I stopped playing MTG. Sold the cards when they actually had a value. No one wants to play anymore except the hard core. Physical cards are a dying breed.
Not funny and no need for context to be considered. You just pushed your own racist issues onto this video where it is not placed nor makes any sense. Lastly. Grow up and stop pushing your own racist issues.
I love how hard she's trying to keep it family friendly. Felicia: "I like to be on t...you know stay up there" Felicia: "Just finish me off please..." ::Opens eyes wide and smirks::
The long-awaited showdown has arrived: It's Day9TV VS. Felicia Day in a Magic: The Gathering battle for the centuries. Here's some trivia: Which color deck does Felicia absolutely detest?
That would be white. I believe she thought white were a "bunch of douche bags" and no I totally didn't just know that off the top of my head. That would be weird and obsessive. Stop judging me.
"I like to be on top." "Just finish me off, please." "I'm trying. I'm trying so hard." If these two don't get married I don't wanna live on this cruel planet anymore.
If you two every suffer an unfortunate accident, we'll have to stitch you back together and raise you as the undead abomination: FeliciaDay[9] (it may take more than 8 tries)
The last time I played MtG was probably 99' and I lived in a small town with little to no other players so I fell out of it very quickly but now with the interwebs being the way they are I can just play online against randoms :P I understand the game but I'm not very good at setting up or even reading plays, this video series is very helpful at giving info and just basic strategy :D with Magic Duels being out along with me finding this series I'm happy to say I'm getting back into it and really enjoying myself lol. So I'd like to thank you for giving Magic such a positive look and helping me rekindle my joy for it! (also the reason this comment is on such an old video is because I'm loving this series so much I've went back and watched almost every episode in the last two days haha :P)
im in pretty much the exact same situation as you (minus actually playing the tabletop game, noone i know have been interested or willing to pay the amount of money required to make a decent standard deck.) and the magic duels game is pretty much what i needed to get into magic. ive been playing hearthstone for a while but i think ill stop in favor of magic since i much prefer the general direction magic is going/has been and how little RNG there is to the compared to hearthstone.
Derpston Hale It is kinda funny, the online game sucked me in and then went down constantly for the first three days and got me missing it so much I ordered an Origins booster box so I can try and start playing irl again seeing as I don't live in a bush town anymore haha.
I'd love to see multiple games between players to show more of the deck, since a bad draw can make for a quick relatively boring game. Also seems a shame to go through all the trouble with the studio for one game (unless you recorded all of them in a few sessions, which would make more sense actually)
And at 6:55, the Dr, Hannah Strategy is put in play. (See the Last Night on Earth episode of Table Top if you don't know the reference.) Detailed backstory will litter this battlefield.
I'm fairly certain there were at least 3 different ways Sean could've won with the cards in his hand., I get it, you don't want to end the game in 5 minutes...but why not have a round 2, and do best 2/3 like a standard tournament?
Dear Felicia, I know that you're insanely busy with a ton of great projects right now, like this new Magic show, co-optitude, the G&S Vlogs channel, tabletop, The Guild Season 7, and Dr. Horrible 2: Penny Rises. But, with the utmost respect for your amazing work and your hectic schedule, when is the Flog coming back???
Still really love the editing and Felicia I love the colour you've put in your hair. I think maybe at the beginning there should be a little note explaining that the rules are more fully explained in earlier episodes, so that new viewers (who don't know Magic) know to go back and check those out first.
That would be hilarious. And I hope they both get some sort of counter control blue decks. Yes I know the game could be slow and boring but any magic player knows with Ryan and Sean's personalities it becomes a match of pure silliness.
I love all the opinions on here lol. Let me remind you whatever you think either person did wrong....they had fun, Ive been with magic since alpha and that's how the game started and sadly a lot of places have got away from the fun factor
Can we stop worrying about whether someone "cheated" or not? This isn't a DCI sanctioned event. It is casual kitchen table Magic. The point is to drum up interest in a cool game, not to be rule lawyers. If you want to see top tier competitive play then watch the Pro Tour videos on MTG's channel.
Every game I ever played of M:tG as a kid went like this... and I was Felicia. Just murdered horribly. I got so used to it, I made a green deck stacked with +life cards just so I could prolong the game and make my opponent (who would win anyway) twist in the wind.
18:23 Felicia Day "I'd like to be on t..." shortly after: "Just finish me off please." And the response is "I'm trying so hard. I'm doing my hardest." I came here to see a game of Magic: The Gathering, and what I got were innuendos that would make Mad Moxxi squeal. My... dirty... mind... Sorry guys. EDIT: My god, it get's even worse after that... Argh, I gotta go to bed. Felicia, if a Borderlands Movie is made, you HAVE to be Mad Moxxi. Even if that would mean to have that many Exes.
Hilariously entertaining match! I really liked their banter with Sean as funny as always. Felicia is great too. I loved her little back stories and impressions of her minotaurs
This was great fun, I would love to see a multiplayer spellslingers special, Day9, the Day Siblings and Wil Wheaton battling it out with the new commander precons.
as it was suggested in the comments of earlier spellslingers episodes, I'd have preferred Felicia playing some Boros human weenie stuff and day9 playing mono blue control - sadly that didnt happen but if there's ever going to be a rematch that's what i'm expecting :)
yes he did he tapped the mountain for 1 red then tapped voyaging satyr to untap the mountain and tap it again for a second red then the 2 forests for the final 2 colourless
1KevinsFamousChili1 I'm pretty sure it was still done wrong. To play the Minotaur he would of had to tap two mountain and two colourless at the same time. That's how it works from what I have played even with untapping effects. When you tap a land it doesn't add it to your mana pool unless stated which is a completely different thing anyway.
Really because from what I have played that's how it works unless what I was taught was completely wrong which might be the case. I'm simply saying what I have come across while playing.
nuke2099 Sorry for being so dismissive, didn't mean it. The move was indeed legal, as 1KevinsFamousChili1 described. When you tap a land it adds mana to your mana pool. It's original text was "(tap) add to your mana pool"
ha are you talking about day9? Watch his show about starcraft. Makes me chuckle you are calling him magic guy. This is basically a sideshow for his main attraction.
a lot of sexual tension here! tapping everywhere, Felicia asking Sean to finish her off. making her explode. Sean using his monstrosity to win so hard?! I love it fun show
1:052:124:057:388:48 Seriously how are these little scenes done from a filmmaker's perspective? They're obviously not filmed in the context/moment that they are edited in so how do they seem so natural and "in the moment"?
Tantalus From the bloopers it appears they play the match, then they ask the questions, in 4:05's case something like "what do you think about the voyaing satyr" or something, then they edit in the answer as if they are giving their thought in real time.
You guys need to play more than one game to showcase each deck. As is the nature of the game, some people will just draw poorly - Jesse being the prime example. How about a follow up round on another vid which is just straight up gameplay without the mid game interviews. Maybe in a video format similar the MTG tournament casts and skip all the mid-game interviews and explanations of what is occuring during the game. Easy to produce, you get some more views, and we get more content. We all win. :)
The wheel sucks. The decks should be tailored to the players. Theme the decks to the guests. That alone would inject a lot of comedy into the show. If anything the guest would be slightly insulted about how you themed the deck around them. You could still randomize the deck for Sean Plott or make a tough to beat Plott deck to see how the guest stacks up against it. Can the Dodger deck beat Sean Plott? Can the Will "Crusher" Wheaton deck stop the Plott deck?
I can see it two ways. First: it is kind of a pun/combination on the phrase "Er, go." Er being linguistic filler while she is trying to decide if she wants to pass the turn, then saying go to mean she passes the turn to Sean. Second: Ergo means therefore. She is at the end of her turn, usually stating the fact that she has no more she can do this turn, therefore[ergo]...(Implying "I pass the turn to you" with gesture)
Heh - I think Felicia picked up the 'ergo' segue in a match with Jesse Cox at the Comic-Con offsite. As Blake Corcoran I think it does make sense in a kinda weird way. In essence it's like... [In my turn I just did this] therefore/ergo [In your turn you're gonna do that] e.g., "Felicia's gonna put down an undead Minotaur" [ergo] "Sean's going to cast lightning strike"
I had to wake up at 4am to tape this show but it turned out pretty good! Fun playing Magic with Sean!!
hellow felicia winter we have
Fantastic. :)
Charlie!!
I stopped playing MTG. Sold the cards when they actually had a value. No one wants to play anymore except the hard core. Physical cards are a dying breed.
Hey...Felicia...good to see U....:)
4:55
"I don't know how I'm supposed to win against this guy"
"You're black murder him!
This, children, is why context should always be considered.
lol
you HAVE black, murder him.
Well its your turn so draw a murder!
Eklypze.Z30 not in standard
Not funny and no need for context to be considered.
You just pushed your own racist issues onto this video where it is not placed nor makes any sense.
Lastly. Grow up and stop pushing your own racist issues.
Felecia's voice cracking is probably the most adorable thing I've heard all day. XD
I love how hard she's trying to keep it family friendly.
Felicia: "I like to be on t...you know stay up there"
Felicia: "Just finish me off please..." ::Opens eyes wide and smirks::
The long-awaited showdown has arrived: It's Day9TV VS. Felicia Day in a Magic: The Gathering battle for the centuries.
Here's some trivia: Which color deck does Felicia absolutely detest?
White, because she hates the Douche frat boys...and she's totally wrong...unless you look at the Veteran Bodyguard...and then she's totally right.
White. :D
That would be white. I believe she thought white were a "bunch of douche bags" and no I totally didn't just know that off the top of my head.
That would be weird and obsessive.
Stop judging me.
Now I want to see Wil and then Totalbiscuit and I'm more then pleased.^^
P. S. Gruul rule
Was that the lighting, or was Felicia Day sporting some punky green stripes there?
A total tell for what deck you prefer?
"you're black, murder him!"
man, that's just asking to be quote-mined ^^
"I like to be on top." "Just finish me off, please."
"I'm trying. I'm trying so hard."
If these two don't get married I don't wanna live on this cruel planet anymore.
Haha, I lol'd XD
If I'm not mistaken, I don't think she's into the male gender.
Or is she? :O @Metasyn
@Metasyn is she pregnant??
@Metasyn they're divorced
There were two Undead Minotaurs, then I play Polymerization, to create the Minotaur Abomination.
Jesse M your move Moto!
If you two every suffer an unfortunate accident, we'll have to stitch you back together and raise you as the undead abomination: FeliciaDay[9]
(it may take more than 8 tries)
Before this episode was shot, someone from Wizards handed Felicia Day a script that had two words written on it: "Devotion" and "Mechanic"
I love how since this is a Geek & Sundry show, Day[9] essentially spends the whole episode ragging on and insulting his boss.
"What would you call a party of Minotaurs?"
I'm not sure but I'll bet they'll hoof a good time!
...and that's no bull!
Nick Jewell a pack of minotaurs in MANYTAURS
Seriously, Cow did you come up with that?
The last time I played MtG was probably 99' and I lived in a small town with little to no other players so I fell out of it very quickly but now with the interwebs being the way they are I can just play online against randoms :P
I understand the game but I'm not very good at setting up or even reading plays, this video series is very helpful at giving info and just basic strategy :D
with Magic Duels being out along with me finding this series I'm happy to say I'm getting back into it and really enjoying myself lol. So I'd like to thank you for giving Magic such a positive look and helping me rekindle my joy for it!

Derpston Hale
It is kinda funny, the online game sucked me in and then went down constantly for the first three days and got me missing it so much I ordered an Origins booster box so I can try and start playing irl again seeing as I don't live in a bush town anymore haha.
So nice of Sean to not kill Felicia at 15:07 by playing that hasted minotaur for 4 damage.
I love what you guys are doing for MTG. It really helps inspire my channel to keep doing what we do :)
The editors have lots of fun with those text boxes
I'd love to see multiple games between players to show more of the deck, since a bad draw can make for a quick relatively boring game. Also seems a shame to go through all the trouble with the studio for one game (unless you recorded all of them in a few sessions, which would make more sense actually)
agreed, or maybe play 3 games and show the best one.
So happy I found this!! Finally MTG games with visual quality! Spellslingers 5 episodes marathon, here I go!
And at 6:55, the Dr, Hannah Strategy is put in play. (See the Last Night on Earth episode of Table Top if you don't know the reference.) Detailed backstory will litter this battlefield.
Yes!!!
I'm fairly certain there were at least 3 different ways Sean could've won with the cards in his hand., I get it, you don't want to end the game in 5 minutes...but why not have a round 2, and do best 2/3 like a standard tournament?
"Just finish me off, please."
"I'm trying, I'm trying so hard."
and that's why context is important...
The best episode so far! The dynamic of the duo felt much more vivid than interaction seen in previous episodes. Sean witty as always!
The editing comments on the graphics in this episode are my favourite.
Best line of the whole episode... "Just finish me off please"
Dear Felicia,
I know that you're insanely busy with a ton of great projects right now, like this new Magic show, co-optitude, the G&S Vlogs channel, tabletop, The Guild Season 7, and Dr. Horrible 2: Penny Rises. But, with the utmost respect for your amazing work and your hectic schedule, when is the Flog coming back???
I really like how this show provides explanations for the game.
LOL best part of the episode
Felicia,*immensely confused*: "what're you doing with my hand!?"
Sean, *confidently shouting into camera*: "MIND GAMES!"
Still really love the editing and Felicia I love the colour you've put in your hair. I think maybe at the beginning there should be a little note explaining that the rules are more fully explained in earlier episodes, so that new viewers (who don't know Magic) know to go back and check those out first.
"Don't pump your Rootwalla, it's rude in public." XD Offfff course, Felicia ;)
AWESOME! Been waiting for this match up. To all at Geek and Sundry, Thanks for the work you put in to all your videos. They are great :)
Now I really want to see Sean take on Ryon Day. I could see it being a trash talk extraordinaire!
That would be hilarious. And I hope they both get some sort of counter control blue decks. Yes I know the game could be slow and boring but any magic player knows with Ryan and Sean's personalities it becomes a match of pure silliness.
18:28 - "Just finish me off please!"
- "I'm trying, I'm trying so hard."
So I'm not the only one. Yay!
Can we get an episode featuring a two headed giant match?
really looking forward to Grant Imahara's showing next episode! keep getting great guests!
"Don't pump your rootwalla! that's rude in public"
Referencing the dreadnought!!! Epic and one of my favorite cards from the past!!!
18:28 The second she said it, she realized...
yea her eyes almost flew out of her head lol, and his response was funny too xD im im trying so hard. Its a good day indeed :P
She's so naughty. :D
"You're playing black, murder him!" made me laugh alot.
I literally gasped as soon as Felicia drew Sea God's Revenge xD
I enjoyed watching Sean using that red-green deck. I love aggro decks!
I love all the opinions on here lol. Let me remind you whatever you think either person did wrong....they had fun, Ive been with magic since alpha and that's how the game started and sadly a lot of places have got away from the fun factor
There was an alpha of Magic? CCG's don't usually have testing periods for the masses.
alpha and beta
Just started playing and learning little by little, this video was funny, and actually helped me a lot! thanks! Now to go watch the others...
Felicia: "Could you finish me off?"
"I'm trying my hardest."
This show is great! Great production and cast! Give it a second season!
Definitely "a maze of minotaurs," because it's both alliteration and a reference to the greek myth (which also seems to work with this deck).
wow, Felicia Day, what a cutie!
She looks like Mr.Burns
Every game I ever played of M:tG as a kid went like this... and I was Felicia. Just murdered horribly. I got so used to it, I made a green deck stacked with +life cards just so I could prolong the game and make my opponent (who would win anyway) twist in the wind.
Here's a suggestion. Combine tabletop and spell slingers for one episode and cover the new commander decks in a four player game!
Scopesightzx *cough* *cough* game knights *cough* *cough*
Thats why its always good practice to cut your opponents deck prior to first draw.
This was a fun episode!
"It's your turn so draw a murder!"
I would have cried if she drew murder.
I loved when she said ' I got another color too !! " .. Awesome :)
Really great production. Happy to see that gaming community can actually make something more then screaming and talking nonsense into a webcam.
thank you spellslingers and geek and sundry for helping me discover magic and d&d
A party of minotaurs? I'm gonna go with a cow wow.
I was half-expecting Felicia to be playing mono red and dressed in her Chandra outfit! Anyway, thanks for the show.
18:23 Felicia Day "I'd like to be on t..."
shortly after: "Just finish me off please."
And the response is "I'm trying so hard. I'm doing my hardest."
I came here to see a game of Magic: The Gathering, and what I got were innuendos that would make Mad Moxxi squeal.
My... dirty... mind...
Sorry guys.
EDIT:
My god, it get's even worse after that...
Where are the probes and pylons , where is the stalker ? This isn't starcraft !
It's a TvZ, so you won't see those.
They have to play a two-headed giant game for the next season!
If this was how the Pro tour was played.
Blue/Black is my favorite! Love the control. Though a Black/Red vampire deck is a close second...
The lady is super cute
This was great fun, I would love to see a multiplayer spellslingers special, Day9, the Day Siblings and Wil Wheaton battling it out with the new commander precons.
A party of Minotaur's is known as a Minotour.
I turned off ad-block for this series. I love this show. Keep it up!
I think we need to see Felicia Day play with Green Elves deck. Thank you.
as it was suggested in the comments of earlier spellslingers episodes, I'd have preferred Felicia playing some Boros human weenie stuff and day9 playing mono blue control - sadly that didnt happen but if there's ever going to be a rematch that's what i'm expecting :)
I know nothing of Magic:TG. But when Felicia says she always play with that kind of deck, yeah, we need to see that.
i've never played M:TG before, and this is the first video i'm watching out of this channel...but ill be honest, im thoroughly entertained :D
Such a fun game!! It's totally worth playing!!
Its incredibly addicting it pretty much a drug but I highly recommend it
They didnt show her the game mat with the Felicia angel ;c
Really love watching this show, thanks for doing it.
OH MY GEURD!!! CHARLIE!! :)
"no! I don't like it when you're happy.", that's precious.
DON'T PUMP YOUR ROOTWALLA, THAT'S RUDE IN PUBLIC LOLOLOL
Does it bother anyone else that either the wheel isn't perfectly circular or it spins off center?
I glad I stumbled upon this. I had 0 clue Day9 played Magic. Glad to find someone else like me who plays Magic and StarCraft 2.
the borderland Minotaur was not soposed to be summoned because he didnt have enough land 4:42
yes he did he tapped the mountain for 1 red then tapped voyaging satyr to untap the mountain and tap it again for a second red then the 2 forests for the final 2 colourless
1KevinsFamousChili1
I'm pretty sure it was still done wrong. To play the Minotaur he would of had to tap two mountain and two colourless at the same time. That's how it works from what I have played even with untapping effects. When you tap a land it doesn't add it to your mana pool unless stated which is a completely different thing anyway.
nuke2099 You fail
Really because from what I have played that's how it works unless what I was taught was completely wrong which might be the case. I'm simply saying what I have come across while playing.
nuke2099 Sorry for being so dismissive, didn't mean it.
The move was indeed legal, as 1KevinsFamousChili1 described. When you tap a land it adds mana to your mana pool. It's original text was "(tap) add to your mana pool"
I like this guy. He's very entertaining. More entertaining the most of these Geek & Sundry people. He should do more shows. Good job, magic guy!
ha are you talking about day9? Watch his show about starcraft. Makes me chuckle you are calling him magic guy. This is basically a sideshow for his main attraction.
a lot of sexual tension here! tapping everywhere, Felicia asking Sean to finish her off. making her explode. Sean using his monstrosity to win so hard?! I love it fun show
This was hilarious but the improper use of what I think was the word, "ergo" was driving me nuts. ♥
Right? Go ahead bro. Therefor.
1:05 2:12 4:05 7:38 8:48
Seriously how are these little scenes done from a filmmaker's perspective? They're obviously not filmed in the context/moment that they are edited in so how do they seem so natural and "in the moment"?
Tantalus From the bloopers it appears they play the match, then they ask the questions, in 4:05's case something like "what do you think about the voyaing satyr" or something, then they edit in the answer as if they are giving their thought in real time.
+Tantalus Same as how they do it on "reality" tv shows.
Yes! Been looking forward to her and Day[9] stacking up.
I think you need to play at least 2 rounds for an episode. =)
That moment before Felicia says, "I like to be on top" before stopping herself. That was amazing.
This is like a reality show for magic :/
New to this channel due to loving magic.. Then realise this channel is a wee goldmine. This man from from scotland approves all :) more pl0x
You guys need to play more than one game to showcase each deck. As is the nature of the game, some people will just draw poorly - Jesse being the prime example. How about a follow up round on another vid which is just straight up gameplay without the mid game interviews. Easy to produce, you get some more views, and we get more content. We all win. :)
Man, playing Magic with Felicia seems like it would be a blast!
Also, a group of minotaurs should be known as an udder travesty.
Felicia looks like a hamster when she smiles lol
0:18 You're fucking lying, how is that a hamster?
This chick is whiney and annoying
Sean is surprisingly comedic with his PG level jokes. Felicia was throwing double entendres the entire time and Sean was keeping it cool.
Devotion... choose a multi color deck. Wha?
Felicia: "just finish me off"
Day9: "I'm trying"
:D my mind is just swimming in the gutter today
The wheel sucks. The decks should be tailored to the players. Theme the decks to the guests. That alone would inject a lot of comedy into the show. If anything the guest would be slightly insulted about how you themed the deck around them.
You could still randomize the deck for Sean Plott or make a tough to beat Plott deck to see how the guest stacks up against it. Can the Dodger deck beat Sean Plott? Can the Will "Crusher" Wheaton deck stop the Plott deck?
Forcing players to play out of their element is interesting to watch, for me at least. Theme decks would be pretty good though.
MORE EPISODES FASTER IT'S SUCH A GOOD SHOW THUMPS UP
really not understanding the "ergo" thing. does she know what that actually means?
It's a latin word meaning "therefore".
Like in "You go down to 0 life points, ergo, I win."
I can see it two ways. First: it is kind of a pun/combination on the phrase "Er, go." Er being linguistic filler while she is trying to decide if she wants to pass the turn, then saying go to mean she passes the turn to Sean. Second: Ergo means therefore. She is at the end of her turn, usually stating the fact that she has no more she can do this turn, therefore[ergo]...(Implying "I pass the turn to you" with gesture)
i know what means. thats why it doesnt make sense to me why she is using it like that.
Except that I think she's just saying "Your go" very hasty.
Heh - I think Felicia picked up the 'ergo' segue in a match with Jesse Cox at the Comic-Con offsite. As Blake Corcoran I think it does make sense in a kinda weird way. In essence it's like...
[In my turn I just did this] therefore/ergo [In your turn you're gonna do that]
e.g., "Felicia's gonna put down an undead Minotaur" [ergo] "Sean's going to cast lightning strike"
Felicia getting so attached to her creatures is so funny as i'm watching this
day v. day
Well played, well played...
That was a very well articulated intro Sean.
I feel like the decks were rigged at some point just so the video could be lobger o.O idk though
not rigged, but when she bounced his things he didn't play his haste monster to swing for the win, so kinda?
Beowulf Crapser lol? She killed it by blocking with her 2/1 @ 7:30.
I think they'd prefer the term "choreographed" 😄
They should do a 2 Headed Giant game with Felicia & Ryon vs Day[9] & Michele Boyd!
It makes me cringe so bad when people place down their cards by pushing their thumb down on it so it bends and slaps onto the table.
+Red Jester Does riffle shuffling give you a panic attack?
