This really helped me with my own writing. I have a problem with overcrowding my casts, and having characters that just exist for the sake of existing. I would love to hear more about your story, it's very interesting.

I’m glad this was of help! I definitely know what that’s like, I’ve had many characters like that and it’s hard to say goodbye if they really aren’t serving a plot purpose. Sometimes you don’t rlly need to get entirely rid of them tho, you could have a few be side/background characters😄

One of my current projects is a contemporary fantasy a little inspired by shows like RWBY and Arcane. One of the bases of this story are the colors of the rainbow. There are 7 kingdoms, in 7 regions with 7 guardians of magical lanterns that carry immense powers that only specific people can use.
With each kingdom and nation being inspired by the colors of the rainbow, each has its own cultures and themes, being separated from each other due to an ancient war. The protagonists are all children who one day begin to hear whispers that guide them somewhere in their world, these whispers are the lanterns.
Each of the 7 protagonists carries a specialty based on these lanterns. They also have their color palettes based on the colors of the rainbow. The magic system is based on colors, each person in this world has a colored soul and depending on the color they can have different powers, as each color is also based on the powers of the lanterns.
I'm working on this project, but I basically did exactly what you did and made a board on my Pinterest to keep my sources of inspiration for the world I'm creating!
What I have in mind at the moment for the plot is:
In the beginning there was a being like a god, who created the world of Lanteria using their flames, which would become the lanterns and would be given to their disciples. One of the disciples hated how rotten and "broken" the inhabitants of Lanteria were, seeing that this wouldn't change this disciple tried to steal the lanterns for herself with the intention of destroying the world and starting everything over again as SHE wanted.
When she tried to do this, her magic was corrupted, darkening the color of her soul. She was then sealed in a dark realm where she could never return to cause suffering, but her attempt to corrupt the lanterns caused the creation of creatures called Leekers, monsters intent on destroying everything they touch.
The original creator of Lanteria ceases to exist, and the lanterns are kept stored in temples around the world, where generations of new lighters would arrive to protect the lanterns' magic, with the full intention of maintaining the harmony of the world.
Various events happen such as the evolution of dragons into a subspecies that manages to change into a human form to escape the fear and discrimination that many had of them. Groups called Gradiants were created to protect each nation. Schools were built to create new Gradients.
A long war occurred that kept all the nations separate and hostile towards each other. and rebellious disciple began hunting for people who would accept to help, corrupting their souls and granting twisted versions of their magic.
    And finally the protagonists, 7 children from around the world ending up in the same place, the starting point for their stories and connections with the lanterns. That's all I have for now, what do you think?;w;

@@laraprisma6381 woah!!! Lanteria is such a cool idea, I love the lantern concept and the idea of a war at bay keeping the character’s nations hostile. There’s a lot to explore there, especially with characters that are from the separate hostile nations. Does this affect how they view each other at first? Is there any resentment held?
The dragon subspecies is also really interesting!! Really shows Lanteria’s complexity. Would love to hear more abt this in the future!!

      @@senioralfy Long text in coming!
I want to show how the new generation of children are not held back by the cruelty and prejudice of others, being allowed to be themselves and on their journeys, even with difficulties in understanding each other, they do not see themselves as different even coming from a hostile world who judges them for not fitting into the social box that was created.
The story focuses on these kids being open-minded, following their hearts instead of the prejudice that has been forced on them for years. for example, dragons are seen as monsters, so if someone sees a dragon they call hunters, it doesn't matter if it is a baby or a harmless dragon, just the image of a dragon is enough to scare people.
them being able to change shape to hide among humans gives them the chance to prove that they are not monsters. One of the main characters is a dragon, and he has seen the result of people and dragons being peaceful before, it didn't end well for both sides since in this world being friends with a dragon is considered a crime equal to terrorism.
So he hides his identity to keep the group and himself safe, in addition to being more distant and only staying close to help them, not to become their friend. but eventually one of the characters discovers his secret, and not only accepts him and doesn't see him as a monster, but also keeps it all a secret, creating trust between them.
There are also hybrids and Anthros, these also suffer discrimination, basically they are beings similar to humans but without the same privileges, and hybrids are treated as abominations.
Of course, the main characters represent hope and love, they don't see their differences as something negative, they love their differences and flaws and fight to protect the oppressed in their world, as they too were once oppressed.
The story is about open-mindedness, and that prejudice and discrimination is hateful and bad. Yeah, my story could easily be considered "Woke" in current terms, and I don't care. My stories help me express what I feel, and if I want, I will make a story that criticizes the society we live in.
As an autistic and queer artist, I want to tell a story about outcasts, people who in real life society wouldn't understand and would ignore when they need it most. I hope I didn't sound too cringe with all of thisTwT

@@laraprisma6381 not “cringe” or “too woke” whatsoever. Media needs to have stories like that so that others feel seen and the world grows kinder to those who are prejudiced.
I totally get you in the outcast bit. My own story doesn’t delve too deeply into queer topics, though there are plenty of characters who are queer. I chose to focus more on the matter of immigrants and the suffering that comes with loosing a home you may never see again. I speak from experience, and I want to finish creating this story so that it spreads a message and a little more sympathy for those who came from foreign countries to start all over again.
What I’m getting at is that it’s important to have these stories. Don’t let anyone’s hatred get in the way of that^^
