At last. Someone who knows what's going with tongue shape. Brass players are into it. Sax teachers in the Educational system don't seem to know. How many of these "Sax as a 2nd instrument" guys would you book for a gig? Here is an example of good teaching from a man who can PLAY. The best free lesson you'll ever get.
I love the way Randal gets his point across, this was very helpful. I just purchased my first Tenor Cannonball Saxophone. It has a great tone and feel to it and of course it looks great!
Very Very helpful. THe tongue and oral cavity and firm flow of air is everything. And the embouchure should be firm. I often see even great jazz players move their embouchure so much looks like theyre chewing on the mouth piece
Many thanks for this demonstration and explanation, Randal. I am trying to teach myself to play, as a second instrument and one of the majorproblems I have been facing has been the idea ofpitch bending a note... I managed it using mouth shape, but this new technique is one that I shall be looking at tomorrow when the time is more sociable.
haha awesome learned new stuff and got better today xD i've been bending with my lips forever :D I'm still having a problem getting away from my anchor tonguing problem though :(
Great explanation! I have never heard it so cleanly put. Excellent.

When you say it sounds harsh and cold, it's actually way cooler than what you say it's good
It sounds like a bad middle school tenor player. His sound is way cooler than that.
