your build sir!
Top notch products!
I'm an LS guy but I hope people keep swapping the 7.3L so more aftermarket parts become available. Everything from the 351W to the new 5.0 has a lot of support so the future looks good.
Bone stock with a turbo running high 8’s. Fords always gotten it right with their engine designs. Especially the Cleveland.
Yet the Windsor was used for 20 years longer haha
@@roscoep4850 reason for Ford only producing the Cleveland’s from 1970 to 74 was because of government emissions. The baddest SBF race engines today still use the Cleveland cylinder head design on a Windsor short block. Billy Gliddon was making 3800 HP on nitrous. Look it up on TH-cam
What about the 2v
@@joetroy2904 Unless they’re the 2V closed chamber heads. I wouldn’t mess with 2V open chamber cylinder heads. It’s the small valve, open chamber that kills compression and quench. I’d go 302-351-W if you are starting from scratch on a budget. A set of aftermarket aluminum heads for Cleveland are going to set you back $2500.00 and up. Big power out of these heads with a good combination. You can build a 400+hp 302-351-W for about $2500 and up depending on the combination and quality of parts
@@StainlessTIG2 i have a 2v mustang, I’ve spent around 2.5k on go fast parts and only make 310whp I fucking hate it. Im dropping a 5.0 in it hopefully around September
Cool build guys! Looks good & goes hard !! 💪💪💪
(Also - love the blue Holden Commodore lurking in the background)
Finally hear someone mention the 6.2 and how it was completely short changed on the performance support. Really a sad turnout for an engine with so much potential.
Is that Reptar on the front cover?! 😂😂🤣 I love it!!! Really nice build!! I was looking to Coyote swap my 08 S197 but been seeing these vids of the 7.3 Godzilla and 6.8L pushrods popping up like daisies lately. May have to reconsider..
Sure as hell is!
Looking good. Harrop put a blower on their 7.3, with 20psi, a 102mm throttle body and unopened engine, it's made 1015hp and 988ft lbs so far.
RevEvan has a vid of 1400 on 16lbs, stock block, stock crank. Ported heads and forged pistons
You have a Holden Commodore next to the race car. Interesting.
its a chevy ss big whup
I noticed that too.
It's an SS Commodore in Oz.
Awesome!!! Godzilla swaps are the future of internal combustion engines
Yeah. Just like "Coyote swaps" were "last year".
@@deeremeyer1749 no sure why you feel the need to follow me around and reply to my comments.
But an engine that can run 9’s with nothing but a single 88mm turbo is very impressive, a turbocharged c8 corvette won’t run 9’s.
@@godzillagarage7.3 The C8 hasn’t been able to be fully unlocked to tune it so that’s an invalid arguement, people are pulling 5.3’s and 4.8’s out of junk yards, bolting a turbo on and running 8’s
@@bigboreracing356 Not true at all, look into it more, Gen IV LS rods are pretty strong. You can argue it all you want but the LS is the best bang for buck platform.
@@bigboreracing356 That’s good.
Id LOVE to see a 7.3L put in a 2020 explorer since they are rwd based now!
Ya these engines sit high. I just got one for my notchback fox. I bought an aftermarket pan from 417 Motorsports. A bit expensive, but it does the trick. I'm sure the prices will come down as more and more people buy this motor and the demand picks up.
Looks standard to me )) Nice looking Holden commodore next to it
Good to see y'all ford guys have your own LS
Yep leave the LS in the junkyards, whatever LS stands for, Lame shit?
@@danderson9881 THAT LAME SHIT HAS BEEN KICKING YOUR ASSES FOR YEARS!!! BWHAHAHA
@@dannygreen5878 and will continue to. I love the idea of the new 7.3 and yes it has potential, as literally any engine does, but I think you will see about 10 rich people use it. And those 10 rich people could make anything fast not only the 7.3.
Ford Guys in Australia use Barra's to flog LS engines LOL we don't need V8 boat anchors to make power
Barra is a 6 cyl bahaha and a Barra is shit.. it's good to see u ford guys finally have a decent v8.. and ford wasnt the first with that v8 design 😂🤦♂️
“Hopefully they don’t leave it off like the 6.2 which didn’t really go any where”
That hurt 😞 because it’s true lol.
Indeed, really was looking forward to the performance mods for the 6.2 but instead the coyote got all the attention. Really sad and disappointed over the whole matter as I went out and made a vehicle purchase specifically for the 6.2 and was totally pumped in anticipation of what the market would offer only to be let down. Now Ford goes retro and goes back to a pushrod motor and everybody is creamin over it. Totally makes sense with a tanked economy and inflation bearing down on steroids. A new truck to me these days is frankly unimaginable since the devastation of the energy sector. Not in the cards for me I guess. Oh well, my 2011 with the 6.2 is still running strong at 126,000 miles and most important of all, PAID FOR.
@@rprzen2099 YES. Paid for is key. I have a 14 F-250 with the 6.2. It’s a work truck with all vinyl interior but my daily is a toyota and my f-250 is more of a toy than anything since it’s what I can afford. Was hoping for more aftermarket for the 6.2 like you. But it is what it is. Just recently straight piped it my self and it sounds so good. 😈
Where is the intercooler?
People have been putting big engines in Mustangs since the Fox body era. There was even a kit sold (still is, I believe) to drop a 429/460/514 stroker in those
It worked in any Fox body variant as well.
This is a really cool build. Five bar motorsports is in the same city I live. I wanted them to do work on my car, spoke to two different people and no one ever got back with me.
Hey Cody, not sure how long ago you reached out to us or who you spoke with but we've made a number of changes here in our office to ensure this doesn't take place. Feel free to reach out to our director of operations Mason if you should need anything in the future. He'll get you taken care of. mason@fivebarmotorsports.com
@@FiveBarMotorsports Thank you for the reply. I'll redact my statement and try to set something up again. It could've been bad timing.
Does anyone know if the godzilla will fit under the stock hood of an s197 (05-09) with a fpp low profile intake manifold?
I have a brand new fully built engine in my fox body, and I want to pull it out already for a Godzilla. I think Ford has made an LS killer!
This is the first I’ve heard of this engine but it’s strange, 7.3 liter with 430hp vs the ls7 7.0 liter with 505hp. What’s the big deal about the Godzilla engine? Every time Ford comes out with a new engine ppl say it’s an LS killer.. Ford guys are still arguing about their engines being better than 15-20 year old ls engines. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
@@andrewr022488 its a truck engine it has a truck cam. when built to car spec like the ls7 it is competive. But it wont take over the LS because they're not cheap and never will be.
@@2011metalmaniac Meh, if you want to compare truck engine numbers look at the L92, came out in 2008 and although being 1.1 liters smaller than the Godzilla engine, it only lacks 27hp. Even yolodouchebag hates the Godzilla engine because he said it’s basically fords attempt at making an LS style engine.
@@andrewr022488 When it Ford came out with the 7.3 many people were suprised. Considering global car manufacturers are heading towards EV. Even GM have launched an overhead cam engine for the racing corvette c8 GTR
The C4 ZR1 had a dohc engine back in the 90’s which was made by Lotus. Supposedly the new C8 Z06 will be powered by a dohc forced induction engine. Each have their place, but to get back to the original debate, I’m not sure why ppl are jizzing their pants over the Godzilla engine. More displacement than any factory LS based and barely makes more power than an L92. That’s my only arguement
Man I’ll be honest I don’t know if you would need to change those springs when you change the cam. That valve train is pretty tight.
My foxbody is getting work done at five bar right now
e85 with no a/a or a/w intercooler or meth injection does e85 run cooler that one is not needed or do they just run less timing?
Same question here. Why not cool the charge? Just early experimenting for now I suppose.
Who's SS?
Our director of operations, Mason's car.
Should have just spoke to harrop for their supercharger setup for the 7.3 fix all the intake throttlebody issues
I really hope they work with this engine. I hope they move the entire platform over to push her out again! I would love that. I’m tired of these over complex four valve four cam engines, ridiculous
Nah to each there own grandpa I like this but there’s a place for people to stroke and bore out there hp or to spin your engine to 9k to hit
It's why I run a ford flat head in my bathtub 1930 dodge pickup. Just way to easy to make power and extremely simple to work on. Hellcats don't even know what hits em when I put it in high gear.
On the left is a Australian Blue SS Commodore.
Probably my favorite motor for has had since the coyote but without all the extra crap
I see a LOT of busted oil pans in the future of that car lol.
Proper tune on e85 will only be down 1.5-2% from methanol
Dude had to squeeze in there that company name in lol
Man, after reading the comments? I can see the LS guys are definitely nervous. If you think not? I'm living in GM country matter of fact, I'm within 35 minutes to Flint, Michigan where damn near all the truck engines are built. 95% of every car you can dream of has a LS engine it but when I mentioned the Godzilla 7.3L? Most of them can not wait until it has more parts available for it because like they said, " if this truck engine is responding to simple bull💩 changes? What in the hell will it do with pure breed racing part's?" I told them this, big big power without going full balls to walk like the LS guys has to do to make 1200-1500 HP. The Godzilla is damn near there and it's not even built. Let that sink in for a few.
Ford’s engines are really over built. Wouldn’t be surprised if you can take this over 1k without doing serious work.
The 7.3 is cool and I'm interested to see where it goes. But with what stock or lightly modded truck LS based engines have done they have alot to live up to in comparison.. GM truck engines are obviously alot cheaper too. Hopefully the 7.3 will become cheaper and more available as time goes by and trucks end up in the junkyard
Harrop in AUSSIE has made over 1000hp with theres already

Not extremely impressed with the cosmetic side of this build but definitely impressive numbers 👏
Not a coyote yet 🤭
Dam 7.3 diesel that's nice
Thank you very much for keeping that overrated LS trash away from Mustang and opting for way better option!! Though you also had option of 572 big brother motor!!
I hate when ppl do that swap fr too
So glad you guys did not do a LS swap!!! Now you can considered a real car.. and a whole lot stronger than the LS!! 💯👈🏾💪🏾 FO-SHO!!!
I like how they call it godzilla but it is much smaller then a 5.0
"Then" a 5.0? How do you figure that? The motor is 7.3 liters. 7.3 is bigger than 5.0. Physically, it's not as wide as a Coyote, it's about the same length, and the 7.3 is taller than the Coyote. So, your statement makes no sense, starting with "then."
@@buckhorncortez right, dont get butt hurt. when you have space between the strut towers to put your arm in unlike a 5.0 then i am talking physical size when physical displacement vs engine actual size like the 7.3 or big block chevy fits better "than" a 5.0 I never understand ford's goofy nomenclature
7.3L made almost 800hp at 15psi, then we pinched a ring... Thats approching what a stock 5.0L Coyote with a Whipple, TVS, Centrifugal can make. Swap makes sense for F100 restoration guys heading to auction but thats about it.
man fire your tuner... that thing should be making alot more power at 15psi
Harrop in AUSSIE has made over 1000hp with theres unopened
@@xenith0351 exactly, but, thats aussie tuning for you, they've got fords figured out!
Am I the only one that wants to see one of these motors max effort N/A? i want to see one rival H/C LS7 HP numbers.
Someone made 790 NA and 1400+ on 16lbs boost, they're aiming for 1700.
RIP the 6.2’s future ;_;
Too bad they couldn't get some actual billet DOHC heads made for these. Having that much more breathing room with multivalves would be awesome, two stage turbo, here we go 6s....
Why would ford do that when they totally squandered the potential of the 6.2? The 6.2 has same potential as a godzilla but ford pushed out the coyote at same time and made the 6.2 the red headed step child and put it out in the cold.
why would they put dohc heads on a pushrod v8?
