Now he is one of the singers for The Jay Sekalow band along with Kansas ex-lead singer John Elefanti. Jay Sekelow is one of the lawyers representing Trump in the impeachment trial.
Head Head used Two lead singers, two lead guitars. Keyboard player wrote this tune. It was their only hit. They opened this show for Heart. '79? I was in LA working in the Motion Picture Ind. & Playing in Clubs(musician). Lifelong guitarist/singer.
I've met the lead singer. I used to do radio promotions for him and have met him on several occasions. He is an absolutely awesome person. He went on to win several Grammy's. One of the best songs of the golden era of Rock.
This song reminds me of college.... Long story, but while in high school, one of my friends from childhood started a rock band and he wanted me to be in the band, as the bass player. As I never played an instrument, I told him I can't. He told me not to worry, that he would teach me. But my parents were dead set against it, so I never learned how to play bass, nor play in the band. Fast forward to college - working at the college radio station, one of my follow DJ's needed a bass player for his band and wanted to know if I played the bass. Missed 2nd opportunity to be in a band. That band's main song was "Never Been Any Reason".
I was in High School when this came out.....the same HS that drummer Steve Huston had graduated from a few years earlier (Woodlawn, IL for the curious). Our bus driver was cool and we had an 8-track player on the bus - we wore this tape out. I love the Flat as a Pancake album and here's a bit of trivia for the fans; Jefftown Creek is an area south of Woodlawn where all the kids went to party.
Believe it or not, "You Shook Me All Night Long" actually sounds like "Never Been Any Reason" as NBAR was released nearly 6 years before AC/DC released YSMANL. It's also worth mentioning that Head East and AC/DC did some concerts together. Maybe Angus Young was "inspired" by their opening act ;)
I first heard a demo record of them at a music store in Oklahoma when I was in college, and after college I worked stage crew for a handful of bands and once for them in '78. Still have all there albums.
thank you for playing Head East. I remember them from my days in college. I am from southwest mo. so we loved Head East as well as Reo Speedwagon and the Ozark Mountain Daredevils all kind of a southern hillbilly rock sound that whole flat as a pancake album had great songs my favorite was Jefftown Creek or City of Gold it would be nice to play one of those or REO song 157 Riverside avenue
This is one of those times when "you had to be there"... If you were in that crowd in the late 70s or early 80s, when everybody knew this song, then hearing it live would have been transcendent. But this recording is frankly not as "tight" as the studio track on the original album. Fun fact, I gave a copy of this album ("Flat as a Pancake") to a buddy who's a few years younger than me who had never heard them before, but he's been a Dead-Head since the late 80s... he absolutely loved it. He said it was like discovering a great new band back when he was a teenager. There are several standout tunes on that album, but the whole thing is pretty solid.
Another band similar to Head East, from the same time frame, Loverboy, there songs "Working for the Weekend", "Turn Me Loose" were their greatest hits, and Def Leppard, "Hysteria", "Love Bites", "Pour Some Sugar on Me" etc.
The first time I heard this was in high school. The Red Cross had put together a promo video they were showing the seniors for donating blood and this song was background music for the video. The studio version is better.
Good song! I know you like live versions, I've never heard/seen this concert version, but always loved to sing along to this song on the radio! "Save my life I'm going down for the last time! Woman with the sweet love better then a white line" 🎶
Aww, I love this group and Flat as a Pancake album. Everytime I put that baby on I would start dancing. I got to see them in college and it was so much fun. Still have my albums! I listened from the 70s in college onto work and moving and all of it, they went with me. Be safe everyone on here.
Hmm, where was I when this was being played ? Oh yes I was at this concert, it was a blast. Went to every concert that came through back in the 70's. There was just so much great music to hear back then and it was all new. You missed out brother.
It seems everyone is acting like this was the only song they produced. If you could please try "Elijah" from the live album, you will see this is a powerhouse band.
John Stringham I’d recently moved to SL when I heard this fantastic album-Flat As A Pancake. Definitely a mid-west group. Gulp-I was in High School. Man, I’m old. LOL And yes there are more great songs better than this. This was the single. Listen to album version Love Me Tonight!
Being from St. Louis I know this band well and yes big in St. Lou but not big in other areas. There is another artist that is/was huge here but no one knows of called JD Blackfoot. It would be worth a check. Try The Ultimate Prophecy and The Song of Crazy Horse. They both look at the Native American side of spirtituality.
I owned a record store for a time and had some JD Blackfoot, which I believe the previous owner got directly from him when he lived in Arcadia Mo, not far from here. I believe Blackfoot has since moved back to Ohio.
Stephanie Thurmer I remember hearing about Blackfoot & probably know some of their music. BTW, I worked at Peaches. Heard so much music obscure & mainstream. Still have some of crates
You might check out their song Brother Jacob. You needn't review it but it's a fun tune. They had several good tunes. The album Flat as a Pancake was loaded.
I don't know if you've been posting so much did Ryan make me happy but you have thank you so much it makes me feel very grateful and I see your heart next to my comments thank you so much I actually feel a part
No I don't have your email address I'd have to go through all your videos to find it out I guess but you got my number you can send your email via messenger I have that I don't Instagram I barely Facebook 2
@@billsager5634 absolutely ... any of Bowie's live Heroes, Bob Seger's Travelin' Man/ Beautiful Loser (in fact anything live by Bob) are insane live, it's the mixing and microphone location, but some guys bring it live, Sam Cooke and Ella Fitzgerald are like that. Almost like you never heard them before.
This was the last song played at a nightclub I used to go to. NEBRASKA😎 "Lovin' from a sweet woman is better than a white line". The white line is cocaine. This song is very poppy for being about a near fatal drug overdose.
There is 2 albums of Flat as a pancake 1st album made in 1974 in Pekin Illinois 5000 albums & 500 8tracks! Then in 1975 A&M Remade Flat as a pancake album most have! The only difference beteew 1&2 is the cover and side 1 on the A&M album is side 2 on 1st album! Other then that the recording is the same!
I love all music I love rock I live hip-hop R&B country jazz Violin Orchestra Opera but I don't get this and I can see by your confused face it's kind of like I'm not sure about this one it's not to the expectations of everybody else so he may have played a keyboard in his arms but it's not a notable song so
But it seems the sound of every 70 song I mean I heard that song from that band for the first time but it sounds very similar to another song I heard back in those days I just can't put my finger on it
Thank you for all the sweet stuff you've been posting it makes me happy to see funny stuff and you're awesome quite funny I love it thank you so much I love your quirkiness and thank you for sharing the name of your dog I know you keep a lot of things sacred to yourself but your dogs really cute
I'm giving you a heart back because I appreciate everything you do for me are you quirky and funny your you've been posting up on a lot of funny things lately is that for me to make me laugh cuz you're doing a good job funniness
Never heard this before.. however, truly the opening I thought was AcDC’s Shook Me All Night Long, TOTALLY agree... was ok... not for me, but I did enjoy the concert version ... 🖤
I saw Head East over 45yrs ago!!! Kansas opened for them. Takes me way back!
Absolutely one of the best songs ever!
Dazed and confused was an awesome movie..my life in the 70s..LOLOLOL
I found this cassette in the seat cushion of a 66 newport I bought back in 1980. I wore that tape out, playing this song over and over. lol
Lead singer John Schlitt went on to become the frontman for the Christian rock band Petra from '86-'05.
Now he is one of the singers for The Jay Sekalow band along with Kansas ex-lead singer John Elefanti. Jay Sekelow is one of the lawyers representing Trump in the impeachment trial.
Can you recommend any songs?
Petra was the best christian band EVER!!
They played at my high school in the mid 70's Belleville ILL. High School West. They were great 👍
They used play at our High School dances back in the day here in Central Illinois.
THIS is why im a proud 70s BRAT Our music was FANTASTIC
Head Head used Two lead singers, two lead guitars. Keyboard player wrote this tune. It was their only hit. They opened this show for Heart. '79? I was in LA working in the Motion Picture Ind. & Playing in Clubs(musician). Lifelong guitarist/singer.
Keyboard player Roger Boyd didn't write this was wrote by lead guitarist Mike Sommerville about being on the road and a relationship that went bad!
It sure does sound like a great song to rap up a concert. 70’s get-sure. Nice to hear this again.
That really flashes me back. Thank you.
I love this song and I agree with a previous comment, the studio version would have been a better option.
I’ve been waiting for this song!
John Schlitt lead singer for Head East quit & joined Petra Christian Rock Band & till this day he can still wail
John Didn't quit was fired due to drug addiction back then!
I've met the lead singer. I used to do radio promotions for him and have met him on several occasions. He is an absolutely awesome person. He went on to win several Grammy's. One of the best songs of the golden era of Rock.
Studio version better for first reaction. This jams. MRM don't like no cocaine talk, tho' Excellent follow up.

One of my favorite one hit wonders
Thanks TY✌
You were right on MRM. This was the final song of the set when I saw them. Glad you enjoyed the song!
I first heard a demo record of them at a music store in Oklahoma when I was in college, and after college I worked stage crew for a handful of bands and once for them in '78. Still have all there albums.
Man thats whats up. Been a fan for 20+ years. But a fan of Schlitt for almost 35 years. Petra. Right? Love his vox and love Head East.
Love this song and John Schlitt on higher vocals. He also sand for the christian band Petra. Thanks for playin this song. A fave for sure!

They were the sound track of my high school years
Woman with the sweet love, better than a white line
Appears John Schlitt still sings that line too... Even when he performs it in a church.
@@john-stringham Well, he's just being real...the LORD appreciates honesty
YOU NAILED IT TY ,,IT WAS THE 70s,, Such a great decade for FANTASTIC music
Another band similar to Head East, from the same time frame, Loverboy, there songs "Working for the Weekend", "Turn Me Loose" were their greatest hits, and Def Leppard, "Hysteria", "Love Bites", "Pour Some Sugar on Me" etc.
Loved this. Sure paid off having older siblings
Saw them open for Rush at the Civic Center in Asheville, NC in the late 70’ or early 80’s.
The first time I heard this was in high school. The Red Cross had put together a promo video they were showing the seniors for donating blood and this song was background music for the video. The studio version is better.
I saw these guys in 1979 at the California world music festival, I wasn't familiar with their music at the time but they put on a good show.
Good song! I know you like live versions, I've never heard/seen this concert version, but always loved to sing along to this song on the radio! "Save my life I'm going down for the last time! Woman with the sweet love better then a white line" 🎶
lol i was hanging out at the park with hippies when this song came out getting body painted with peace signs and flowers lol
Saw them open up for Cheap Trick & KISS at Cobo Hall in Detroit!

Dazed and Confused brought me here...
I have always loved this song, I don't know who the drummer is but he kills the skins in this!!
Drummer and 1st vocals in this song is Steve Huston sadly he passed a couple months ago!
A favorite of mine
It seems everyone is acting like this was the only song they produced. If you could please try "Elijah" from the live album, you will see this is a powerhouse band.
Oh yeah!!!!! Head East!!!!!! Can't wait!
Huge hit for Head East. a couple other songs were ok, but this was the Big one. Guess you could say they were "One Hit Wonders."
Mid 70s output from an underrated St Louis band one of those songs where no one seems to know the real title (Is it "Save My Life...?")

Edgar Winter did the portable keyboard thing in the early '70s.
Ah this song and an ex and his drunken 3 am calls.yep.
You might check out their song Brother Jacob. You needn't review it but it's a fun tune.
They had several good tunes. The album Flat as a Pancake was loaded.
Cool, had never heard this live
College it was old then Classic. Head East playing college bars
Saw Head East in the late 70s, they were good. They did a good cover of Since You've Been Gone also.
Good One !
Great song from the 70s at times it sounds like The Cars.
I remember. this one
You need to go on you tube and check a video of a group of kids covering this song, it’s pretty good
yep. then out the door. '82
Studio version of this and also Monkey Shine
Never Been Any Reason
MRM if you like live performances may I suggest"inside looking out"live in 1969 by Grand Funk Railroad. They put the FU in funk ☮️
Know the words by heart, but not ready for American idol
Once the music starts, I can sing along to almost all your requests if it's old school rock
I don't remember if you mentioned it but you have a really cute puppy what's his name
Baylian
Balian they didn't spell it right on spell check sounds like thespian very smart dog

This is why you never listen to a live version. They are almost always much worse than the studio version.
Depends on the artist. Many songs are better live than studio. Have any doubts? Check out Queen.

I think I had a copy of ‘Gettin’ Lucky’ back in the 1970s...
I think I still have my copy as well as the traffic sign album
This was the last song played at a nightclub I used to go to. NEBRASKA😎
"Lovin' from a sweet woman is better than a white line".
The white line is cocaine. This song is very poppy for being about a near fatal drug overdose.

Oh god you should not have done a live version. Please don't judge the song on this, the studio version is amazing and the live version is abysmal.
That 'Key'tar though.
