The USB port on the front of the X-Plus printer can read only so it can not be used to connect the Raspberry Pi. However, hope is not lost! There is a way to connect directly to the motherboard using a TTL serial USB cable.
How to connect the TTL cable to the Qidi motherboard:
Green cable goes to Rx pin
White cable goes to Tx pin
Black cable goes to Gnd pin

Great tip thanks for taking the time to do the video. I am considering the X-Plus so good to know I can use octoprint with it.

Can you do the same thing with a CNC machine to control it remotely?

Do you think you can wire the printer to turn ON without pushing the front button?

Is it possible to see the printing status on the main printer screen while printing something launched by octoprint?

The exact model I originally purchased has been unavailable for quite sometime. In my experience any that say Raspberry Pi compatible will work just fine!

What are able to do from a workflow perspective once you have the Pi connected? Guessing you are installing Octoprint on the Pi. Can you still use the printer’s control panel?

Octoprint with Pi Camera for remote management. Yes, all of the original functionality remains and either can be used at anytime. I'll post a video of my workflow soon. Thanks for the comment!

Good info thank you but.... Was hoping you were going to talk more about the workflow, not just how to connect the pi.

Sure! What would you like to know?

@@pluggedin3d266 I was hoping that you were going to go over the commands to "talk" to the printer. I know that they are not all standard marlin gcode. Was also hoping you would discuss how best to setup the pi to work best with qidi. Qidi is none standard and has a tendency to not do well with outside equipment.

@@christopherlarime4095 The stock OctoPrint works well. It will suggest to add the Fix CBD Firmware Plugin upon first connection. Since doing this I have not had any issues.

Anyone tested that with an i Mate printer?
