[65] important points from this lecture:
Crop rate(ray) and Central schedule of price by Sher Shah
Higher tax for peasants
Appointed qanungos(were dishonest)
Karoris were appointed all over north India
Dahsala system instituted
Focus on local prices
First zabti system then dahsala system (improved one)
Batai or ghalla bakhshi(tax in form of grains or cash)
Cash crops-cotton, indigo, oil seeds etc...
Nasaq system-fixing tax amount by calculating the past experience
Kankut-paid by the village as a whole by past experience
Polaj-land which remained under cultivation almost every year
Parati (fallow)-uncultivated(no tax)
Chachar- land fallow for 3 years
Banjar-no cultivation
Land categories-good, middle, bad
Akbar-interested in improving cultivation
Loans-taccavi(agricultural loans generally)
Amils were appointed-superior crops,seeds
Dahsala-wasn't permanent
Zabti system-aka Raja todar mal's bandobast
Todar mal-one of the brilliant revenue officers
