So why do you believe that Leica has moved away from the Q2 /SL2 sensor to implement this new 40MP sensor ? Does it make any practical sense in terms of IQ ? Or just commercial reasons ? I can‘t still put my arms around it.
Thanks for that very useful post. I have the SL2 which I use with SL and M glass. I also shoot with the M10-M (zen-like fun) and an MP film camera (I’ve been an M fan for 30 years - and, yes, I have a white beard). I recently used the M10-R with a view to buying it. Like you I couldn’t tell it apart from the SL2 - apart from the user experience. What I did notice however is how beautifully the SL2 deals with Low light - allowing me to shoot at insanely slow shutter speeds (IBIS) with wonderfully low ISO’s (note I don’t shoot much in the way of fast moving subjects in low light). Added to the bonus of video (which is marvellous when using M Glass - forget the big SL lenses for that) - the SL2 is a winner. It is 200g heavier than the M body - but that’s not a big deal. I’d love to consider the M10-R as I am afflicted with M love - but I might struggle in this instance when the SL2 does it all and more - and the M10-M - well that is the most wonderful M in the world. Keep up the concise and helpful work. Kind Regards Gary
I have an SL2 and a CL and use both Sigma and Panasonic lenses. Over the years, I found that the 24-70 range is the least utilized by me - outdoors, daylight, so I opted for an S 24-105 f4 for price and because it does quite decent outdoor macro. Have you considered testing the Lumix S Pro 24-70? It's half-way, I think, between the two.
Hello Math, I have been blown away by your comparison of the dynamic range. I would have never guessed that the Leica M10-R does so well in highlight recovery. Could you please compare it to the Hasselblad X1DII or the Fujifilm GFX100? I would be really curious to see how it does! Thank you, I love your videos!
@@mathphotographer Thank you, I am REALLY looking forward to seeing the comparison. Would it be too much to ask to throw your IQ4 into the comparison? I would really appreciate it. Do you accept donations? I would love to send you a virtual beer to thank you for your work. :)
the loss of color information in highlights even with >3 stops is of importance in highly contrasted situations if you don't want to have too much noise in the low lights, e.g. instagram.com/p/CFpwrPBh-2_ made on an SL2 with loss of the sky's blue hue
Thanks, Math. I've found the same discolouration on M10R after highlight recov test. Curious to find out what does it tell about sensor/processing data.
Brilliant comparison, thank you for doing this it must take a lot of time.
As always, excellent instruction! I can't thank you enough for all your videos! They have helped so much!
Thank you so much.
Always brilliant video and tutorial on the strengths and weakness of each camera and camera manufacturers
Thank you for your kind comment.
Thank you for your helpful videos

Excellent question, Chris. The new Leica Q2 Monochrom comes back with 47MP ... why they swap resolutions, no glue.
So in your opinion and from your own tests results which camera has the better sensor?

I did not try the Lumix but guess it will get the job done, Panasonic makes very good lenses too.
@@mathphotographer - I'm sorry, I type in shorthand, the Lumix IS the Panasonic. I have the 70-200 f/2.8 and it's amazingly good.

In the making, sorry for delays, had many projects in the pipeline.

like your chanel name suggests, your reviews are scientifical :)
Yes, PhD in math is helpful :) I do like to look at the technical side of things. Many thanks for your kind words.
Who else tried to click the red bar to restart the video? Just me? Ok
Ha! 😆
