    *We just retired a 10 year old Keurig, similar to the new one **MyBest.Kitchen** the old one had a LCD display, but this new one seems like it is a little better as far as features. Turn it on, load it up, press the button and wait for the cup to fill. Much quieter than the old one. The amount*

    You saved me with the cap on the reservoir! The machine wasn’t priming properly it was sputtering and acting wack. I took that plug off and she purrs like a kitten. Thanks Nerd

    Very nice review . Good deal at this price .About the leaking its because after the steaming process the machine send all the extra steam with pressure at the left corner of the tray .If the tray removed you can see a white gasket at the left up corner. By adding a small elastic tube about 1cm into the gasket hole solve the problem and all the water run into the tray .About to warm the portafilter ,the only way is to run water before adding coffee and also warm your cup. This machine has no boiler it has thermoblock something like heat on demand. Also at the group head the place where the portafilter locks is made by teflon or some kind of plastic. So there is no metal to metal contact to transfer the heating from group to portafilter .

    Had mine for about 3 months and it has been very good. Wasn't aware of the little cleaning needles on that red thing so learned something new. Been using Lavassa Expresso and it tastes great.

    I discovered that when I am putting the portafilter on, the brew group needs to be perfectly level. If it is not level, it is really hard to seat it correctly, and it won’t lock. My first couple of times, I had put it in on a slight angle, and I got coffee grounds all over my new machine. Once I mastered putting it on correctly, I got a beautiful shot. It was delish!

      Mine went in fine from the first try, maybe yours needed a little convincing 😂
      But jokes aside it might be that you where overfilling your basket, how many grams did you put in? Because I believe to avoid any issues this portafilter is recommended for 18g of coffee.

      @@coffeenerd3778 I have the same experience: I don't weigh, but if I fill to brim, then it's very hard to turn. It's very smooth of its filled to half cm below brim.

    @Coffee Nerd, an answer for the spillage when filling the portafilter is a dosing ring, maybe. They make 'em for 58mm baskets, and it basically just extends the lip of the portafilter up about 1/2 of an inch. It could solve the problem! Anyway, thanks for the video. Might pick this machine up, my old Krups is tired.

      kathlud1 did you get the one with the grinder? Mine came today and it’s definitely an upgrade from my cuisinart EM-100. Quieter, better tasting shots (after about 2 hours of learning how to dial it in) and I can get much better milk texture. I’m not a barista but I love coffee and I think this machine is a good next step for me. What don’t you like about yours? Are you used to real espresso machines?

  • @chrometune
    @chrometune 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I tried ordering the unpressurized filter baskets on Calphalon's support form but was told they aren't available. After a bit of research it seems this same machine is also sold as the Sunbeam Mini Barista EM4300 in Australia. Then I was able to source the parts from an Australian ebay seller. My machine which I bought "open box" as-is turns out has a water leaking issue when priming before its first use. In fact the water heading for the portafilter all leaked out the bottom of the machine making it useless. The cause of this I found out after taking it apart and I saw that the plastic overpressure valve had cracked and was obviously defective. The exact part I was unable to find despite my efforts so I ended up substituting a similar replacement part from Delonghi. Finally everything is working now even better than new.

      I just ordered this machine and Im awaiting delivery next week, but it will be my 1st and Im confused about 2 things in this video. Is he saying that he'd like to replace the portafilter bc its aluminum and bc the handle may have issues in the future, or is it bc it doesnt hold non-pressurized baskets? This leads to my second question: how/why are non-pressurized baskets better, and what does single/double walled mean? And if it is best to get a different SS portafilter AND non-pressurized baskets, what would be the best replacements for these components that youve learned of in the past months? I don't know why everyone rags on aluminum. Al is a superb heat conductor and yes your concern that it won't hold heat well is correct, but the converse of that is that it will heat up much quicker than steel. That's a well known in cookware and can be used to advantage if one is aware of that as a pro rather than con. In the case of espresso I think I'd be happy the basket heats fast and can transfer it to the filter fast.

      So I've been using it couple of times a day for the last month, and I think it does a very good job. One thing I noticed is that there is some water in the floor of the machine outside of the bottom container that needs to be wiped off every so often. I know it's not water overflowing from the waste water collector or something. Seems to be condensation. Do you see the same thing, or is my machine defective some way?

    You can get a barista express for 450usd or so if you keep an eye on sales. Those machines are reliable and known. We had 4-5 of those at work servicing more than a hundred folks and they just ran and ran with not much care. Well, I was the one who ran the cleaning cycles for ours. The point is it comes with 4 baskets, 2 pressurized, 2 single walled so it is good to go out of the box.

    Great review, one important point I may have missed. How many grams of coffee were you able to get in the portafilter and what was your output? I saw that you used the scale, but I did not see a reading. I just got this machine and I love it, but I'm having trouble reconciling weight of coffee in/out with anything like a 40 g output. I'm getting almost twice that much with a double shot, and can't squeeze more than 18g of coffee into the filter. Thanks!

      This is ment for home use only, and if you read the warranty it specifically mentions how it will not cover any damages due to commercial use. I don't think this machine would last long if you were doing over over 10 cups each day. Commercial machines usually start around $1,000, they are specifically built to be able to handle extreme workloads and the warranty is geared towards commercial use.

      Yes I have, I ordered it from Breville, but it ended being tight, it worked for a week, but then I started noticing the new basket scraping off the portafilter seal, which in turn attributed to leaking. So if your fine with using the machine with just pressurized filters it will serve you well, or you need to find a single walled basket that would better fit this machine.
