Welcome to Vectornator Academy! This video series will be jam-packed with Vectornator Tutorials, from beginners to advanced, that will help you learn our tool step by step. You'll find that Vectornator is clean, intuitive, and most importantly, easy to learn.
At its core, “boolean” is a logic term that can be either “true” or “false,” and is commonly used in computer programming.
In terms of graphics design, the meaning is quite similar. We use “boolean” to describe how shapes are combined, using values such as “and”, “or,” “not,” or a combination of these. Getting too technical?
Simply put, Boolean operations are a very powerful tool for any product or graphic design project. A complicated-looking shape can be constructed in no time using the five Boolean operations present in Vectornator, namely Union, Subtract, Intersect, Divide, and Exclude.
Creating complex shapes is something you’ll inevitably come across in icon or logo design, so let’s take a deeper look at these 5 options in this video.
Hope you enjoy! Let us know what you think in the comments section below and subscribe for more Vectornator Tutorials, inspiration, and more.

I really like to use boolean tool 🥰

That's awesome! They are a super useful way to create both easy and complex shapes with vectors. Make sure you tag us on social media so we can see (or even feature) your art 🙌

Something wrong ocurrs when I try to substract one circle from other bigger: instead a hole inside, it creates two forms. Vectornator on iPad. On Mac it is ok.

So say you did exclude on that same example, how do you divide that new shape into two separate shapes to move independently?

Hello! After Exclude, you can got to the Path Tab (third in the Inspector, on the right) and click on the button Separate. Hope this helped 🙌

How do you merge layers so they look exactly as you see them?! I can’t for the life of me see it anywhere

Only Shape Builder tool is missing in this app. Or you could have added Formatting tool like Adobe Illustrator has in ipad. Otherwise this app is the best.

We really appreciate your words! We don't have a shape builder yet, but when you have time, pls upvote this issue on our Feedback platform so we can prioritize it properly: feedback.vectornator.io/posts/138/add-shape-builder-tool-please

What if you have vectornator on MacBook Pro?

Hey, it works exactly the same. You can find the Booleans inside the Inspector or you can add a shortcut in the Top Toolbar.
