@@meganhey2582 ok. So there's no real world crossing. People can either see through the mist or they can't at all. If one of them did turn to stone, the mist would either make them believe that they either had less people or it would summon another worker to replace them and have them believe that that worker was always there instead of the one that was stone. The mist always explains away anything magical, including deaths. It doesn't allow anyone normal to see through it, regardless of circumstances
I heard that the cuts to black were made for the sub level of disney+ where people get ads, on top of potentially representing chapter breaks. they could definitely be smoother though but i wouldn't know how to pull that off in a show like this
what's super weird is that i have d+ with ads (too broke for no ads lmao) and some of the cuts don't even line up with ad breaks,, so it feels pretty jarring
@@nebullaethey don't line up with the chapter breaks either. There's a cut right when they're inside Medusa's house and I'm pretty sure the episode doesn't end there lol

The reason why Gabe was tone down because they didn't want to make him so awful because viewers would turn off the show. I would like to point out Percy doesn't know how awful Gabe is.
Who said that? That's just an assumption.
I think Gabe is just as awful in the books, we just haven't seen it yet.

I think they might save the reveal about him being an absolute shit person at the end where Percy realizes in real time. Cause I think it was sort of similar in the book and that it took Percy seeing his mom flinch reflexively around Gabe toward the end of the book that he realized Gabe had been hitting his mom while he was away

I think a lot of the time the cut to black scenes are where the chapters would end in the book because they combine multiple chapters into one episode

I really like how they portrayed medusa, it feels more mature than the books although the casting is now age accurate. Let's remember it's a kid show with kids actors but in a really complex mith/real world

Nothing is more joyous and contagiously smiley than watching Aaron genuinely show interest and ask questions and guess things about Percy Jackson and Jo like unable to hide how happy it makes him like this is the best part of friendship just sharing what you love with the people you love and those people like genuinely putting effort into it like this makes my heart so full to watch
i feel so far the main problem this show has is the pacing like the pacing is so bad but its still solvable so hopefully the rest of the eps might have better pacing or if it gets renewed then they could fix that in s2
I totally agree. It’s kinda ruining the show for me tbh, I feel like I can’t get into a scene for very long before it’s cutting to the next :(

I think the amount of episodes + the episode length has it constrained. Streaming services are limiting their shows to 8-10 eps max, and then in this show the eps arent a consistently long length. I think they shouldve all been like 50min each to fit in more, but some are only 30

for me, it feels similar to the books. I read them all recently and everything tends to move pretty fast, especially in the first book. but i also read fast! i wish they spent more time on fight sequences though
I was actually talking about the bus scene with one of my friends and we kinda agreed that they won’t do the whole bus scene since it ends with them blowing it up and ya…not sure we can do that anymore. But ya that was just our idea

I feel like the cut to blacks are for the commercial breaks on Disney+, but there's so many that it really pulls you out of it as soon as you're getting invested.
I think that the show being half an hour long instead of hour long episodes are the main issue with the show. I think that it feels like it's rushing through information instead of letting us soak it up. But overall the cinematography, the cgi, the sets/filming locations, and especially the acting is amazing in my book.
i would like to vote for another house of anubis episode as well lol. THAT is peak acting and cinematography.

My theory about the cuts to black in the show is that they are future proofing the show for the inclusion of ads. Whether they add commercials to Disney+, or show the series on the Disney Channel, having those cuts gives a place where they can naturally put ad breaks, just like they used to do with TV shows. I could be wrong, but that’s my reasoning.
ahh my favourite youtubers reacting to my favourite book series !! honestly, i have pretty much the same criticisms as jo. i hate the way they toned down gabe, because it makes him feel almost comedic without any weight (which provided percy's and sally's characters with so much depth in the book), so if they don't change his ending, it will not feel earned and make certain characters seem like villains rather than furthering their character arc. in general, they toned down a lot of the more serious moments and made the fights less brutal (which i get because disney), but as a fan it is still kinda disappointing. i also wish we spent more time at the camp and seen percy learn sword fighting from luke. on the trio's relationship i'm also not completely sold yet, since i feel like grover's character is a little different to the books (he almost gets sidelined, for example his searcher license not even being mentioned yet) and him and percy seem very distant to me... i am also missing a little bit of the book's humour, the show feels a little flat and too serious at times. but yeah, i guess i could go on and on about things that didn't meet my expectations, but as i expect pretty much perfection (because i have so much love for the story), i don't think the show will ever meet them. i am still absolutely happy about the adaptation though, there is also so much positive to say and i'm so excited for the next episode :)

Or maybe I'm just tired of this show being punched with criticism, idk.
@@2Navalie yeah i meant more in non-fight sequences (even though i do think that in fight scenes humour would add that unique touch that the books had, like let me tell you the way i hollered when percy slipped out on piss on a monster in one of the toa-books). i guess it's probably hard because a lot of the humour stems from percy's inner monologue and as a long-time reader you'll probably feel like something's missing because of that reason...
and yes you're absolutely right, the criticism is a LOT and i should definitely focus more on the parts they did right (they did a lot right don't get me wrong), i guess the expectations are just really high, because the movies were what they were and, just me personally, i love this book series so much, it's my comfort book series and i read it more than i can count so disappointment is kind of inevitable...

The stone Cyclops looks GOOD.
I mean that it looks way different than I thought it would (I thought it would be just a guy with an eye in the middle of his nose bridge). They made it look truly monstrous in an original way.

I love seeing Jo smiling the whole time and Aaron just willy-nilly playing along haha. I agree the bus scene was disappointing for me. Not only cuz they got off easy but Percy has a fighting sequence with the furies in the books and then there's a huge explosion after the three make it out. I kinda wish the bus exploded tbh
