I don't think a lot of people would consider Sonic 4 a dark era game, considering it got decent reviews at the time, but looking back, it really is the link between the dark era and the meta era. Cuz it sucks lol
Shadow the hedgehog levels look to me like adventure era equivalent of sonic forces levels (except you need to be more involved due to the nature of adventure era gameplay) A lot of rectangles. Was weirded out as a kid - Adventure DX and Heroes levels were a lot more busy and lively. This game's content need another shot, i am glad that it is ported, but wish for more changed. Sonic World's green forest/white jungle got those stupid (in the sa2 story context, as a level obstacle they are neat) chaos copies, shadow levels deserve design edits too.
