Sting always reacts differently to interviews: He senses the intelligence and charisma of the person instantly. Legend! Also, well done interviewer--he wasn't over-awed by his subject!!
Great interview with warm rapport! The interviewer was well balanced, intelligent, witty and managed to get the best out of Sting, one of our most talented and creative singers.
Just wanted to forward a heartfelt regard and gratefulness for the interviewer being a humble, kind, and professional journalist that can comfortably respect and regard someone that is due such honor, and yet not be littled or insecure in Sting's presence. Beautifully kind conversation of just being real...much appreciated and certainly uplifting to see as world powers press a lower standard to be embraced. Like the interviewer, Sting has been a high standard of excellence and intellect and heart to inspire myself and so many others. Hopefully can see him live in concert myself some day.
I love Sting! I am The Police fan number 1. I grew up listen to The Police and Every Breath You Take was the fist song that I translated ti my mother tongue: Portuguese when I was 10 year old girl! I simply loved this song and lyric! So beautiful! The Police is the best rock band ever! It was a pity they separeted in 1984, I stayed sad! I love Sting, Andy and Stewart! They are amazing!
Nice interview. Such a relief the lack of cheesiness that often comes with interviews like this, so glad there's no "we've got a message for you" -videos, good and relevant to-the-point-questions. And Sting makes such good sentences, knows to articulate his answers so well and precise. What a joy!
A Sting interview is like a Stanley Kubrick film - it's a coin-flip whether it'll be engaging or opaque, but you know it'll be deeply intelligent. Thanks to this interviewer, we see a very personable side to Sting. Nice job. One thing: Anyone else notice that Sting looks suspiciously like David Letterman?
Thank you Sting for these wonderful moments of escape and serenity with The Police, and your solo albums, with this great talent shared with Stuart and Andy, without forgetting your commitment to the planet and people.
This is a great interview with a great interviewer. I loved the vibe with his colleagues at the end. It was so relaxed and natural; they're a real team.
Great interview! I met him twice in Chicago. I"m a photographer for WLS TV. As I was putting the mic on him the last time we had a brief exchange, and I can say he's extremely kind, just like you see here in this interview. I'm a lifelong Police fan and even a bigger Solo fan. It was a moment for me in my 30 years of doing tv news that I will always cherish. I have a pic of us laughing in that moment. I told our intern to keep snapping pics us! I have one that I throw up on Facebook from time to time. It's us smiling and chatting about yoga and girls lol.
As everyone else notes, Sting is a tricky interview subject. He can get moody very quickly and essentially ruin interviews. But this interviewer shows us how to do it, I've never seen Sting so whimsically engaged during an interview. Bravo to the interviewer!
I’ve been watching my hero, been interviewed for many, many years, and this is a really, really good interview. It’s well researched and he’s very relaxed answering it. Bravo! xxx
@@JackSmith-hx8zh I as a non fan haven't heard any of these solo "hits" but know all the Police songs. Yeah funny, that. I'll give him his due, he still has his voice. Paul Young is a painful listen but no doubt has fans who'll defend him.
Happy 30th Anniversary to Sting's Ten Summoner's Tales which, towards my belief, is his Magnum Opus. Funny enough, it feels like when they split in 1983-86', Stewart, Sting, and Andy became just as big progressively. A toast to one of the greatest rock trios of all time. 🥂
As it often happens I was searching for something, found it and it leads me to something unexpected. Like this interview. My oldest brother, may he RIP, was a doppelganger of Sting for a few years in the early 80s, he was a fan of all Britain's pop as were so many in the US during that time. Fast forward to learning others chose every breath you take to play at their weddings, my brother and I shared a hysterical laugh and carried that inside joke many of times well into the future. I hadn't thought about all that until I saw a TH-cam short with a bit of Sting's song with lyrics changed to reflect the love song that it wasn't meant as. This lead me to Google search for Sting's thought on all that and here I am. Got my answer but I also witnessed a grown-up interviewer behaving star-struck and it's so very sweet. I can not express how beautiful this moment has been for me. I'd not heard of this channel, nor the Interviewer, but what a lovely surprise this was. Thank you.
Special Police song for me is "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" because it features the singing of "EO" (also heard on Walking On the Moon) as found in the anagram pertinent to the LP "Ghost In the Machine": POLICE = IC EO LP. GITM features Sting singing "EO" , has an integrated circuit IC printed on the record sleeve, and the cover shows 666 in a mirror.
I never found "Every Breath you take" that breath taking. If I have a choice between it and most other Police/Sting Songs, I would go for anything else.
I think it has a lot of real, raw emotion in the vocals, it's very catchy, a legendary guitar riff, great production and him playing that standing bass is iconic
Sting wrote Every Breath You Take when Leo Sayer's I Love You More Than I Can Say was a big radio hit. Sting took a lot of that melody and put it in Every Breath.
The power of ''Every Breath You Take'' is that it is only a stalker song on the surface...if you go deeper, it is about someone having difficulties to cope with the lost of a loved one and a display of his heartbreak...who hasn't ever experienced that...
If you look carefully on TH-cam for a Breath or Man in New York you will see a video of an outdoor venue with a “ great pair” accompanying him. He certainly keeps “abreast” of things. And the outdoor venue is a “breast” of fresh air according to several comments. Even Sting is slightly distracted. Nothing better than two big hits.
Ok so am I the only who thought Sting was speaking to Trudie in this song when they first became a couple? I mean she did, maybe unintentionally, steal him from her best friend to whom he was married at the time... 🤔 Either way, there's no real mystery why the song is a huge hit, there's nothing subtle about any part of it...the lyrics grab you, the melody is making its point and the video presents the feel of all this to perfection.
Every breath means what I think about the first weeks I spent with my newborn daughter. Her mother got her thigh muscles torn, so I had the pleasure of being her everything apart from breastfeeding for her first experience as a child. 17 years after we still enjoy the special bond we made from the beginning of her wonderful journey.
I met Sting back in 1981, have to say he was a very polite charming guy, though he does have an air of uber sincerity 5 minutes into a conversation which many mistake for arrogance or snobbery.
Lovely music from a very creative soul. He gives honour to the Great Creator Who takes all the creations of his children and places them on His extremely large refrigerator! 😎
Gordie enjoyed 'Every Breath........' because he got to stymie the drummer, who sat at the back, fuming because he couldn't add his usual baroque-style flourishes!
He has alluded in recent times that it’s bass melody is copped from ‘stand by me’ but the song is great in its own right, well constructed and shall be around long after me.
I love his answer about Russia related to his song he wrote about Russians loving their children as well. He looks great and I have a feeling that's his yoga practice. He should mention spiritual techniques like meditation to help calm the world down.
Less...guarded, I think. Less in need of having the persona be his identity. If I interviewed him I'd ask, "Your nickname has become instantly recognizable and has been for a period spanning five decades. How has that person and the man who came before the nickname come to terms?".
Sting is one of my favourite artists of all time. I have all of the Police albums and I have Sting’s autobiography. He has always appeared thoughtful and intelligent. So his superficial comments about the Ukraine war surprised me. He is a musician and I’m sure very busy and possibly does not want to involve himself in politics. However I would encourage him to seek out the work of Professor John Meirsheimer, Prof. Richard Sachs, Prof. Naom Chomsky and others to educate himself on the interesting history and reasons for the war in Ukraine. It is not about Putin’s pride. Sting may realise that this is a very appropriate time to sing “Russians”.
He’s a great interviewer!
What intelligent, thoughtful questions and answers from both interviewer and interviewee.
Sting always reacts differently to interviews: He senses the intelligence and charisma of the person instantly. Legend! Also, well done interviewer--he wasn't over-awed by his subject!!
A very likable guy and a great interview with Sting!!!!! Love him!
Sting's the coolest. Such a unique sound to his voice.
Great interview with warm rapport! The interviewer was well balanced, intelligent, witty and managed to get the best out of Sting, one of our most talented and creative singers.
Absolutely a great interview and Sting is just right on about all his songs. Still the best musician of all time…
Not really. He's a legendary musician though.

One of the best interviews I have ever seen.
This interviewer is excellent ... he asks some really interesting questions ... interesting for Sting to ponder and for fans as well.

Yes I thought the thumbnail was Letterman talking about Sting lol
a great Man , Singer ,Songwriter bless him for his work ,his care for the planet
I really love sting. I wish the interviewer had asked him about one of his greatest songs I am an Englishman in New York. In another words
Thank you Sting for these wonderful moments of escape and serenity with The Police, and your solo albums, with this great talent shared with Stuart and Andy, without forgetting your commitment to the planet and people.
Every breath you take has great production. You forget the guitar is there. It’s like a phantom sound, the whole song is a texture
Let's not forget the drums !! Stewart Copeland is the man !
Andy's guitar is the song's signature

Everyone gets old! Never quite imagined Sting would look like someone’s cute grandfather.

he's a great interviewer - intelligent questions and he just shuts up and listens to the answers. Rare
Fantastic interview! I had the privilege of seeing the Police in the 80’s with great seats at the Capital Center (Washington, DC).

40 years ago I wrote a really good song and its still paying for my life in the Caribbean
Done fckval since then. Lol. Luv yu all Sting ❤
He's made a catalogue of solo albums and has had a number of massive hits since then.
@@JackSmith-hx8zh I as a non fan haven't heard any of these solo "hits" but know all the Police songs. Yeah funny, that. I'll give him his due, he still has his voice. Paul Young is a painful listen but no doubt has fans who'll defend him.

This interview is amazing!
I love absolutely everything in Stings portfolio of work, but my supreme absolute favorite thing he did was the fantasy special, "Peter and The Wolf."
