    Hi All! In this video I sing in chest voice 4 ways...3 of which are wrong. Guess which one is right!

    Now that I'm older I am learning to sing stronger with my head voice so I don't strain too much in my chest voice. With asthma I have to be careful. I don't want to ruin my voice. This was a great video. I pegged 4 as the correct one. Adele was the first one I thought of. Bit by bit I'm learning more things from your videos.

    I've been learning Indian classical music for almost 10 years. I don't know why, but I sort of flip into my head voice way before I should. I'm more comfortable with my head voice and I'm sort of afraid to sing in my chest voice as I go up. Is there any solution to this?

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You probably flip into head voice because chest feels very heavy as you sing higher and higher. Indian classical music is often sung all in chest with vowels that are open. The solution is to learn how to sing with a mix of chest and head voice, and to learn to narrow the vowels. This will take time and commitment to the process.

    Hey, again Chuck! The more videos I watch, the more help I’m realizing I need-even after singing 30+ years!😂🤦🏽‍♀️ I’ve always pulled chest in the past and is trying to bridge head tone now, but is obtaining a flipped falsetto.😮 How do I have my full (long) range have the same power as my chest tone? I also notice I keep a rounded BUT wide tone when I go up…what would you recommend?🤔 Oh, I tried the goo and duh exercise but when I incorporate words, it’s gone.😂😂🤦🏽‍♀️

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The larynx is coming up and that causes a flip or crack. To get a consistent connected tone that's the first step. Larynx down. As the voice get's balanced, the power can develop. The wide tone is often the result of wide or open vowels...which also pulls the larynx up. Words challenge us because there are constantly changing vowels and pitches. But you are making progress because now you are aware of the problem and why it's happening.

    What do I do every time, I try to sing or try to sing in chest voice. I always automatically start signing in my mix voice. Ive had vocal lessons and been training vocally for the past 10 years. Im currently 19, and since im a countertenor singing in my lower register is extremely difficult for me.

    • @EliStarSings
      @EliStarSings 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ChuckGilmore Usually I'm speaking in my mix voice and sometimes upper chest voice. Some coaches say it could be the uniqueness of my voice. As to add, I've been classified as a countertenor. So getting to the head voice rarely happens. Also it's hard to distinguish for my higher notes if it's in my chest or mix voice.

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes...it's very likely you don't even feel the first tenor bridge and you and pull the chest voice right into your second bridge. It may be better for you now to consider your first bridge to be A4, Bb,B,C5 and do the exercises normally for the women's voice. Then bring that vocal coordination down into the tenor first bridge of E, F, F#5, and the approach notes to the tenor second bridge of G, Ab5. Working your second bridge as if it were your first may help inform the first bridge. Even though it seems insignificant, the sooner the first bridge is correct, the sooner the second will begin behaving like you want. Some exercises to establish chest are open vowels like [a] as in "cat" very staccato. Also N [a] use with the 5 tone, Octave repeat and 1 1/2 scale on this open vocal and see if you can more fully establish chest. See what happens.

    As a trans woman I’ve had voice lessons to always keep my larynx high which has made me incapable of singing with my chest voice, so I use my head voice exclusively and while it works for some songs, it definitely doesn’t for all of them. I’m kind of at a loss. Any advice please?

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The only thing I can say, which works for all voices, is to be able to get into chest voice, you have to get the larynx down. Getting the larynx down will deepen the tone of your voice. So it depends on what you want the most. But if the larynx is high chest voice is more difficult.

      Yes...you have the same problem I had. You are pulling the chest voice too high. Once you are able to get into the bridge, you will experience a blend of chest and head voice which is so much easier. As the pitch ascends, you continue using the same vocal coordination into head voice and it feels effortless. It can happen quickly in the exercises. Singing confidently that way took me a while.

    While "Option 4" is good, it could be even better. Your F4 was WAY too "heady". There's no need to be that light on an F above Middle C. And this is my issue with SLS; training the voice to "mix" WAY too early into a light head tone. "Option 1" is the only damaging example; the others are simply someone singing without knowing what they're doing incorrectly and how to change it.
    But anyway, apart from my nitpicking, I like this video idea Chuck showing what the "wrong" techniques sound like first so people can identify which one they are and what the corrected sound should be like.
