Seahawks Study: Slick WR Jake Bobo is a D*MN PROBLEM! | Lockett Trade?!

  • Top Billin' analyzes why he believes there should be a changing of the guard for the Seattle Seahawks w/ regard to their WR corps with 2nd-year stud Jaxon Smith-Njigba being the clear No. 2 WR to DK Metcalf and surprise 2nd-year talent Jake Bobo being provided way more targets...which of course leads oft-rumored trade bait Tyler Lockett on the outside looking in or with a role that is reduced #Gohawks #seattleseahawks

    According to Lockett- doesnt want to leave or be traded & would consider retirement instead because of his growing & very successful real estate company in Seattle. Needs to stay..& with Grubb in the building..& if you go 4 spread with Lockett, Metcalf, JSN, & Bobo could be a nightmare/ incredible to witness!! As always keep up the great work, Bro! Go Hawks!!

      10 personnel is cool and all, but 11 personnel is what teams who win run because you need that physical threat of a TE to help with the run. And how much 10 personnel would be run in a game for that to even matter? 5 snaps?

      @TopBillinSports totally agree..I'm just thinking 2min, gotta go vertical..I see Bobo sneaking/ being the hero with " that catch"...& I do like Fant..I just wish he was more Gronk/ Kelce like..& if that was the case this would be the #1 WR core no questions!

      @@garysmart3586 - There's only 1 ball bro. The person without the ball has to still add value to the play. It sounds good in theory but eventually he won't be on the team. And all those guys were/are on the team, did any of that happen last season you're talking about?

      @garysmart3586 - Bro, I appreciate the comments, but I'm not trying to go down this. We don't know what Grubb's offense will do in the NFL to be doing the fantasy thing. I'll leave you to that and talk about the meat and potatoes of the sport. 10 personnel is asking for it in today's NFL where blocking is at a premium.

    TLock is that savy vet leadership that wr room needs. That room is strong Jaxon and Jake. One more year of maturity for DK, and new hc shd be positive too. TLock had 79 catches in '23, JSN had 63 so expect that to even out. Bobo only had 19 so expect that to grow as well. Gruff gonna have fun with this group.

    It's gonna be fun to see what Grubb does with all the weapons he has available. The UW offense was on a whole other level, and the Seahawks have similar skill position talent. What the Seahawks don't have is the O-line talent of UW (relatively speaking of course). If the OL can hold up, this offense could be spectacular, with no real reduction in targets for anybody, as the total volume will go up.

Patrick O’Connell even made it into a regular season game last year and recorded his first career tackle. Impressive as he was a udfa so making the team in the first place was damn impressive. I’ve been saying, Bobo is our best option for a corner fade in the end zone. We’ve seen that’s not DK’s specialty and Bobo is the next biggest receiver we got for that role. He’s got excellent toe tapping ability, he high points the ball and I hope if nothing else we see him as premier red zone personnel. He’s got the skills to be a real producer in this team.
    Curious what your thoughts are on Laviska Shenault Jr? I’ve admittedly only looked at a small sample of his highlight reel but he looks like a serious YAC producer, showing some running back skills as well and not being afraid to lower his shoulder and run through a defender. It makes me really wonder how much Lockett is gonna be useful in Mike Grubbs offense given how Grubb likes to use screen passes and do a lot of misdirection pre snap. If we’re in 11 personnel and DK and JSN are the 1&2 then it might be preferable to have Bobo or Shenault for that last spot knowing those guys are so much more physical and willing to run through people. Lockett might be a liability in a 3rd down situation if he’s not willing to fight for the first down.

    I had the same realization about Tyler - that if pressed, we could make it without him thanks to the Bobo / Smith-Njigba combination. I don't want him to go. Hell, he took a home town discount to stay. However, that may have more to do with his local real estate business. I watch for the great analysis that you back up with film and commentary. Thanks for giving Bobo his props! I listen to the game at work and Raiblealways has great things to say about Bobo. I watch the highlights when I get home and yeah, I was really impressed with Bobo last year and I was hoping he would survive this overhaul.
    I know Lockett is starting to age out, and you're right about him going down quick after a catch, but he also was getting most of the clutch situations where Geno looked to him (I only remember one true drop by him last year). Tyler Lockett deserves to retire as a Seahawks all the way through, if for nothing else that he proves that he can still run a great route and clutch catch. With him as a #4, teams will sleep on him for that reason alone, and he will burn them.

    I can see something happening with Lockett next year when his cap hit goes from $19M to $30M. The dead cap this year would be $12.6 and would go down to $4M next year. From a game perspective, I've heard of doing things a year too early is better than a year too late so it would make sense to do something now but I think it would have been better to have done it before the draft. There aren't many teams, if any, with cap room and although there is always a way to make cap space, there will still be less teams interested meaning the compensation would be less. I think that Schneider is one of the best GM's and he probably thought this through and the conclusion was a rework on the contract with the understanding that this is the last year.

    @JT-lk1rv 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    With the type of looks Grubb likes to give the defense, Bobo is probably better/more valuable to that scheme. Lockett is still the more valuable talent, but Bobo can pretty much do it all outside of just running routes and catching the ball. Obviously it won’t show on the stat sheet for the value a guy like Bobo brings to that scheme compared to Lockett, but you’ll see things like 11 or 12 personnel with a TE like Fant out wide motion into a bunch formation with a guy like DK, JSN or Lockett at the point with the inside WR in off the hip of the tackle 3 yards off the line of scrimmage to throw in chip blocks to seem route combos, help in the run game, etc. and Bobo fits the part perfectly. Lockett will do his thing but Bobo is gonna be the unsung hero with his help in the run and making the tough catches down the stretch, if he gets the reps.
    I wonder what Seattle would get for Lockett? Either he would go to a ring chasing team that wants that extra help, or he goes to a team with a young developing QB and depleted depth at WR. Both scenarios I feel like would get just 1 maybe 2 day 3 draft picks at this point in his career and the cap he carry’s

    With how good the relationship has been between Lockett and the Seahawks, and his pay readjustment, I feel like Seattle won't move him and let him ride it out here. We'll see if it applies to the offense and we don't know how good grubb is in the nfl, but i feel like having jsn and bobo on the field at the same time aligns more with the team that they are trying to build. Liking your own comment is kinda goofy, bro. The objective should be to spread the ball around as the Hawks have a ton of talent beyond Lockett. JSN can be his equal as soon as next season and I believe he's a better talent period because he's more physical and can run routes just like Lockett. Not as fast in a straight line but that doesn't matter. Give him an inch, and he'll take a mile. Having Bobo out the.. man, I already said all this in the video lol

    Merf, the reason Tyler Lockett goes down so easily is, obviously, he doesn't want to take sa big hit. Let me say I've got nothing but respect and admiration for the man. About 7 years ago he had a severe injury that just about shattered his leg. He had to have screws put on his leg t make it heal. After that he wasn't the same player. He used to return punts, and was very exciting and was a leading punt returner in the NFL. All that changed after the horrific injury. He's still a superb receiver. Can get open like nobodies business. But the days of Tyler Lockett fighting for extra yardage (unless the game is on the line) is behind us. All that being said, I believe he's got some of the best hands to ever grace the NFL.

      Thanks for watching and responding, but I didn't necessarily say "better off," but I do believe they wouldn't miss a beat and there will be value added in other aspects of the offense with an elevated trio like that. However, I also acknowledged how good the guy is despite being softer than a toddler's ass because of his route running and hands (at least when nobody is around him). Lockett gave up $24m to remain a Seahawk and his salary hit next season is less than a night out at Dave and Busters. Still one of the best low-percentage catch receivers in the league and should be good for another 800 yards season in 24-25. However, as Murph Said, he goes down quickly after the catch, he's just too good at getting free (especially at the line of gain) to write off quite yet.
    I believe Bobo has some of the best hands in the business and if he can get into space, will always be a threat. I'm 100% Mo' Bobo but in reality, I see him being a perennial 4th receiver, hopefully playing many, many years for the 'hawks, but he's as explosive as a bag of cooked macaroni, which will always limit his gameday opportunities

    • @TopBillinSports
      @TopBillinSports  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And you derived his lack of explosiveness from what, hearing the announcers mention some useless 40 time every game? Because there's no way you came to this conclusion watching the dude actually play in the NFL where he's getting by DBs with ease. Close your ears and open up nyour eyes and stop buying into lazy propaganda, bro. Can you point to an example of what you mean for me? Like, give me a specific game and tell me where Bobo was cooked macaroni against a DB?

    • @Hawkskull
      @Hawkskull 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TopBillinSports In a few Seahawks games, he was a punt gunner, without a single tackle to his name (Week 16 at Titans for example)
      In that same game the "almost catch" (1st quarter) he made an excellent attepted catch whilst harrassed by both free safeties, but he was just a little too far downfield. If he'd had a little more explosivity there, he'd have pivoted a fraction quicker and not only been in free space, but also wouldn't have had to dive to catch the ball.
      I don't see him getting past DBs very often, what I do see is him selling them short on routes he's running and leaving them facing the crowd when he's catching the ball inside the numbers. He's got limited weapons, he's putting them to incredible use, but he's just a little shy of being another "insert any elite WR in the league" but he's a phenomenal Jake Bobo and I can't wait to see him improve in his second NFL year.

    • @TopBillinSports
      @TopBillinSports  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Hawkskull - I applaud the effort, but you sound crazy to me.
      You think everything is about the deep ball and just running fast, like a casual fan. Michael Thomas is slow as shit and was on his way to rewriting the history books, before injury, and even outpacing people like Julio Jones who are freak athletes because he understands how to run routes...
      90% of the route tree is transitional routes. That's why slower WRs like Michael Thomas, CeeDee Lamb, and Cooper Kupp are dominating because there's an emphasis now on actual route running opposed to freak athletes who just run deep all game.
      Let's be real: You see a white guy who they told you ran a slow 40 time and you can't get past that despite him clearly showing he has what it takes.
      He's going to destroy people in the quick- and mid-range game and pile up catch after catch after catch if provided the opportunity.

    Tyler had a life-threatening injury that meant he couldn’t fly home with the team, and one of the worst leg fractures this side of Joe Theisman. Up through the 2022 season, he was infallible making impossible catches, so if he didn’t gain a yard of YAC, he was still more valuable than 80% of the receivers in the league. I’ll take a living Lockett making catches over a crippled or retired one any day. (BTW, he had a visible dropoff last year, saw him drop half a dozen balls which feels like about his previous career total. But 🤞🏼 for return to form this year.)

      Dude, shut up. I don't need excuses for why a man jumps on the ground nor is his leg fracture a secret.
      Old dude from the Bills literally almost died and went into cardiac arrest on the field and came back still tackling.
      And the Lockett fracture was pretty bad, but it wasn't even from him being tackled in a head-on situation. In fact, the chances of you fracturing your leg from a head-on tackle are pretty slim. It's drag-down tackles that fracture your leg, which NONE of the situations people point out with him are.
      And Alex Smith had the worst leg fracture since Theismann, not Lockett, and he came back still scrambling and taking on the tackles of linebackers not little ass DBs like Lockett has to deal with.
