The New HIACE

The authorities in USA will not let's this car to come to America, because it's will collapse their cars factories. Toyota cars are quality and easier to handle them.
We're a large importer from Japan. We deal with customs and EPA every day clearing our units for import. There are many EPA rules in the way that make it impossible to bring them in to the US:( I agree with everyone here too. Bring the diesel into the US! Toyota can sell their design to the other places and not have the risk of the EPA coming up with a new diesel rule that Toyota would regret.
The gas version has the same engine as the Tacoma in the USA but there’s another obstacle that prevents it from the USA and that’s the safety regulations.
It’s just engineering. Build it to Ca standards and sell tons of them in 50 states.
I only believe the word "reliable" when Toyota says it.

It's true. I look at all the common rail and turbo diesels of today and only the Japanese are reliable. I'm an unbiased buyer and like the new ranger very much but it's v6 turbo diesel is from the sports cars and had a span of reliability issues. Toyota, Isuzu, Mitsubishi keep to a market that just wants a reliable workhorse. We used to have a 3.0 v6 4x2 club cab colt, did about a hundred thousand kms on it strong. Offroading, very long distance traveling, towing a trailer from bots to Zambia, and loading it up. Then got a 3.2 double cab 4x4 2009 Triton when it came out and boy was that a machine. It was triumphant over every other bakkie in every thing. Load carrying, towing, speed, handling, take off. Did 150 000kms on it and 50 thousand of them was with towing a trailer on bad roads. Now we're running a 2.4 4x2 gd6. Got 110 000 kms on it. 20 thousand kms has been to the mines and bad roads. I have seen Isuzus w/over 300 000 kms on them going strong. The Japanese, they are the best. I only buy Japanese cars as far as work and bakkies/utes/trucks are concerned.

@@Luciano-mx7sm Mazda hey is not a bad car at all. The only problem with the bt50 was it used the 3.2 ranger engine which was a bit troublesome. And I can't really speak for them because they don't make their own bakkies. They always base them off another brand (Ford then, now Isuzu) so if I speak about Ford ranger then it applies to Mazda. If I speak about the current isuzu then it applies to the current Mazda you see. So I haven't really heard much about Mazda or said much about it (Keep in mind I'm talking exclusively about bakkies)

@@shigetonia Hi There tonoton, Toyo could make it a priority to bring them in but I should have said that Mayberry Mini Trucks cannot import them. Toyota could enter the mine field with accrediting the engine and making it comply with the many US requirements but they have decided that the payoff is not worth the effort to qualify and then to keep up with the new EPA regulations as they become introduced from that point on...

Many farmers here use Kei truck from Japan for their farming and using it in there peach and cherry farm. You can put 200kg of load in box and they are street legal and they are around 50mpg( Canadian gallon). Cheers

@John Doe well.. kinda rare to get a new bus, most of the busses you get in guyana are used, unless the buyer is rich enough to get a brand new factory made hiace.
The reason they don't sell in the US is because they're only produced in right side driver seats (non road legal in right side driving countries)

they messed up when they changed the window design, you can barely have any fresh air when the van is full and the people sitting at the windows are stingy when it comes to opening them... some background info, we use these vans for public transport in Kenya, mostly Nairobi. I can tell you for a fact, i prefer the older window designs which were wide and more people could access them

Is this the Toyota van with the "flat" or sideways engine UNDER the floor and behind (under) the driver??? I've heard about that design and how efficient it is, and how that super-low center-of-gravity makes it handle MUCH better and SAFER than the "typical" van.

Here in Indonesia it's US$42k for the Hiace premio (this one) and US$36k for the Hiace commuter (last gen, last gen and current gen is sold at the same time.)
Still not cheap for a van but it's the biggest for it's price and competes with a more expensive minibus in seating capacity, it's popular with travel agencies.
@John Doe this wouldn't sell well in the US imo, Toyota even stopped selling the Hilux in the US and made a different version with a V6 gasoline engine (Tacoma) because people complained that it's too slow
Americans love fast fuel hogging gasoline cars with automatic transmissions which is the exact opposite of what this van is, it only makes 101hp for the base and 154hp for the top of the line model, and both come with a 5 speed or 6 speed manual only.
