My feelings ain’t hurt at all….tracking a deer is absolutely the ultimate pursuit and has always been my favorite way to hunt deer ever since I read LB’s book back when I was in High School in the early 70’s. The older I get, the harder it becomes but I pray for a tracking snow every Deer Season. Keep after em Cody. The Lord shines on the persistent.
@@TheMaineWoods Yup!! I have been tracking hard up here in Northern Wisconsin...got 20 yards from a buck on saturday...too thick to even see him let alone pull off a shot. But still to say I was 20 yards from a shooter buck in a piece of woods I have never stepped foot in is really cool!! I can't hardly stand hunting any other way....I long to go tracking all year long!! Adventure every time you take a track!!
Tracking is one skill I've yet to learn well. But, I've tried it during our late flintlock season here in PA before which is after Christmas and when the best chances of snow on the ground exists. Great video, I enjoyed it!
The reality and physicality of what you do is awesome. I cant hunt currently bc of creaky bones but our problem in NY was always we had to stay on unposted land. What we did was wait for them. You go to them. I could not even imagine dragging a buck like that out of the woods. You have to be in professional athlete shape. Those slide action Remingtons seem to be the ticket in the thicket. After the bancruptcy they sell them again but only in 3 calibers. Ruger is also slowly reviving Marlin. The former Remington owners wrote off tons of borrowed money on those companies and they went down. So many lost jobs due to greed. Evil stuff.
Tracking deer is the purest form of deer hunting it’s hard here in Pennsylvania to do it the pumpkin army gets in the way good luck on chasing him down
We've all eaten our share of track soup (I like mine with a little salt, just a pinch, and cilantro) but at least you got some shooting. On those narrow gap situations, I like holding ahead (on a gap) on my best guess for path of travel and touching it off as soon as I see motion. That's gotten a couple bucks for me that otherwise would've gotten away.
Tracking is definitely a challenge. I am not great at it but I enjoy tracking and still hunting here in Maine. The best part is us Trackers and Still Hunters will see things that the average stand or blind hunter may never see. That persistence pays off. I've learned with these Deer, stay on them because eventually you'll catch them slipping.
I remember reading about the Benoits? Larry Benoit and his sons Lenny and Lanny...??, I forget for sure what the second son's name was, it was 35+ years ago.... in an Outdoor Life magazine when I was a wide eyed novice hunter. I don't hunt in an area that is condusive to tracking a whitetail down but I've always wanted to try it. Seems like a pure way to hunt. Loved the video!
Well got ur cardio in anyways lol no other feeling in the world then running into deer when ur hunting gets the heart pumping I do t care if it’s a doe or a smasher I still get excited everytime. Keep on em and keep the videos coming
You can't hit what you don't shoot bud. That's huntin' in the big woods...don't have to tell you that. Great effort and a great video Cory. Keep after it bud!
Lil more snow you would of had him! Some of these comments are from people that have clearly not hunted the big woods in maine. This isn't where you sit on a food plot and name your deer. You have to put the lead down! Thanks for the video.
What caliber is that rifle you are using (30-06 ?). Definitely looks like a Remington. I definitly need to try tracking a big one down. The problem I have is I hunt in northeast Wisconsin. There is thousands of acres of public land but there is just way to many hunters. I would constantly be walking in on other hunters which I do not like doing. Great videos by the way. There honest and down to earth.
@@richardbrewin4936 The problem with that is if I walk a mile in, generally I will hit another road. The roads around here are set about a mile apart for logging access and for fire control.
Love your videos man. Great hunt. Keep up the hard work. Shot my first buck tracking this year in western Maine. Your videos are a good motivator and help keep me excited through the season. Keep your head up and good luck getting on that buck
exciting video! I found it interesting to see the Raven flying in the background at the end of the video while you were talking to the audience. Where i hunt, ravens flying overhead is usually a sign that an animal is either down or leaving a blood trail.
Success comes in all levels and styles. Catching up to bucks while tracking in the big woods is success - Period! Obviously making the kill shot and harvesting is great too. But, many people hunt all season and never see one buck let alone a half dozen like yourself. Keep the pursuit going and I'll see you at the 505 Lodge! "TDH"
"Hunting is a pursuit, tracking is the ultimate pursuit of a whitetail buck, I don't care if that hurts your feelings". Doesn't hurt my feelings. When I was a young boy in the 50's I use to have to hold the flashlight for my dad, so there are no more chips left on my shoulder. I wish we could hunt like this in Texas but just not possible. I envy you guys that get to do it this way. I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen a good snow where I live. I highly approve of your choice of firearm. What caliber?
Ou need a small bell like a sheep bell hang it on your belt let it ring when you start tracking after you track him a while (2hours or so ) put a paper towel or cloth in the bell to stop ringing start tracking keep your eves open he'll be watching and listening for you .you can slip right up on him
Awesome hunt but I have a question why do most of you guys carry 760s or 7600s and not 742s or 7400s? It doesn't seem like you have a issue with getting a follow-up shot even with a pump. I think a semi-auto would be a little bit faster not sure that it matters all that much. Does it basically boil down to just personal preference. As someone has lived and hunted in the Southeast primarily Kentucky Tennessee and Georgia we just can't do this kind of hunting here. I did live in New Hampshire for about 5 years for a job and I tried this in Northern New Hampshire wasn't very successful probably just don't have the patience for it or was probably going too fast I saw a lot of butts didn't get a lot of shots LOL
That is a good idea, I do that often and I probably would have but it was soo windy he would not have heard it that day, you probably cannot tell how windy it was in this footage
@@TheMaineWoods that makes more sense , glad you even got to see him, it’s hard when you can’t really hear much and have to rely on just your eyes. The hardest part of tracking is knowing when to go fast and when to go slow. And whenever you stop, always stop behind a tree if you can. The Benoits like to track in pairs, so one could follow the track and the other watches the woods. Side note, I have a pump action 30.06 I bought from Lanny’s brother in 2000. Much love for all the videos. God bless, may you and your family holidays be filled with joy and happiness
I came across a big. Buck track bird huntting. Nice day followed it slow and easy. After. Hour i saw blood. I found him. Dead. Arrow in his ass. 12pt. I put my tag on him. He must have had the arrow in him for. At lest a week. Public huntting land.

Gotta love the comments from people who have never hunted in the big woods🙄. Great video. Keep after them.

What comments? Why would anyone care?
My favorite way to hunt, is to track, probably due to the fact I cant sit still . Another great video man. Love them
No matter what, getting that many shots off on a buck while tracking is an accomplishment in and of itself!!!
The hunt is creating the opportunity to shoot, shooting the animal is just the kill

The first shot does because it blows off the tape covering the muzzle
Wish we could track now a days on the coast. But we only get one storm during deer season and it's the last week usually.
